1. I've been looking at these as a bi-amp to work with my GB 600 on larger venues but holiday in 2 weeks time means its not gonna happen at the moment. This has to be the lowest asking price I've seen for one of these little beasts and extremely tempting. Any particular reason for selling or why it doesn't work for you. Dave
2. YEP mines is my goto bass at the moment. Use it for just about everything. Congrats on the sale Dave
3. great price for a great bass. I paid well over your asking price for one that was in a sale. Good luck. Dave
4. That's a great price for two Aggie 112 cabs. I thought these would have been snapped up very quickly. Afraid i have enough cabs myself. Good luck Dave
5.
Genius. Unless the world record was in shouting, a soundcheck wouldn't really impair the watching of an event. Or if you were really desperate to see it, you'd watch it at home or record it. This reminds me of the people who buy houses next to pubs and then complain vehemently about the noise....
I actually know people who bought the flat above their own local and then complained about the noise. Brilliant. !!!!! Dave
6. Thanks guys. seems to be even response on most of the suggestions. I'll have a look on ebay tonight and see whats available based on the suggested units. I use Roland GT-6B pedals so the G30 being a floor unit might be the better option. As always sound advice from fellow BC'ers thanks Dave
7. You can't argue with that reasoning. A man who knows his position and standing in life. Dave
8. Not sure if this is right section but looking at wireless system for my bass. Any comments or advice on best option without spending silly money. I've heard you lose some of your tone ? Do they suffer from interferance. Recommended makes / models ? cheers Dave
9.
No idea why Steve and if I say so myself, we do a good rendition too - beats me.
Maybe how it fits into the rest of the set. I've seen that happen on occasion. Not so much these days but if a DJ found what got girls on the floor then the guys will surely follow. That was always the key to a good DJ night IMO Dave
10. If your thesis is to help in providing your main income then i would put the effort into it. For a few mths the band should accept that people have other responsibilies that will come and go and need to be addressed. Most band members will have a sympathetic ear and as you say recent babies will draw on their time quite a bit so a compromise from all of the band might be easier than you think. Guess its down to talking it over with the guys in the band. I'm hoping it goes well but its not the end of the world if it doesn't. There are always plenty of bands out there. Cheers Dave
11.
I wonder if the people that have £1000+ rigs sound better than the ones that don't? With my £500 rig I can play anywhere and sound great. Is it essential to spend more than double that? Not trying to pick a fight, I'm just curious as to the benefits of a £1000+ rig. Truckstop
Definately a good question. I guess its down to getting the sound that you have in your head produced live. I had a Roland pre-amp into 2off Mattamp tube power amps and into Peavey and celestion loaded cabs at one time using a jazz bass. (mid 80's) I recorded with it on many occasions and to this day that sound is what i aim for. To me, my GB streamliner and Berg HT322 cab give me that exact same sound although the years may have distorted that memory slightly. To buy the original set up would probably have cost me far more. I have tried other amps from Selmer, Carlsboro, Peavey, H/H, Ampeg, EBS, Ashdown, TE, Marshall and for various reasons couldn't quite get that specific tone i was looking for. Either too clinical or too undefined and muddy or not enough low to mid punch. I didn't plan to buy the most expensive amp by any means but more trying to get that warm mid punchy sound. Then there is the weight issue. GB amp and Berg AE112 cabs are easily lifted and transported anywhere and small enough to fit in the boot of the car. That was a major factor for me. Hope that kinda helps answer why i personally went for what i currently have. At the moment i have a mix of Tube warmth from the GB and a mix of SS from my Warwick for bigger venues. Cheers Dave
12. Use my lightweight rig probably. GB streamliner i think was circa £600 2 off Berg AE112 cabs circa £1200 Roland GR6B pedals i think were around £200 Total £2000 Whow that came as a bit of a surprise cause I've bought it over a few years so never really price tagged the full thing. For bigger gigs i add a Berg HT322 which was bought from a very good fellow BC'er - can't remember cost though ??? and a Warwick ProFET IV for some added oomph. I do switch the amps to speakers for bigger gigs with GB feeding the HT322. Dave
13. I've had 2 jazz basses (80 & 2009 Geddy Lee) and a 79 precision. Can't say i've noticed much difference in the jazz basses even though 30 yrs between them. The only real diff i've noticed is between modern versions of Jazz basses whereby neck feel was very different between the Mex, the Highway, US and MIJ versions to a point i was very surprised. I must admit though that the US version did have an overall feel of better quality but i reckon i put that down to imagination because of the huge diff in price. Not sure if the Highway ersion might actually have been the MIM version - few yrs ago now. Maybe stand to be corrected here but did Geddy Lee not fit a new neck on his original Jazz after it was worn beyond repair. ?? Dave Dave
14. Also agree with Bilbo. Is reducing your cycling time an option and balance it against other "hobbies". Your studies and job must come first if you want to have the best chance of success in your main career if that is your main career. Band remains a hobby and like all good hobbies you fit in around your responsibilities. I have reduced my motorbike days to play in my current band. I found the focus of the band and learning 2-3 songs every week greatly reduced work stress by a long shot. That was an unexpected bonus and like Bilbo says Music could focus your mind if approached correctly and aid in management of your depression. Could you map your time and see where you are spending it and from there look at how you can adjust each item to a more suitable balanced workload. Like the "stay away from the telly" that does waste a lot of time especially if you are into sport at the moment. Hope it works out ok for you. Dave
15. I remember standing in the pub one Saturday afternoon and one of my mates who i had known for approx 3 yrs said he was looking for a new bassist for a well established band he had. The existing guy was packing it in. He asked if anyone knew of any bassists to the response of other mates who said "why not ask Dave - he's a bassist" He had no idea i played bass and after dep for his next gig 2 weeks later i was offered the permanent position and enjoyed a good few yrs gigging all over UK. Great time but that confirmed to me that i was in fact "a bassist" Dave
16. This is back to the old arguement about whether it should be played note for note exactly as original or variations on a theme. Some guys need the song to be exact because they rely on hearing certain notes or phrases to keep them on track for there own changes within the song. I've always put that down to a little lack of confidence in themselves. They should know the song well enough themselves to allow for minor variations or ad-libs to spice things up a little. Historically I've always gone down the route of ad-lib to a certain degree but retaining the main theme. A sense of freedom within the structure of the song. My current band have the opinion that a song should be copied as it was originally intended and for rehearsals we tend to do that but allow some freedom once the band are fully confident they know the song well enough to allow a little expression at times. It does frustrate me but it does seem to work for this band so i just accept it and enjoy it for what it is. Good fun and a great way to spend time with friends. Dave
17.
I reckon you need a yamaha attitude instead or a Dingwall or maybe a Shuker?

You're barred
Brilliant Dave
18. I've had a few jazz basses over the years and tend to run them both vols max and adjust tone pot to suit. Used mainly in rock bands with that set up. I like the bridge pup for nice sharp mid sounding jazz but can't say i've ever felt the bridge pup was weak in any way. It just has a different tone which appeals to some and not others. I guess as pointed out previously you're not happy with it then maybe best to look at the Precision option rather than waste time and money on a project that might or probably won't give you the end result you are hoping for. Is there anyone out there who could let you try a Jazz with different pick ups - maybe some nice fellow BC'er who has already gone down this route. Hope you find what you are looking for Dave
19. Oooohhh Lovely bass. skint due to on-coming hols but this is gorgeous. Good luck Dave
20. I got mine in a sale at GAK and it cost me a fair bit more than this so seems like a fair price to me. Good luck with the sale Dave
21. She's a beauty right enough. Already have a fretless but always liked these. Hols at end of month restricting my GAS i'm afraid. All the best and good luck with the sale Dave
22. Like it Karl. That is one gorgeous bass. Holiday end of the month so saving the pennies. Good luck with the sale Dave
23. i had no idea Nick was still producing albums. He was one of the better acts from the 80's and hugely under-rated outside of the pop scene. Let me know what the album is like Dave
24.
Gaffa Tape and step ladder. Run cable upwards from your amp to the ceiling, tape it up with gaffa tape. Run it forwards taping it to the ceiling every few metres to where you're going to be standing on stage, where it drops and plugs into your bass.
Need to try this approach. Cheaper than buying a wireless system Dave
25. Quite fancy the wireless route but not sure which is best to go for. Will post another thread for advice rather than hijack Silddx's Dave
