1. I'm sure Newtone would make them.
2. Years ago I noticed that sometimes I would have picks rotating in my hand or drop them often st seemingly random gigs. A little while later I realised that this only happened if I watched my hands before going on stage. A little sweat and oil from your skin really helps to grip better. Wash these away and you lose a lot of friction between your fingers and the pick. I'll wash my hands if they're dirty after load-in or whatever but after that I'll leave them until after the show. Not the most hygienic approach but it helps.
3. In no particular order: Johnny Cash (especially his later stuff) Simon Neil Dave Hause Laura Jane Grace
4. Not me but it turns out I live very close to you.
5. As others have said I'd start with a thin pick since you're in a bit of a tight spot. It'll bend more as you hit the string so you won't have to grip it as tightly and you'll have less chance of dropping it because of this. As for playing position it's whatever feels most comfortable for you. I play with my bass low so my right arm pretty much straight, otherwise my elbow aches if it's any higher. But that's just me. However, since you're in a rush, is suggest leaving your strap at whatever length you usually have it. If you lower it it will also change your left hand positioning which can be difficult, uncomfortable or even painful if you're not used to it.
6. Does 'double album' in this case mean one very long album on two discs? I've always thought a double album was two separate but (often) related albums concieved, recorded, packaged and released together? I'm only asking because I wasn't aware that Generation Terrorists was a double album. Though it is very long.
7.
Spoke to boots today and they sell Acs but which ones 10s 17s or 20s
I have the 17s and I feel as if they give the right amount of protection without being too quiet. Of course I haven't used the 10s or 20s but to me they feel just right. Probably the best £100 I've ever spent.
8.
We played on the roof of the ashmolean museum in Oxford last summer whilst the Randolph hotel directly opposite was on fire.
You win.
9. Around this time last year my band played a show in a disused Cold War missile silo on a former army bass near Stoke that hosts an annual paintball tournament. It was good fun but freezing cold. The 'venue' was a long concrete tunnel with a huge ammo storage room off the side. It was basically a huge echo chamber! Snare drum for days!
10. Vox is one I thought of but it looks like they started making basses in '61 too. I wonder if there's a reason so many manufacturers started making basses that year?
11.
I've never used the tone controls on any bass or guitar I've ever owned including the active basses, cant see any reason why I ever would either.
I take the tone control out of all my basses. Most of them have the volume pot replaced with an on/off switch too.
12. I've toured with Misfits a couple of times and on more than one occasion when there have been fans waiting outside at load-in Jerry Only has invited them in to hang out and watch soundcheck.
13. I have the G30 plus a few other pedals and I've always used the passive input.
14. I think I have four these days. All Precisions. Two that I gig (main and backup) and two that have fallen out of favour and stay at home. There are also another four in the house that belong to Mrs. Strange.
15.
More Bad News, best comic strip ever , closely followed by Mr Jolly.
Yes.
16. I wanted to learn to play drums and my dad said "You only want to play drums so you can hide behind the kit." (I never was the most outgoing person) so my reply was "I'll play bass instead then." and that was that.
17.
Dee Dee Ramone. The fist time I heard the Ramones I thought to myself 'ah, so that's how it's done'.It wasn't long after that that I picked up my first bass.
As far as I'm concerned Dee Dee was a genius. If we're including more recent punk I'd throw these in there: Chris #2 - Anti-Flag Matt Freeman - Rancid Mike Dirnt - Green Day Andrew Seward - Against Me!
18.
Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes - Blossom
Yes! I'd also like to add; Anti-Flag - American Spring Danko Jones - Fire Music
19. Generally my band will find a record we like and then find out where they recorded it and who with. Then we'll talk to the band about the process and experience and try to find as much of the studio/engineer's work as we can. Then if it's all looking good we'll go there.
20. I really don't need another bass but this is so nice! And you're so close to me. Damn you!
21. I saw Anti-Flag four times in a week when they were here recently. One acoustic set in the Dr. Martens shop in Nottingham to about 30 people then three full shows. Different set at each show and they were on the ball every time. Well worth it.
22. I've had this issue too. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but it seems to have been a problem since I installed iOS 9. None of the navigation buttons (next page, last page and the button to go back to the last forum in the top left corner) work properly on the mobile version. They just reload the current page. I'm using Chrome. I haven't tried a different browser.
23. I currently have four. I have two MIM Fender Precision which will both be my main bass or backup at gigs, another Fender Precision which I haven't played for a while and a Squier VM Precision that lives in my living room for noodling on.
24. I've always loved this... http://youtu.be/KQk8c-GYGO8
