1.
Oddly enough we have converted a couple of guitarists into tidy bass players over my 6 years in the job, but it's a rare thing. Nice idea though. I'll think of a way to badge it and give it a go!
Just ask them if they want to be guitarists... or whether they want to play an instrument that will let them pitch up with any band of any kind and know there is room to join in...
2. I play with the Northampton Music & Performing Arts Trust (a series of centres run at school premises across the county) on a saturday morning. There are tons of guitarists but still not enough bassists. The teachers (not me, I attend to play as my kids are members) are more than happy to provide multiple bass arrangements for single pieces to make sure there is something for every ability. Maybe bass just isn't cool enough for teenagers! There are loads of guitarists, saxophonists, drummers, pianists, brass and woodwind players, but not bassists. Still - on the plus side, it means I get to play as much as I want!
3. Oh man! Wish I had the funds. I love my Consat.
4. And if you and not ready to walk yet, throwing in some Root-Octave or Root-5th works well enough. Treat the bass as the drums. Play on the kick drum and snare with R & octave
5. I have a kitchen scale that goes up to 10kg so I use that. FWIW I have never ever ever had a shop be anywhere near accurate on a quoted weight.
6. These days Izzy Hale does a better impression of Seb Bach than Seb does https://www.youtube....h?v=_CX3XxfXgLs
7. Allianz. I've used their other policies and they've paid out when I need them.
8. Enjoy the space. And learn to walk. And rip off Jack Bruce for a start
9. Actually this thread is making me doubt selling it. I have a rehearsal tomorrow - I might take the Urge instead and see what happens.
10.
I saw yours on sale. GLWTS. Can you get real P bass sound?
I'm only selling because I'm playing 5 strings now. If Fender did a 5 string Urge I'd be all over it! The P bass tone (with the EQ flat) is a little more trebly than on a regular P - but actually quite like a regular P with a Seymour Quarter Pounder in it. I'm guessing that is because the pickup is a bit closer to the bridge on the Urge2. But the tone is all there, just drop the treble off a bit and you are back where you should be. It's quite light too. I have no idea why Fender don't put super light tuners on everything these days.
11.
Again - not sure what they add. Yes Bono is a good investor but that's not the same as steering company direction
More likely that Bono has access to a very expensive and competent financial analyst and listens to him about where to put his money.
12. I have one and I love it. Very versatile bass indeed.
13. All fitted and over 1/2 lb weight loss on the bass! Lovely!
14. No Allen key provided I do have a shitload of them so I'll have go through my collection. Thank you!
15. Just had a set of Ultra Lites delivered to go on my Sandberg. I have to reverse one of them but there are no instructions. Before I just disassemble the entire thing, can anyone give me any pointers? Ta!
16. It's lovely! I do have a set of Hipshot Ultralight tuners coming for it though as it's a tiny bit heavy. I took a tuner off to weigh it and then compared with Hipshot and it will save me just over 1/2 lb in total. That's a hell of a lot to save - especially when it's on the end of the neck! They should be here tomorrow. I'll need to dirty them up a bit!
17. I love it! How are you powering it?
18.
Edit: Also have a mini headstock tuner which means I don't need a tuner pedal!
What headstock tuner you using? I've had 2 Snarks and they worked well but broke easy!
19. I found some D'Addario NIckels hiding in the back of a drawer. I've always found D'addarios to be especially good on the B string. And cor blimey it is sounding epic!! This afternoon I'll have a chance to take the bass into the garden for some natural light photos, so you'll have to wait until then!
20. I'm a compression junkie. I love it! But I have to say that to beat the Marshall ED-1 you have to spend a lot of money. It's cheap and cheerful and sounds brilliant on bass. IMHO it's only at Keeley 4-knob money (£220 ish) that you start to get close to it. The MXR Bass Compressor doesn't get anywhere near it. That being said I really want to try a Jo Meek FloorQ!
21. In real life it's not as bright and the differences in the blue / green are not as obvious. I liked the photos, but I love it even more in real life. My wife is laughing her arse off at the entire concept of relics. She thinks it's just been in a shed for years. And she's offered me a cup of artificially aged coffee. And would I like a fresh lunch or aged.
