  1. It is possible to find out how much they paid for it, the sticker will have a 4 or 5 letter code on it somewhere, it will be 2 or 3 letters then a dot and 2 more letters, the last two letters will probably be HH, Cash converters use what is usually referred to as the Blacksmith code, to mark the price paid on each item. B=1 L=2 A=3 and so on, so the HH is 0 pence. i find this useful when i find something in the shop that i don't want to pay full price for, knowing how much they paid is a great starting point for haggling. Matt
  2. the website is working fine for me from a computer that has never seen the website before, the order confirmation section of the FAQ states " You will not receive any further communication from [sfx] until your product is ready. if they are busy (and i think it's a one man operation) then it might be a few days before they get your order built and ready. I have one of their pedals on my board (a prototype/custom Red dragon booster) thy are really great products, i would be tempted to wait a few more days if possible. Matt
  3. I believe that all of the various cd-63 versions all used the same laser unit, the original Philips one is not available any more but there is a good alternative, there is a guide to swapping it here. https://www.hifigear.co.uk/blog/marantz-cd63se-laser-transport-mechanism-replacement/ Matt
  4. no problem, please report back when you get a chance to test one, i think at last count i had 11 Hiscox cases of various sizes so I might be in the market for one at some point (provided i ever get back to gigging!) Matt
  5. i have considered this before as I use Hiscox cases for all my instruments. I found this but never got round to buying one as i mainly use my car for transporting and the the trips using public transport where it would have been useful never happened. This thing not sure how the fit would be on a Hiscox but i guess you could send it back if it's not suitable. there are some other options as well from Gewa and ortega. Gewa Ortega Matt
  6. I bought a pair of gen 2 barefaced midgets just before the gen 3 cabs were released, I haven't looked at another cab since they arrived (except I did test out a compact before ordering the midgets and If I had the space I would definitely add one to my collection) Matt
  7. Indeed, the original thread is here (although some of the images have gone) Martin did sign up as a member on here to get some input but i don't think he's been back since then. I did ask about a 100W 15" wide version to go with my Barefaced midget stack and Martin implied that it should be possible and around the £1K mark which I think is reasonable but unfortunately not within my budget right now. Matt
  8. unfortunately it can be quite difficult to identify roundwounds without silks, i'm fairly confident that they aren't D'addario, fender or rotosound as all 3 companies now have coloured ball-ends, your best hope is that the seller can enlighten you, failing that there are a few lists of what colour the silks are for most strings so you could make a list of all the non-silked strings and maybe narrow it down to a short list. in terms of gauge 45-65-85-105 is a very popular set, most manufacturers offer it so this might not be much use in narrowing down the search. if you can describe the feel and tone then that might help narrow it down a bit. Matt
  9. I've not heard this amp in person but I have heard great things about it, Martin is my go to tech for all things amp, I did briefly chat with him about a baby 100w version of this amp but unfortunately i am too broke to actually commission it. Matt
  10. I love a bit of Hifi, had a thread over in off-topic a while back about choosing my new amp after my Cyrus 6 went pop. the TL:DR is that i went for a Musical Fidelity M2si and am very happy with it, swapped out my old Castle Durham 2 standmounts for a pair of Castle Severn 2 floorstanders at the same time. I mainly listen to Vinyl, A thorens TD160 mk2 with an SME 3009 arm that i got free from a mates dad for 33rpm duties and a Nad 533 (rebadged rega) for 45rpm, marantz cd63, Nakamichi cassette deck 2 and then a denon tu260 and a pure DAB for radio, the turntables are linked via a project phonobox s and a cambridge audio 540 (i think) I have a friend that worked at mission many years ago so some of this obsession comes from a big stack of brochures he gave me when i was about 15! the rack was homebuilt using ideas from TNT audio (it's a modified TNT Flexy) it's the second one i have built, had to replace the original one to make more space for vinyl (and so as to make space for the second turntable) Matt Matt
  11. ahh, my old bronco! I can only remember gigging it once myself, at the most disastrous gig I ever played (not the basses fault, it did it's job fine) I often think of it and would probably have done the same mods myself if I hadn't sold it as it was quite a nice instrument, I bought it from @mcnach a few months before i sold it to you. I do find myself looking at Bronco's but i think i would go for a standard black one and then have a pickup made for it this time. Matt
  12. I know it's slightly over your budget but there is a barefaced compact in the classifieds for 325, that would be great with that head (and you could add a midget or another compact at a later date for even more volume.) Matt
  13. Line6 quote less than 2.9ms latency which is fairly impressive, whether that is real or not i don't know but i've never noticed any issues. Matt
  14. i started with a Line6 G30 then upgraded to a G50 after a couple of years, both are fairly common on the secondhand market, i bought both of mine through the marketplace here and i think the total cost of both combined was less than the new price of a G50. one of my friends started with one of the cheap 2.4GHz ones from amazon and gave up on it in about an hour as it wasn't connecting reliably, he went to a smoothhound one and is very happy with it, i borrowed the smoothhound and didn't get on with it (in the gap between the G30 and the G50) G30's have been sold on here for as little as 75 quid (about 145 new) Matt
  15. Space, I only have room for what I have now, about 15 instruments in total (guitars and basses) if I want something new then something has to go first to make space, I have only ever had one bass amp at a time and since I went to markbass and barefaced I haven't had any amp gas. My guitar amp collection has been slimmed down considerably and what is left isn't going anywhere. Matt
  16. Thats a lovely job you've done there, i've looked at that paint before, might try it next time i paint a body (with the clear coats over the top probably) I have a shop locally that specialises in that type of paint for street art. I have one of those 18mm spaced bridges you were looking at, bought it in error ages ago (used i think) If you want it i'd be happy to drop it in the post to you as it's never likely to get used. It might take me a week or so to get it to the post office though. Matt
  17. I think it would be for my letts 5 string so not actually a p-bass, but it's a passive bass and the p retro has always appealed to me Matt
  18. i've been waiting for one as well, if i start saving now i should have enough pennies when they become available (or possibly 2) Matt
  19. my leads are coiled carefully, secured with a velcro tie (which is rivetted onto the cable so i don't lose them) then they go into the case that my amp and pedalboard live in (a thon accessory case) the cables for the PA get exactly the same treatment but go into a sports holdall (actually 2 smaller ones to keep the weights down) Discovering the Velcro double sided tape on a roll was a revelation, I use a jeans rivet to attach them to the cable and hey presto no lost ties, i think i have bought at least 60 of the pre-made non-attached type and could probably find about 10 of them left if i searched hard enough, they either go missing on dark stages gigs or get pinched. and some of the cheaper loop-on type have started to come apart and ended up smearing the sticky adhesive everywhere. https://shop.velcro.co.uk/collections/velcro-brand-cable-ties/products/velcro-brand-one-wrap-reusable-ties-10-mm-x-5-m-black https://www.prym.com/en/rivets-9mm-silver-coloured/old-iron-403101 Matt
  20. I would definitely be looking at the ibanez talman range, there are black versions available, either the tmb30 if you want shortscale or the tmb100 if you want full scale, they are very popular and not too difficult to find in shops. Very good instruments at bargain prices. Matt
  21. they should be standard metric fasteners, measure the diameter of the screw and then hit up ebay or similar for some replacements, i would suggest Nyloc nuts as they are less susceptible to loosening off due to vibration. i'll guess that they will be M3 but M2 or M2.5 are possible. Matt
  22. i'll agree with everything that has been said already (especially the use of a wireless so you can wander around and see how you sound in different areas as suggested by @Dad3353) a quick click of the link in your Bio shows me that you are playing a fender Precision which is a great starting point, but what amp are you using? also the EQ settings can have a huge difference in how audible you are in a room, i find that a bit of a boost in the mids helps to keep me audible. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity and i'm slightly envious as i've not played in a band since the lockdown was enforced. Matt
  23. 😂 right now i'm going to gave to buy some seal stickers to go on it!
  24. some of the images were captured by the way back machine https://web.archive.org/web/20121015131941/https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/134869-re-valving-an-orange-bass-terror/ if someone has a bit of spare time they could be retrieved from there and re-posted to an alternative hosting site? i would do it myself but i'm only here sneakily, i should be buying new seals for the shower screen not looking at basschat 😁 Matt
  25. I know it's not in production anymore but the SWR headlite has a Built in compressor, however i never really got on with the one i had, the input clipping light used to come on far earlier than i liked, ended up selling it and going over to Markbass. Some of the issues might have been down to my stupid colour-blindness though as it used bi-colour LED's as indicators and i was never sure what colour they were lighting up, it also had the stupidest ultra bright LED's and chrome control knobs so it was impossible to see the settings unless you were in a very bright room.
