ThorpyFX Fat General compressor version 1 A fantastic compressor. Simple parallel compression if you want it, or squeeze the whole lot. Manual: Only selling because I'm moving away from compressors in my bass rig and towards hard limiters instead. Velcro on the bottom. No box. Difference between v1 and v2 is that the V2 is smaller and cannot run on a battery. No other differences in case anyone is wondering. ****SOLD***** ___________________________________________________________________________ MXR Bass Envelope Filter (SOLD) Up until recently my absolute favourite filter. Works great on guitar as well, and unlike a lot of filters has a dry blend. Very easy to dial in and tons of range. Very good condition. Velcro on the bottom. ***SOLD AND GONE***

There was a band called Ten Men Wide from somewhere in Wales and their singer / bassist played an 8. They were a 3 piece and they sounded huge. Had some drive on the bass too and I imagine the octave string filled in a lot more harmonic content with the drive going. I'd really like an 8, but they are all to heavy for me.

There you go.

Video up. They use it direct too.

I am really enjoying this pedal. It's bumped my ThorpyFX Fat General off my board. The FG will probably end up on my guitar board. Or I might move it on and have a look at the Keeley one as well. Damn you Al! This is your fault!

Why would anyone think more strings make better music? More strings increase range thereby increasing compositional and playing choices but that's it! It's still up to the composer to write something worth listening to in the first place. I happen to like 5 strings because I can use sheet music written for piano and not have to play octaves when the piano part goes too low for the 4 string bass. Not having the B string in that situation can make the music sound odd - all the other instruments in a downward pattern but the bass jumping octaves can ruin the effect. Not to mention having that low B is an absolute godsend when playing in key signatures that have been picked to suit transposing instruments! I spend a lot of time playing with saxophones and clarinets and it is really useful. It's also great to sit under more instruments. If I'm playing in the Big Band then I've got baritone saxes and trombones to deal with - with a low B I can still sit under them and not invade their sonic space in the arrangement. Should probably also mention that the double bass was originally a 3 string IIRC.

Well the lag wasn't shite.... Stupid thing kept chucking me out completely. Didn't get to play a note. Of the 150 or so I reckon about 80-90 of them were stable though, so not as bad as it could have been.

I haven't even listed it yet.

The mods have been reversed now (apart from the Hipshots anyway) Actually I need to get some pickup mounting bolts as I can't find the originals and the ones I'm using are a little short, but other than that it is now sounding like a stingray again. Annoyingly I really like it! But I must be strong. I know full well that when / if gigs start again it will be too heavy for me after about 30 mins

If you are on facebook there is a Helix for Bassists group that is a great resource. You could also download the demo version of Helix Native to your PC and try it out for 14 days too. The sounds are the same - obviously depending on what you plug into.

Slayer - Black Magic. Has some cheeky 5/4 bars thrown in here and there. -
I could probably knock something up at the weekend. You can get the 14 day free trial though - that's available on all their products. The only recordings already are part of an album that I'm recording with some mates and that's not ready for others to hear yet!

To me it looks like a really clever bit of kit that ultimately my iPhone can do already in Amplitube. And for practice I really don't care about having dozens of IRs to choose from.

Can I have an anti-squeak filter in mine?

Don't worry about the lack of a dedicated input - there'll be a "7" model in 6 months and an "Ultra" next year!

This. The most success to be had is when it is not viewed as a box of amps and separate FX and separate whatevers. It's just a big jigsaw box of sounds. If you want to put a cab sim before the amp in the signal chain, then a pedal, then another amp - you can! Probably sound like ar$e, but that's half the fun.

I have their Parallax one. It’s amazing. I have the NTS guitar one too. It’s not subtle, but one of the best high gain sounds I’ve ever heard.

Hanging basses or on stands which is best?

Mine are littered all over the lounge and the bedroom. I'm amazed my wife hasn't had a bonfire yet. -

QUICK POLL: Terminology smackdown - Pickguard or Scratchplate?
fretmeister replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
If you play with your fingers and call it a pickguard then you are part of the problem.
