same here. when i practice sitting down at home im not to bad with just my fingers but at gigs, standing up, i try but always revert back to the pick for 95% of our songs.
Funnily enough I'm completely the opposite. Always revert to my fingers but I will persevere.
  2.
OK I accept that but what do they base the charge on ... a Paypal invoice for example?
If it's been shipped then Rev&Customs will base the charges on the value the seller has declared on the shipping docs. You have to be careful here as this effects the insurance. Underdeclare and you will be under-insured. One thing is for certain, they are not stupid. I bought an amp on eBay for a very good price and Customs would not clear it until they had seen a copy of the Paypal invoice. If you are hand-carrying something back it is best to have the invoice receipt with you to prove value unless you are going to chance your arm. There are plenty of ideas here about how to try and dodge the duty.
  3.
My daughter lives in the US and we are going to visit early March so I was thinking about bringing back a bass with me, taking into account the VAT & duty I think it would be worth it (I travel light BTW). However I am thinking deeper. Looking at the classifieds on Talkbass I guess I will get a better deal with a used bass and am tempted to start making offers, getting it delivered to Phoenix to await my arrival and return. Anyone know where I stand on duty and VAT if I buy a used guitar and bring it back? Thanks in anticipation! Peter
There is no difference between new and used. You still have to pay.

  5. Does anyone have any experience of these?
  6.
I have the gator pedal power brick which has power leads with a sort of 3.5mm jack on one end, and the pedal end on the other, only i need two more cables and dont know where to get em, and gator dont seem to want to answer my emails? anyone?, perhaps OBBM im wondering?
This sounds the same as the adaptors I make for EH pedals but used the other way. Can you put a meter across a cable and see if the tip of the jack is connected to the outer of the 2.1mm (Boss type) on the other end? Also what length do you need. I can go up to 900mm. Also are the jacks straight or bent (right-angle)?
  7. I know we've seen this amp before but there really is no excuse for this sort of lack of attention to detail. Does it give you confidence in the emporium? I think not. 8. 25 gigs plus 2 x house band at local jam. The latter is going to become a regular monthly gig in 2008.
The reason I ask is that I bought a used Workingman pro15 combo just before Christmas. I have yet to crank it up as I am not rehearsing again until after the new year. I have heard that there is a difference between the pre-Fender and the Fender one's. Has anyone used both?, what if anything is different between the two?.
Some info here You could register and put your question there.
  12. Welcome and greetings from the other end of the Hogs Back.
  13. Yes I had a BMAX-T for a couple of years. Many of the popular tube pre-amps are are all based on the original Fender Bassman design and have the same EQ circuit with almost the same value components. These include the BMAX-T, Alembic F1X, Alembic F2X, Trace V-type (1U stand alone and the V4,V6,V8) and so on. This EQ allows you to boost-only treble and bass, and cut-only the mid. Because the EQ curves overlap there is an interaction between the three controls. As mentioned already, flat response is with the bass and treble on about 2 and with mid on 10. If you put all the controls at 12 O'clock then you get a conventional mid-scoop response. They all differ with regard to how their gain stages. The BMAX-T has a high gain first stage and this was it's problem, especially with an active bass, and with any degree of bass boost on the instrument. BBE after much pressure introduced a simple modification to lower the first stage gain. As jwbassman said I also swapped out the high gain 12AX7 for a much nicer Philips 5751. The one advantage that the BMAX-T has over all the others is the swept parametric controls which can be really useful in difficult situations. I hardly used the compressor so can't comment. The BBE process "did what it said on the tin" and cleaned and fattened up the signal although adjsuting it seemed to make little difference to the overall effect. I sometimes regret having sold my BMAX-T and given the chance might buy one again.

    Leads

Thanks for your comments and thanks to those who have bought during 2007. I try to offer a good product at a fair price. If anyone ever has a problem with a cable I have supplied through component failure then I will replace it without quibble.
I'd think twice about the Neutrik self muters! I got the angled variety and my guitarist got the straight and TBH both of them have a problem with the muting sleeve, as it jams into the body of the jack plug housing. Added to which when the lead is inserted into one of my basses the sprung muting sleeve forces the jack out of the socket, this is as much a problem of my jack socket as the plug but none of my other (non-muting) leads have this issue.
I agree with you about the muting connectors. Neutrik admitted that there were problems with an early batch of the straight connectors and I have replaced them for a few people and returned the faulty units to the manufacturers. I also have some problematic leads of my own with the right-angle type where the barrel sticks. I thought that it was dust or grit getting in there but a quick squirt with WD40 provides only a temporary fix and the problem returns again after a while. There again there are some people who have no problem with them. Very strange. If anyone gets a problem with a Silent jack that I have supplied then send it back with details of the problem. I will either swap it for a new one or for a non-muting jack FOC and take up the matter with Neutrik. BTW the new X-series non-muting right-angle jacks are very nice and somewhat smaller than their predecessors. As for the jack being pushed out, I would suggest that the spring-loaded tip contact is not locking the jack in place.

    New BGM
I'm confused - this thread wasn't there when I posted mine
That's very strange Alan. My BGM arrived in the post yesterday morning and I posted about it last night. never mind, more publicity ofr the mag and Nik.
  16. The Jan/Feb issue's Weekend Warrior is none other than our own "Silverfoxnik" Well done Nik. You're in some excellent company.
  17. I've used mine with an Alembic F1X/QSC-1602, BBE BMAX-T/QSC-1602, Ashdown ABM500EVO and an Epi UL502. The only set-up that gave problems was the BBE and there it was the first stage of the BMAX-T that was at fault as it had too much gain. I find it works best with the UL502, they after all designed to work together.

  19.
700 notes is how much in American? I'd always go for SVT myself. Why go for copies, when you can get the original?
About 1400 USD.
  20. Easy answer. It has to be this one. It's a Stray 5.
  21. Three years ago I had a major blow-up of my ABM500EVO at a Sunday rehearsal. It was just over a year after I bought it. I called Ashdown ffirst thing on Monday morning and they said send it back. It was back with me by Friday ready for an important gig at the weekend. 18 months later one of the knobs got broken off in the van. They sent me a replacement completely fee of charge. Excellent customer support. The ABM is now my back-up/Jam/any users amp and working faultlessly.
