You have to be careful here as this effects the insurance. Underdeclare and you will be under-insured. One thing is for certain, they are not stupid. I bought an amp on eBay for a very good price and Customs would not clear it until they had seen a copy of the Paypal invoice. If you are hand-carrying something back it is best to have the invoice receipt with you to prove value unless you are going to chance your arm. There are plenty of ideas here about how to try and dodge the duty.

Can you put a meter across a cable and see if the tip of the jack is connected to the outer of the 2.1mm (Boss type) on the other end? Also what length do you need. I can go up to 900mm. Also are the jacks straight or bent (right-angle)?

Yes I had a BMAX-T for a couple of years. Many of the popular tube pre-amps are are all based on the original Fender Bassman design and have the same EQ circuit with almost the same value components. These include the BMAX-T, Alembic F1X, Alembic F2X, Trace V-type (1U stand alone and the V4,V6,V8) and so on. This EQ allows you to boost-only treble and bass, and cut-only the mid. Because the EQ curves overlap there is an interaction between the three controls. As mentioned already, flat response is with the bass and treble on about 2 and with mid on 10. If you put all the controls at 12 O'clock then you get a conventional mid-scoop response. They all differ with regard to how their gain stages. The BMAX-T has a high gain first stage and this was it's problem, especially with an active bass, and with any degree of bass boost on the instrument. BBE after much pressure introduced a simple modification to lower the first stage gain. As jwbassman said I also swapped out the high gain 12AX7 for a much nicer Philips 5751. The one advantage that the BMAX-T has over all the others is the swept parametric controls which can be really useful in difficult situations. I hardly used the compressor so can't comment. The BBE process "did what it said on the tin" and cleaned and fattened up the signal although adjsuting it seemed to make little difference to the overall effect. I sometimes regret having sold my BMAX-T and given the chance might buy one again.

Neutrik admitted that there were problems with an early batch of the straight connectors and I have replaced them for a few people and returned the faulty units to the manufacturers. I also have some problematic leads of my own with the right-angle type where the barrel sticks. I thought that it was dust or grit getting in there but a quick squirt with WD40 provides only a temporary fix and the problem returns again after a while. There again there are some people who have no problem with them. Very strange. If anyone gets a problem with a Silent jack that I have supplied then send it back with details of the problem. I will either swap it for a new one or for a non-muting jack FOC and take up the matter with Neutrik. BTW the new X-series non-muting right-angle jacks are very nice and somewhat smaller than their predecessors. As for the jack being pushed out, I would suggest that the spring-loaded tip contact is not locking the jack in place.

I've used mine with an Alembic F1X/QSC-1602, BBE BMAX-T/QSC-1602, Ashdown ABM500EVO and an Epi UL502. The only set-up that gave problems was the BBE and there it was the first stage of the BMAX-T that was at fault as it had too much gain. I find it works best with the UL502, they after all designed to work together.

Three years ago I had a major blow-up of my ABM500EVO at a Sunday rehearsal. It was just over a year after I bought it. I called Ashdown ffirst thing on Monday morning and they said send it back. It was back with me by Friday ready for an important gig at the weekend. 18 months later one of the knobs got broken off in the van. They sent me a replacement completely fee of charge. Excellent customer support. The ABM is now my back-up/Jam/any users amp and working faultlessly.
