1. Excellent. That is a far better response than the one I got. All is now clear.
  2. I now have some nice Starquad cable, the same sort as we used in TV and Radio studios. It is very good for use in electrically noisy environments, like on stage, where there are lighting control cables, power cables, etc. I can do any length with XLR connectors. For example a 10-metre cable is £19.50 plus postage.
  3.
Interesting, Thanks OBBM. Just thought it was an important point to note as karlbbb is thinking about a DHA Preamp (IIRC all DHA stuff is Valve driven) with an Epi cab.
No, no, no!!!! Valve pre-amps are fine. I used an Alembic F1X and a BBE BMAX-T with a QSC and the UL310. You mustn't use Epi cabs with valve power amps or all-valve heads.
  4.
I want to get a P Bass, I like the sound of them but when I tried them out I just could not get used to the thicker neck. Any suggestions guys?
Do you mean neck width? If so, there are some 70's Fender Ps that were made with jazz necks as does the Squier P-bass Special. Also the Mexico P Special. The Aerodyne Jazz has a jazz neck and a P pick-up. The Fender experts will chime in soon. Then of course there is the Lakland Duck Dunn which is a P with a jazz neck.
  5.
I've heard that the Epifani stuff doesn't sound so good with Valve pre/power amps. Is that the case, do any of you run an Epi with a vlave amp?
It's not a matter of not sounding so good, they are not designed to work with low damping factor amps. They are short throw speakers designed for use with amps with a high damping factor and consequently tigh control, which valve amps can't do. Last year I asked Epi about using their cabs with a valve head. This was the response.
To answer your question about the speakers they are always custom made to our specs, that’s why they sound different. In order to use them with tubes they would have to be made differently. Tube amps generally have a different sound fat and round but not necessarily as responsive. The NYC cabs were not made for tubes either
.
  6. +1 for QSC. I ran a QSC PLX1602 bridged into a UL310 for a year without problem. It was excellent.
  7.
No???? Sorry for going off topic but this is good....
It's rather mundane really Nik. At the time I joined Bassworld in early 2003 I was playing for a band called Old Blue Moses so I decided my moniker should be Oldbluebassman. This quickly got abbreviated as usual to OBBM by the forum members and when the opportunity arose to re-register after a server crash I elected to be OBBM. I left that band at the end of 2005 having complained about being short-changed by £10 for a gig and being publicly fired by the band's singer. The name stuck. The story went about saying the band needed 2 vans to go to gigs. One for the kit and the other for the egos. There you are, very boring. Perhaps we should start a new thread about band firings.
  8.
But what does OBBM stand for or mean? 'Overlord Bass Bash Merchant' is my guess
You've never heard the story?
  9.
Who is this OBBM???? lol lol.... See you at the Bash Dave ;o)
Indeed you will!!!
  10. Due to unforseen circumstances this has had to be postponed until later in the year.
  11. I would think it is very unlikely that it would be a 12AX7/ECC83. Radios use the same physical profile valves such as the EF** series for the RF stages and ECLs for the audio stages. ECC83s are more likely to be found in old PA amps (Vortexion, Linear, Grampian) and some high-end hi-fi as well as guitar amps. The only sure way is to remove the valve and see what it says.
  12. If this is the one I think it is then it's a bit of a high class tart. I bought her from Walbasist and then sold her to Paul_C who sold her to .......... So what comes next Al.
  13.
Hi OB, I got mine off of ebay from this guy in the USA, thomasldh copy his name and paste it into ebay. I first saw these about 18 months ago and had to have one!! for the look alone.... I should point out that I am not really a bassist and I only started playing 2 years ago (wife said it was a mid life crisis) so anything I put round my neck feels like a scaffold board!!! but for looks I would rather have the Aerodyne round my neck than my USA Precision. Would be happy for you to have a bash on it if your ever in Watford.
Thanks for your comments. The reason for the post was to try and judge reaction as I'd bought one from a friend to help out his need for cash. It's now in the For Sale section. Like most things reaction falls into two camps. Love or hate. I have had a play with it and as you say it has a great neck. I need to try it through my rig to see about the pick-ups but using headphones it had a very wide tone range. Probably killer with some Wizards. The slab front doesn't bother me as my Ray is like that and my style is such that my forearm is not pressed into the bass so that wouldn't be a problem. I only bought is as a favour and I can't really justify keeping it. The finish is so good that I would be terrified of dinging it the first time out.
Here's another massive thumbs up for the great work done by OBBM. Dave has just provided me with a large quantity of very highly quality professional spec cables for my studio - they are fantastic & were supplied at a very reasonable price. And he's had to put up with me changing my mind about what I needed a dozen times! And he gave me some great advice on multicore... Need great cables? Go see OBBM - you'd be bloody daft to do anything else!!! VERY highly recommended.
It was a pleasure Jim and it gave me an opportunity to see your wonderful collection of basses. Wow.
  15.
These have always appeared quite attractive to me. What's the body wood and PUP spec on these?
As far as I am aware its a basswood body. The full spec must be Googleable.
  16.
Morning all, Could anybody point me in the right direction for a Hipshot, the last time I used them I had a fender with the old type machine heads, now I'm not sure which type of Hipshot is compatible with the new Fender machine heads, when I say new It's 2000 onwards. Cheers Jase
I would go directly to Hipshot. they have an om-line store and will ship to the UK. If you need advice on the right model I suggest you email Jason Ungleich [[email protected]].
  17. I bought this from a friend the other day who needed to raise some cash to buy a vintage Kawasaki (are they really that old?). His son is a bass player and he thought he ought to have one too. He bought it new a couple of years ago, only played it a few times at home so it is immaculate. I can't find a mark on it. It's the all black arch top export model, smoke hardware and I've just restrung it with a set of DR Sunbeams. Nice low action. It comes with a Warwick hard case. I might even throw in a nice cable with a Neutrik muting connector. I can't justify keeping it so it has to go. Looking for £380 or might be interested in trades. What have you got out there?
  18.
haha. well im getting a BG from beerdragon very soon so i can judge it from there. if i like the bass itself and not the pup i may change for an emg. and yes probs will take the controls off. i really don't need them. i had a DJ once upon a time when i had my EBS HD350 head and had a fairly clean tone. now im in a different band and i have a sunn 300t so im dirt now.
Will you sell me the Fralin?
  19. Has anyone got any views/experience about these please?
  20. Greetings.
  21. The lacquered neck on my pre-EB Stingray has always felt sticky after playing it for a while. It's almost as if there is some form of polish or coating that's coming off. I want to use it in anger again so the problem needs fixing. Any recommendations as to how to clean it without damaging the mojo?

    Owen - Feedback

I obtained two 5-string Laklands from this man. They were as described and well packed. In the words of Todd Snider he's an "Alright Guy"
  23.
Nice one Dave. is that a new PG? I do like the white pearl one but the Black Mirror looks different. whats it made of?
I got the black mirror first to replace the very bland white original. It's a very fragile plastic of some sort. I had to be very careful drilling it. Then after I'd has a white pearl on the DJ4 for a while I got to thinking that the same would look good on the DD. I must confess with the white pearl, the blocks and the white binding it looks a bit gaudy, but who cares cos' it sounds great.
