Slightly different - but my Yamaha Attitude 3 (now sold) was everything I wanted in a bass - wonderful thick grindy tone. Even the slightly heavy weight of the beast was do-able (just) But my hands are just too small for that monster neck. I kept playing it for a few months thinking I'd get used to it but all I got was tendon issues. I was, and still am absolutely gutted about it. I traded it on here for a Fender Stu Hamm Urge 2 and that is a lovely bass with a brilliant neck and it sounds superb - it's a keeper without a doubt. But it's not the Attitude sound. At some point I'll have to spec out a Warmoth build and get as close as I can to it, but with a neck I can cope with.

Russ just bought my Boss VE-20 Vocal processor. VERY prompt payment - he turned up at my door 24 hours before I expected him to!! Great bloke, very nice to meet him! (He wouldn't sing in my lounge though - so I had to be the one looking like a wally! )

Genuine stereo with different strings going different directions is sh*t. Unless you are Michael Manring or Victor Wooten, both of whom have done it. Then there are 2 output basses like Ricky's, some alembics and the Yamaha Attitude. These are not stereo basses - these are for splitting the signal to apply FX to different parts. So on the Attitude (as I'm familiar with them) the big chunky neck pickup gets EQ'd for super deep sounds and into 1 amp.... and the Precision pickup gets a more middy and trebly sound and all the distortion you want into a separate amp. Both signals are run at the same time, so no matter what FX you load onto the mids and highs the lows always stay super deep and clear. That signal splitting routine is done an awful lot even if a bass only has 1 output. It can be done on a pedal board / in a rack as well (but with no individual control of pickup volume without adding vol pedals etc). This is in no way a gimmick and sounds absolutely massive to the point where every band I've been in with a rig like that has decided against the continuing employment of the rhythm guitarist!

Don't know how to describe it really - it's not as slinky as my thin necked Marleaux, but it's more comfy than 5 string Fenders and Warwicks I've had, and thinner than the 5 string Stingray too. I've got quite small hands and unlike the Fenders etc I've mentioned I find the ABZ5 very comfy.

Genz Shuttle 9.2 or Streamliner 900 depending on your taste. I have both because I'm greedy. Both awesome with their own character.

Any update? I've been watching this with interest.

Once I've decided an amp is loud enough and sounds how I want it to sound I don't care about the numbers in the marketing blurb. I had a RH750 and sold it. Plenty loud enough but wasn't the sound I was looking for. Now I'm Genz powered and am very happy. Still plenty loud enough and it has the sound I wanted. I'd love one of those much lower wattage (ahem) Mesa Prodigy things but they are about £1000 overpriced so it won't be happening.

To be fair to Elixir - they did announce an imminent 45% price increase last year, with plenty of warning. There were threads on here about it, and it was on Stringbusters / Strings Direct websites too - and in their email marketing. I don't use their strings, but a couple of mates do so they just bought as many as they could stretch to before the price rise. Oh - and they are often way cheaper on Amazon. Just have to keep looking! I used a One-Spot for years until I used the same unit to power pedals infront of the amp and in the loop at the same time. Then I got bad hum. I used 2 One-Spots for a while after that. But eventually I bit the bullet and use a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2. It's brilliant and dead quiet. And you can still chain from the outputs as long as you don't exceed the current draw. So for example I have my TC tuner and my Wah chained as the total draw is under 100mA. I would have bought the Mondo if it had been available though! It wasn't out at the time.
