1. PB62-58. 1993-94 build Selling my CIJ Fender PB62-58 I bought it in from Japan about 18 months ago as I always fancied a P bass, but wanted a neck that was a bit slimmer than a US Standard. It's not quite as slim as a Jazz neck, but it's not far off. Now I'm off-loading all my 4 strings as I'm really just a 5 string player. The Photo is from the Japanese dealer so I'll take some more this evening MODIFICATION: The stock pickup was lacking, so it now has a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in it. I don't think I have the original one anymore, but if I find it you can have it. It's in great condition with 1 exception - the tone knob diamond pattern grip is a bit scratched up - almost like at some point some eijit had gripped it hard with pliers! Other than that it's tip top and is strung with Chromes that have nicely bedded in. It's only been 'gigged' with an Orchestra. It's only got a soft bag so I'd prefer collection / meet up. The bass is in Northants near J16 on the M1. Not really looking for trades as I'm culling the herd and hoping to end up with a pair of Marleaux 5 strings. ta
2. I've been thinking more about this and I'm going to do the same. I'm planning to end up with a pair of Marleaux 5 strings. So my 4 strings and my Dingwall ABZ5 will be going. It will be a bit odd, but the Marleaux gets all my attention anyway. The others just sit there and look pretty!
3. For sale at £1500 Drop to £1400 The Dingwall is in excellent condition and I think I might have a spare set of strings to go with it. I don't have a case or bag so any deal will have to be in person. The ABZ5 has the usual specs - fan frets, 37inch scale on the B to a 34 scale on G. 4 way pickup selector, volume and tone. Passive. Nice and light. It's in natural with a maple board (maple boards are now an expensive option on a new one, for some reason - I thought Canada was covered in Maple trees!). Couple of pics: No Trade offers please. Alas I find myself needing the money for non-bass expenses. I've only 'gigged' it with an Orchestra and that legendary low B has got some great comments! I'm in Northants, a couple of miles off J16 on the M1 ta SOLD & GONE
4.
I've played a Fodera in a pub band many times. Most people wouldn't know one if it upped and slapped them in the face. Even a lot of everyday bass players wouldn't notice one from my experience. I'm currently gigging a, very, expensive Ritter. Apart from one guitarist asking what it was no-one has mentioned it so far. I used to gig a £3.5K MTD - at one gig a nice guy came up at the interval and told me what great basses the US Standard Fenders were but that I I couldn't afford one then the Mexican ones were pretty good. Not sure what he thought the MTD was but he obviously assumed it was worth less than a Mex Fender
ha ha ha!!! That's excellent!
5. Pub gig - 20 max, and that depends on the song lengths. Proper function band... that's different. If you are playing from 7pm to midnight you'll need about 60 and some spares that people request, and so you can adjust the set as you see how the punters react.
6. Listen to more Jack Bruce! Get busier - runs that fit, or root - octave to match Kick drum and snare etc. Don't be afraid to move up the range a bit too.
7.
is a pre amp simply just an equaliser? ... feel stupid for having to ask but y'know ,...
It can be - but it can also be gain / drive etc. Effectively all of your amp except the power section. If every venue had a nice big PA, I'd be happy to never carry an amp again!!
8. I have a VT Bass DI in the bag. Most of the time it is there for emergency use if my amp goes down, so I can plug straight into the PA and get a useable sound. Sometimes the PA guy will prefer to take a signal from it rather than from the amp, or mics.

10.
Thats how those guitar pro things work I beleive but there is no need to detune the guitar as its preshaped into a major bar chord, some people just like a quick result, unfortunately those cheats lead to an almost impossible transition to actually playing.
It's not always a cheat to alter tuning - as long as you still know where the notes are. Devin Townsend always tunes to an Open Major chord as it allows access to voicing that would be impossible on regular tuning because of stretch length. But he still knows every note he's playing! (and bloody hell he's good!)
11.
Joining an orchestra is a brilliant way of pushing sight readings skills and after a while the sight reading becomes invisible but also so does the learning of scales and connection ...thats when it becomes really great to put that into ones own music.
I got press-ganged! I dropped my daughter off and the teacher said he knew I played bass, so I should get my arse inside and join in. I used a spare bass, was given sheet music which I hastily scribbled the note names on... and tried to play very quietly. That was 18 months ago, and I'm still going every Saturday. My daughter (on clarinet) reads music very well indeed and keeps the pressure on!
12. I wish I had started earlier with theory. Since joining my daughter's school orchestra I've been thrown in the deep end - given sheet music and expected to play it immediately. I've been blagging it when there are chord charts above it the bars, but often there aren't any. So I bought Stuart Clayton's 'Reading Music' series of books and started from scratch. Only had them about 6 weeks and often can only fit in an hour per week study, but it has transformed my performance and enjoyment of the orchestra group - and last Saturday I managed to sight read something properly for the first time in about 25 years of playing bass! It's opened up so much music, and lets me join in with almost anything where a full piano score is available. I'm a long way off being able to sight read fully and confidently but I am very pleased I took the plunge!
13. Plenty of interest, but no one has any money. It's on ebay for 1 last time. If it doesn't sell then it's going under the bed. I'm planning on extending the house, but before the bank will lend me the money on the mortgage I need all the plans & permissions doing first.
14. Loads of the EVH (also owned by Fender) kit is being made in Mexico now too. They tried building the 5150 iii 50W guitar amp in China but the QC sucked, so they moved it to Mexico and it's all been awesome ever since. I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well.
15. What are people using? I'm sure I've got plenty of life left in mine yet, but I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with different valves in the preamp?
16. MicroPOG Awesome thing. Best tracking of any octave pedal, up or down.
17. Cool! I shall look forward to that!
18. It's been out for a couple of years. Not a new product at all. At the time the other app stores were nothing compared to Apple. I've had more of a play now - the mods and verbs are amazing. Some of the drives are very good, and the octave fx track better than the pedals they were based on. Very happy with it!
19. Mine has arrived. So far I've been making silly noises with the DOD Gonkulator model! Good bit of kit
20. I ordered mine from Amazon, but I must have had one of the last in stock as it's already dispatched. I'll review when it gets here
21. I've just ordered one, and I've already downloaded all of the models from the Apple app store I've had a go on one in the past and you use it just like a regular pedal. Quick demo from when it came out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVkTaesYn-0 BUT - when that review was done you only got about 4 models included. Now they are all free to download
22. Great bit of kit, so get your finger out. Then download all the models from iTunes
