1. Bah I'd love to play guitar for your project if you we're so far away! When you say Essex, where exactly? Cheers Alex
2. Well, luckily for me '86 is fairly recent so there's plenty out there. A nice Yamaha BB or Ibanez would be nice. Fenders were dreadful in the mid 80's so no thanks, but maybe something like a Squier? One day when I can afford to own more basses than I need to I'll get an '86 something! Truckstop
3. I see no problem. I sing BV's in my pub covers band (the only backing vocal) and sometimes I just sound too weedy on my own to make it worth doing. The choir backing in 'Forget You' and the "Sha la la la la la"'s in 'Brown Eyed Girl' sound so much thicker wIth a touch of harmoniser and reverb. I don't agree with it's use in the studio though. What's wrong with overdubbing with the harmonies? Truckstop
4. Very, very cool! You get to meet any of the Lindisfarne guys? Alex
5. Hello. Hate to ask, but want to be sure; so I'd need a power amp at 2ohms each side? Cheers Alex
6. Is this MIM or MIJ/CIJ? I've always loved the look of cowpokes but never been brave enough to buy one! Cheers Alex
7. And whereabouts are you based? It's a pain in the arse that the mobile version f the site doesnt show locations!! Cheers Alex
8. Cheers, bit too far for me for an awesome bargain! Good luck! Alex
9. Whereabouts are you based? Any trades at all? Cheers Alex
10. Cheap shoerack, paint black, cut down to size. Put some feet and corners on it and robert's your mothers brother. No need for Velcro, use cable ties between the slats to fasten the pedals down! How many pedals we talking about anyway? Truckstop
11. Yeah it's a right swizz! They say they do a 5 string p, but it's got jazz pups with a P pickguard. Not cool. Is it really that hard to stick a 5 string P pup in there? Truckstop
12.
Pretty much anything from Ibanez, Yamaha or the Squier VM and CV series are solid choises, great build quality and great sounds, not just for starting off but more advance playing and long term use. I can personally suggest the Yamaha BB414 or the Yamaha RBX374, there should be plenty of them s/h.
You need to listen to what this guy says. Any of the aforementioned instruments you should be able to get for around £175 and are guaranteed to be awesome! Truckstop
13. No cab at present, I borrow a mates old Torque combo which is fine but really not good enough for gigs! So the Harley Benton looks like a winner then! Cheers Alex
14. @Milton Yeah I'd love a blank if there's one going begging! Of course I'll pay for it, PM if you go ahead with the plan. I refuse to pay £55 or whatever it is from tone tech! Anyway, the jazz looks great! A small detail, but my favourite bits are the tuners. Very cool! Alex
15. Well. 4x10's are awesome value for money right now because they're so unfashionable. You can get just as much volume and bass with a well designed 2x10, 1x15 or 2x12 cab which are almost always lighter and smaller. If you don't mind lugging stuff around, second hand Peavey cabs are (IMO) faultless. Great build quality, easily repairable and great tone all the time. Plusses are that they've very very cheap. You can get a great quality one for less than £100. This leaves you lots of money to get a great head (which in my opinion is where most of your noise comes from). £400 will get you something small, light, ultra flexible (pre/post EQ DI, headphone sockets, aux in etc). Honestly, it's best to look around! Personally I'd be looking at Markbass, EA amps or Gallien Krueger. The other side of things is valves and lots of them. Old PA heads like Selmer turn up on eBay all the time but weigh a tonne. Lovely rich valve tone though. Ashdown Little Bastard and Orange Terrorbass 500 are also within budget. Really, just get out there and try everything. With £500 I wouldn't much about the cab, I'd concentrate on buying a head that will stay with me for a long time. Hope this helps! Alex
16. What a beaut! I don't tend to go for super-jazzes but that is lovely. It's weird, but I like the layout of the knobs and it's got a lovely red that really appeals to me. I keep perving over the pics and have done for a while now. I wish I wish I wish I had some cash! You open to payment plans? Alex
17. Yeah but it looks awesome. Truckstop
18. Hello all, Looking to substantiate my guitar rig with a 2x12 cab (I play without PA support) on a budget. I'd like to buy new so these appear to be the options available to me at the moment! Any user experience or thoughts would be gratefully received! Cheers Alex
19. Should all fit on a pedaltrain mini. I wonder why you think you need to bypass the chorus? I can only think that you'd like to turn the EQ and the XXL on and off at the same time? Personally I don't think that it's worth having a looper on a pedal chain that small but maybe if you're thinking of expanding your setup eventually then it never hurts to have one! Truckstop
20. A little bump! Sorry I've failed to get pics up, been very busy! Alex
21. I've had to do a few dep gigs recently and always use my BDI-21 and a set of IEMs. I can carry it all in my gigbag, and in a situation you're not familiar with (or rather, playing with a band already set in their ways) it's minimum fuss and cheap. Truckstop
22. I think a touch of flange or chorus? Don't forget to use a precision too! Truckstop
23. Terrible. Because I couldn't find a guitarist for my party band, I've had to dust off all my old stuff and learn loads of guitar parts. Not happy at all. I hate playing guitar! Guitar parts for party tunes are nonexistent. All the keyboard parts are tracked so I'm just playing root chords and it's boring! We'll be advertising for a bassist soon, and I sincerely hope we don't find one because I secretly hope we'll find a guitarist instead! Truckstop
