You can only copyright the layout design apparently, so designing a pcb with the same circuit but different traces is ok.

I played 5s almost exclusively for a few years and they were great, but I’ve gone back to 4s as the strings are 20% cheaper 😄

Neither option is without risk, but even discarding the risk of theft, most instruments would prefer being left indoors without too many temperature fluctuations. I'd never leave an instrument in a car for any length of time for this reason, insurance companies get a bit shirty when you leave valuable stuff in an unattended vehicle too, but a hotel room is looked upon more favourably.

I've tried all sort fo flats on my fretted and fretless jazz basses over a period of a couple of years, but went back to rounds for the extra top end bite - mostly for overdrive and slap tones. I've got a P bass at home with flats on, but that's more of an economical choice. I've only ever gigged with that bass once, and the others have had plenty of airings.

Could you not just use the SM58 to beat your drummer into submission - those things are bomb-proof?
