  1. I’m not a P player by any means, but’I’ve always loved the P bass sound on Frank Zappa’s ‘Broadway the Hard Way’ and ‘Tinseltown Rebellion’ albums; different players (Scott Thuned and Arthur Barrow respectively) but both do a fine job.
  2. Any 12AX7 would work in there, Watford Valves has an extensive range with very thorough descriptions of the sound of the different tubes. It’s certainly worth a browse of their website if nothing else. Also bear in mind that Behringer kit is built to budget, so by putting an upgraded tube in there will probably improve the sound noticeably.
  3. Mrs_5 and I have a piece of advice that we give to each other when going for important meetings/interviews etc... ”try not to be a twät”. Works every time.
  4. Agreed, these are AWESOME trems!
  5. I'd call that a positive conclusion to the festivities.
  6. Last night was one of our usual haunts; rushed setup due to the football being on telly, but was a hood gig. Usual 2 1/2 hours of shenanigans betwixt band members meant that we had a good giggle as well as the crowd. This afternoon was a quick 40 minute spot at the Head for the Hills festival in Ramsbottom. Just took a bass and a lead and found an SVT Classic head and 6x10 ready to plug into. Equally enjoyable performance from all involved. Off to work now for a rest! 😉
  7. Bought a DHA VT2 from Paul and it arrived the next day. Packaging was brilliant (air bags, foam peanuts, bubble-wrap) but the Royal Mail still managed to break both valves. Paul has gone above and beyond to help me to claim from the RM for their Neanderthal handlers. Wouldn't hesitate to deal with him again.
  8. Yup. I love jazz. Jazz, jazz, jazz.
  9. Good chorus layout too, but you’ll need the proper ICs.
  10. Bought last month from another BC’er as a stop-gap for some jobs while my power supply was being replaced on my pedalboard. Now it’s surplus to requirements and back up. Twenty five of your earth pounds seals the deal. Sold
  11. I’m usually in there with Slander, but only when we can’t get somewhere a bit more local to everyone as we’re spread out all over the country. What about yourself young fella?
  12. Yeah!!! Got this on vinyl the year it came out and always thought that my turntable was broken as there was no low end at all. It’s a real missed opportunity to make good on what this album should have been, but apparently there were so many drum edits on the tape that it’s too fragile to remix from the originals. F#@king Lars. Again.
  13. Know it well, rehearsed there a few times and yes, it's a gem of a rehearsal space. 8x10 GAS is easily cured by hiring one for a run of gigs and then schlepping it around and up/down stairs etc...
  14. I’ve built a couple of blueberries, and the LED clipping diodes are what make it fizzy, try replacing them with 1N4148s and doubling the value of the input cap from 47nf to 100nf or greater.
  15. Ampeg SVP’s preamp our into a Behringer deHummer box and then into my Laney SP300. I used to bridge the power amp to 300w at 8 ohms, but as my new cab is 4 ohms then I’m having to use it set to stereo and just use one channel. Still plenty loud enough at 150w at 4ohms though.
  16. Yes. I’m miffed off with myself if I need more than 2 or 3 takes. On the other hand I’ve had studio gigs where I’ve just jammed over tunes (at the producer’s request) so that they had enough to comp together for a samples and looped bass line. Depends on the project really.
  17. I’ve got a set of Dunlop flats in the same gauge on my ‘covers band’ bass and they’re great. Had them for a couple of years now and I’m still loving them. I’ve had super brights before though, and they were great too.
  18. Get a good P/J bass with a P profile neck, if that’s what you like.
  19. Right you are, Small Stone is a lovely phaser. Small Clone is a lovely chorus.
  20. Small clone does it for me. Cheap and cheerful, but does its job (2 bars of music per gig) admirably!
  21. There’s the potential for phase inversion when combining the same signal going through different effects chains too, does the LS2 have a phase invert button to correct this?
  22. Hotrox.co.uk have them for about a fiver each, or you could give ki0gon on here a bell, he makes solderless wiring looms that’ll just drop straight in.
  23. CTS pots are more expensive to buy, but will probably outlast your playing career. There’s a lot of cork-sniffing about ‘orange drop’ caps or ‘tropical fish’ caps etc... but any capacitor if 0.047uf will do. Small tantalum ones will have a code of 473 printed on it somewhere, a polyester box cap will have .047 printed on it. The bead ones have the advantage of being smaller (so they fit into the cavity much easier) and have longer legs, so they’re easier to bend into whatever shape you want.
  24. Unconnected. Try it without the red wire, just put some insulation tape over the end. have you got a multimeter to check the DC resistance of the pickups with the red connected to ground or hot?
  25. I’d put money on the unshielded wire being ground.
