1. Nice reminder i had forgot about that. thanks Dave
2.
think boutique bass meets manga hello kitty
That's just made it even worserer. I need to leave early and get home to find out what this is all about. Dave
3. I'm intrigued. I can't see the vid at work but need to see when i get home tonight. When you can't see what's getting talked about your mind conjures up many weird and wonderful things. Dave
4. Huge +1 for Stringbusters too. I was looking for a 6 string set of Light gauge Elixir strings for my Overwater and the full set didn't fit with the B string. When i contacted them they asked me to provide a full set of measurements and they sent me what i needed. great service from these guys too Dave
5. Is there a problem with the price list. Looks good to me Is it not the same with most major manufacturers whereby their illustrated price list won't be what you actually pay in the shop. You nearly always get it discounted in some way. Still a helluva lot of money for a bass and don't think i would spend that again on an off the shelf bass. Mines was advertised at retail £1150 back in 89 and i managed to get a good deal at £850 if memory still serves me right. I think i actually have the original receipt somewhere. That was a saving of £300 circa 25%. Assuming market place is still same then that would bring them more into line with some other equivelant manufacturers. The originals were IMHO very well built and are a dream to play. Cheers Dave
6. Does it come with a sack barra for transporting and free membership to a local gym. Tried lifting one of these few yrs ago and they are a tad on the heavy side. Great sound though and i guess that's what counts. All the best with it. Cheers Dave
7. [sub]+1 for me on this one too.[/sub] [sub]Gave me a special deal when i price matched him against himself. Was a mistake on their part but he honoured it without question and even gave me a better price than best one advertised.[/sub] [sub]Not many companies like that these days[/sub] [sub]Well done Paul.[/sub] [sub]Cheers[/sub] [sub]Dave[/sub]
8. Had a problem with an item. Emailed them. They arranged return paid postage, no quibble and new unit arrived few days later. Also the original unit was ordered on a Sun eveing and arrived at my door on Tues. That's not a bad service in anyone's book. To date i have no issues with Thomann at all. Not buying anything at moment but guess I'm not near you either. Sorry. Dave
9. My Surreal album arrived yesterday. Whow ! brilliant. So easy to listen to. Everything just simply flows and makes you wanna move with it. Great stuff. Cheers Dave
10. I might have picked this up wrong ? I'm not a huge fan of The Who either but after reading this thread i think it a little unfair to compare a live soundtrack with other studio mixes. I don't have the vid at work here at moment but i think i clicked on this over the weekend and saw a brief glimpse of the OX playing live. Of course it might have been something else completely and nothing to do with this thread but oh well never mind as the saying goes. If you isolate the actual studio mix does it sound same or is it more defined and accurate. I'm a huge fan of Mr Lee but i have heard some rather inaccurate playing on some of his isolated bass tracks and Geddy will always tell you that the live mistakes on the early albums were deliberately left to show warts and all. That is a sign they want fans to know they are human too. The Who had a raw sound that captured the era at that time. John and Keith had that kind of raw element when playing live. Horses for courses IMO. Dave
11.
I loved Moonmadness and Snow Goose back in the day but was disappointed at their post-Moonmadness output. Afraid I went off them when they played my local (Tunbridge Wells Assembly Hall) in around 1980 and were utterly disinterested and didn't bother with an encore (despite the usual calls from the crowd). They really didn't want to be there and - as a teen with hard earned pockey money that paid for the gig - that was it for me. Occasionally listen to Moonmadness (still got it on my iPod; I love the ethereal Spirit of the Water more than the obvious ones like Lunar Sea).
Think the band were having serious internal issues at that time if memory serves me right. Its no excuse for putting on a poor show or not giving it your best. Shame when that happens. Dave
12. Gorgeous bass. Can't see why you would sell this for a Jazz though. Any specific reason as its pretty much same anyway apart from active ?? Would love it but have enough basses at moment. Good luck Dave
13.
How are you finding it? So far mines not as 'warm' as the reviews have been saying but then I'm not comparing it directly with anything in particular (although my old SWR Workingman is warm). I'm finding, if I'm careless with the two gain controls that I can overdrive something I shouldn't (probably the power section) and get a nasty clicking sound before the 'Clip' light comes on. It only happens at a pointless setting of both knobs on '10'. Does yours do that?
I'm running my 600 at '12' on Gain & pre-vol & 11 on master but depends on where my EQ sits. Are you running it at 4 or 8 ohm. When running at 8 ohm i found mine started to occasionally flash the limit LED but according to manual you can run it like this without any issues. On 4 ohms I've had it running with Master at 13 and limit lite only just starts to flash. I have only used this setting once with bass boosted to 3 because of AE112 cabs. Fine with the HT322 because i don't boost bass at all. With regards the overdrive sound it can cope with that too without issue. I also found that my 2 Berg AE112 neo cabs were a little bass lite and now use my Berg HT322 and only EQ i use now is slight boost of 220Hz frequency. I'm not sure what the nasty clicking noise is though. Can't say I've actually heard that. Dave
14. Nice and enjoy. All the best with her. Now that I'm using my Berg HT322 the amp has just blossomed giving a full range warm glow to my sound. This is probably the best bass set up I've ever had. Dave
15. Big fan of Camel here too. Live Record bass playing excellent. Saw them on the I Can See Your House From Here tour in early 80's with Colin Bass another great bassist. Agree that Doug Ferguson was always under-rated. He had some very nice bass runs had a significant contribution to Camel's sound in those days. Dave
16. Its one of these isn't it. Few valves, reasonably portable with a trolley and very chic to say the least. Good luck and all the best with whatever it is. Cheers Dave
17.
Errm, thirteen Three vocals, guitar, keys, bass, drums, two trumpets, alto tenor & bari saxes, and trombone. Needless to say, the gig money doesn't pay the mortgage. None of us does it for the loot though, it's a great laugh with a bunch of mates.
This definately looks like good fun, especially when you are all good mates. Must take a fair bit of organising to get this running i guess. Must be fantastic opportunities to select virtually any type of song and make it your own. Well done. This is kinda growing on me. Cheers Dave
18. Enjoy a 3 piece band more for many reasons. Less tension, easier for decision making, less gear to haul, smaller van hire etc This is my first 5 piece band in many yrs but guys are all good at what they do and have known each other for many yrs. I'm the new guy at 7mths. We elected the keyboards as "musical director" to make final decisions on songs and how we arrange them. (he has the best overall ear for all instruments and is a multi- instrument player incl keys, gtr, bass, drms and does backing vocals so was ideal choice on this occasion. Before that decision the band were in constant debate about arrangements. This works extremely well for us. Dave
19. I ordered a Roqsolid cover for my Berg HT322 which they had never made before. Ordered Bank Holiday Mon 9th April evening and delivered Thu 12th April even though it was at this point a one off for them. They had excellent communication right over the weekend with personal emails from Bryn. Cannot praise this company enough. Excellent all round service with a smile. Highly recommended and the cover was perfect. Cheers Dave
20. I think keeping my AE's is the better option for same reason as yourself being very light weight and easy to handle and gives you options. I definately love the sound of them with my jazz on bridge pick up. Very clear punchy sound and great for many intricate finger styles. Good thing about the Berg's is that no matter what I've put through them they never seem to distort. The sound just seems to get better. Dave
21.
The new cab sounds like a great buy. When I bought my AE cabs I tried several combinations and ended up with an AE210 and AE112. I love the sound of the 2 cabs separate and together. I know were told they won't work together but they do! I'd hang on to the AE cabs for awhile. You might put your back out, like I did with my Mesa cabs!
I probably will keep them as they do have their own unique sound. Apart from that my back is a bit aching this morning humphing the cab in / out of car. Probably lack of decent exercise on my part though - I hear about mixed cabs not working quite a lot on BC but IME over many yrs I've always had a combination of mixed cabs and they have always been great. Maybe my ears just aren't as sensitive as others i guess. Dave
22. I had no idea there was a link between those particular mfrs. All good quality gear at the end of the day. Well had my HT322 at rehearsal today and what a difference it made. Amp ran flat all day (6hrs) and there was more than enough depth and punch. It was like having my AE112 cabs with a low end boost without losing that typical Berg crisp clear punch especially when i ramped it up to more than normal playing levels. Typically i run my GB amp at 12 on Gain, Vol and Master Vol with gain switch IN and with bass at 1 and 600Hz at 2 - 3 with my AE112 cabs. When run in parallel with my Warwick head into Ampeg 8x10 i drop the GB bass level to 12 and change the 6oo to 250Hz boost at 2 and this gives me a nice full crisp and clear overall sound. The Warwick head would be running at minimum levels just enough to boost lower end frequencies and no more. With the HT322 cab today everything was flat with Gain, Vol and Master Vol all at 12 but bass, mid and treble all running flat at 12 too therefore in theory reducing the actual amp output however the level sounded the same as usual. I can only put it down to the HT322 cab being louder ??? Also noted that the tone seemed more evenly spread across the frequency range. No boom or drop out frequencies that i sometimes imagine from the AE's but again that could be down to standing directly in front of them when they are so low down. Was probably the fact it had more depth that made it appear louder. Although the cab is heavy it is very portable once out of the car and on its wheels. I'm now of the opinion that the Neo cabs just don't suit my style of playing at the moment whereas the HT322 has exactly what I've been looking for. Not sure whether or not I will sell the AE's because they do have a very nice sound for other styles rather than Rock and are very portable to say the least. Need to give that some thought. On another positive it has verified how much i love the sound of the GB stl 600 amp head. A few more outings needed to confirm these findings aren't novelty of new cab syndrom Cheers Dave
23.
I hear he is a selfless lover as well.
OK that's getting a little weird now
