I have the schematics for the F1-X, Trace V-series, Fender Bassman, BBE-BMAX-T, Trace V8(yes it's different) and they are all much the same component for component. I'm just about to have a look into a Peavey Max pre-amp valve section which at a glance again looks very similar. The Alembic F2-B is quite different.

Most basses use the ring contact of a Ring/Tip/Sleeve jack socket to ground one side of the battery. If this contact has lost its tension, is worn, displaced or just plain dirty then there could be an intermittent or high resistance contact causing low or zero volts to the onboard electronics. This would become noticeable as the battery volts drop.

Have you tried swapping the wires over on one of the pick-ups? They may be out-of-phase and partially cancelling each other when both fully up.

Actually the 2-band is bass boost only and treble cut/boost. When he was designing his MM replacement 2-band pre-amp John East wrote an excellent description of how the circuit works for the old Dudepit. Regretably that no longer exists. Perhaps we could persuade him to write it again. If I remember the bass is desined to be boost only BUT because of the way the circuit works it gives the impression of bass cut and boost.

Go back and ask him for a set of chord charts.

Little Giant 2x500w would be a great amp for a Trace BFC.

If its a bog standard SR4 pick-up with 2 wires and no coils switching then there is no reason why it shouldn't be used in passive mode. I tried an SR5 like that (hard wired for parallel) and it was fine. It'll still have that distinctive Stingray tone but you'll have to tweak the amp some to get a real Ray sound.

When I bought this a few years ago it was advertised as having been made for Tom Hamilton. Root beer body and gold plated hardware. A couple of dings but otherwise excellent condition. It's not had a dard life and plays beautifully. Scratch plate is now back to the original black. Unfortunately I've never been able to prove it.

I finally bit the bullet and took out the Dark Star and fitted a Wizard Thumper. Call me old fashioned but I must say I like the sound and it's a joy to play. A P-bass with a super-slim jazz neck, unlike my '78 P with the broom-handle jazz neck. Before After In order to give the pick-up screws somewhere to bite I had to glue in a piece of wood to fill up the extra route for the DS so no going back. Anyone want to buy a Dark Star?
