The old ones are a lot heavier if that is important to you.

Usually different cabs as well though. Switching amp heads on 1 cab is very dodgy if they are valve amps. There are a few expensive and complex bits of lit that can do it, but not many. Needs to keep the amp seeing a load all the time but not have any audio gap either.

This is my dilemma. I sometimes need to slap a bit. Noting too Wooten like - more "Uptown Funk" type. The One10 pair I have is great for many things, but lacks a bit of top end sparkle for that. While I like the Super Compact tone a lot, the top end of the freq range is lower than the One10. How different is the Super Midget? I'm not usually a fan of tweeters either, but at the moment I find myself needing a bit of a Marcus top end.

What did you like more about the Super Twin? Did you find it too dark at all with the lower top end freq response?

Friends tell me the Mosky, err, tribute to the famed Klon Centaur is pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing despite only costing about 2% of a real Klon. It's seems they make good and affordable stuff.

I think they are all very different from the others. I don't think the SC is "more" different though.

Necks seem to sell well and for good money, but there are so few after market necks available that fit the 5 string body the bodies don't seem to go for much alone. It's an option if it doesn't sell but that would be a shame. It's a great bass.

I've had 40DC before and the MM5CS which is tonally the same as the 40CS I believe. I thought they were very good. Definite humbucker sort of tones, really smooth mids and a nice high that wasn't overly bright. Only thing I did discover was that if used with just the standard tone control and not an EQ system, the tone didn't darken enough for me in that old P bass sort of way.

Yes. Although I don't have the original brown tort scratchplate. A previous owner had swapped it for the paisley, and although I was given the brown one it had been badly bent by however it had been stored and couldn't be used again.

I did think about that, but the current opportunities for testing it as a PJ are very limited. On balance putting back to stock seems to be the best approach.

I have this ancient DOD Phasor 490 From what I gather they were made in 1978-early 80s. Most of the photos I find online have slightly different graphics. The name and number is on the opposite side and the text is white and not yellow: Reverb has a few white text ones at about £100 in various condition, and has 1 yellow text ones at £248 - although it hasn't sold yet and it does appear to be in better condition than mine. Without any luck so far I'm trying to find out if there are any circuit differences between the white and yellow text versions. I may well end up selling it but I want to know what I have first. And I'll need to find some extra baseplate screws to replace the ones I've lost! It makes a wonderfully swirly sort of Hawkwind on (extra) acid sound that I haven't heard elsewhere. Anyone got any ideas or information about them? I've had a look using the waybackmachine and similar, but the info is really limited and I can't see if there were different versions or if the different colouring was just cosmetic etc. Any hits from the pedal nerds would be greatly appreciated.

That's a really good question. I've not measured them. Got to be worth a look. Although the Nordy J is part of a set. The neck one has never been fitted to anything. Might do ok selling the entire set and maybe keeping the P pickup if it fits in the Mezzo. I just hope I still don't like the Ray as a Ray when it's all reversed!!
