1. I like the old ones - but the unusual pickup mounting is annoying for us modders.
2.
Indeed but as it's a video to promote the bass I'd have thought they would have made sure they show the full range of the bass rather than harmonics and mid to upper flash etc. If they are trying to sell me a 5 string bass, I want to hear the B string being played properly so I can make an informed choice. I like Yamaha a lot I'd just like a more rounded/fuller view of what it can/cant do.
Agreed. I've had plenty of 5 strings where all the bass except the low string has been excellent. Need some nice low piano tone notes from that B string to decide.
3.
Yes and there are no custom charges.
Where from?
4. https://www.gak.co.uk/blog/yamaha-bb-series/ I like the look of the 434. I have severe gas for a PJ at the moment.
5. Full details are here: https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/article.php?article_id=192 It is being hosted by Ross Bailey (Rossyamaha on the Fretboard forum) who is a very handy session player and the font of all helix knowledge. No doubt it will be concentrating on guitar use, but the Helix is an amazing bass unit too, and the routing options are beyond anything else I've ever heard of. Apparently it will be streamed on the Yamaha facebook page too. I'm most annoyed I can't get out of work. I love my Helix - it has replaced multiple preamps and pedals for me and I've only scratched the surface.
6. http://uk.matrixamplification.com/rack-amplifers/gt-1000-fx-2u.html Nolly is using these.
7. Price drop to £275.0 as I've just seen Lozz's P bass is up for sale.
8. If someone bought my Ampeg pre I'd be all over that.
9. Get a proper flight case. £500 is nothing to protect your musical children.
10. Cheap I love the Marshall ED1 Middle-ish MXR Loads a money, Darkglass Super Symmetry
11. Anyone owned both the Darkglass and the Compact at the same time? Which did you prefer and why? Did you keep both? I think I might sell the Darkglass and get the Compact, but there's not many on the used market!
12. Anyone know what the preamp in the Urge 2 is? I think the Urge 1 had a Sadowsky preamp, but not the 2. Is it just the generic Fender one they use in all of their active basses, or is it something else?
13. WD Music will make you any plate you like if you give them the dimensions. You can order via the uk site. They are currently making me a Ray5 plate cut for a precision pickup. Doing a Bongo that just has the neck pup moved back 10mm will be easy.
14. Yes please. I've never bought from New Zealand before. I've always been pinged when buying from USA
15. So - write to the label. No emails, do it properly so you get written responses to keep. Ask them how you would get their permission for it. They will tell you their process - or will inform you of the rights holders if it is not them. 1 step at a time. Don't pay anything, don't sign anything, don't agree to anything without getting professional advice.
16.
Would it not have been Cullum's label paid Radiohead's label? I know that's semantics but in this topic semantics matter don't they? Not trying to be facetious about it, it's really complex when it comes to actual legal entities being that either Radiohead the artist owns the copyright or the label which Radiohead are signed to owns the copyright. I know nothing about this sort of stuff and find the whole legal landscape quite intimidating!
Of course that is possible. It's also possible that the writers of the music have sold the mechanical rights and publishing rights separately. Or kept one and not the other. The point is, we don't know. All we know or at least can guess with some accuracy, is that there will have been a fee. The semantics are only applicable to an individual matter and not a general rule to be assumed for relationships between other artists and their labels. However the basic rule remains the same: someone (it matters not who) owns the rights to a piece of music. Anyone else who wants to do more with it than play it in a pub will need to obtain permission. That permission might be cheap or expensive. It might be free. It might cost your house. The point is you don't know, and you won't know until you locate the rights holders and ask them. Some artists love covers and allow it for £1. Some don't allow it at any price. If you find the rights holders (easy) then they are most likely to offer you terms. After all they want other ways of making money from their product. They will send you a contract. It might be good terms. It might be horrific. If you sign it without getting advice from a music lawyer then you are mental.
17. I should have done it to a Yamagha Att3. The neck is massive. Would have been great to slim it
18. Cullem will have paid Radiohead money for being able to cover the song. How much is ip to Radiohead. Apparently Run DMC only earned $5000 from their cover of Walk this way - Aerosmith got the rest of the earnings.
19.
Plus they'd all keep falling over each other.
I suppose we could dig up Bob Fosse and ask him to choreograph for that many people and instruments. He seemed to like a challenge.
