In all seriousness, I used to get a similarish size setup in a Fiat Scudo (only choose something better).
Ah useful! My dad reckons he can get me a Scudo in good nick for not much money (he has connections!) so was hoping someone would say! Any reason why you advise not to get one? Was also looking at minibuses because I can leave seats in just in case we all need to bugger off somewhere far away! Any thoughts on that anyone? Cheers for everyone's help so far!

Around 20% if you get caught I think. Still a saving of 30% on a brand new pedal! Don't forget, they offer free delivery too! Truckstop

Hello all, Looking at vans for lugging around PA, backline, drums and lighting rig. Seems to me that something like a Transit or Convoy is a little too big. Would the Transit Connects and Peugeot Experts of the world be big enough? Cheers Alex

My Top Ten Most Played Songs by Pub & Function 'Covers' Bands.
Truckstop replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Getting some great ideas from this thread! My band plays 2 from the OP, but also many other obvious standards like Shakin' All Over, Valerie and Forget You. Some of the more weird ones are: You're So Vain - Carly Simon (gets a great singalong from the ladies) Call Me The Breeze - JJ Cale version (good chance to introduce the band with some nice solos from everyone) I Shot The Sheriff - Eric Clapton version Back To Black - Amy Winehouse (another one for the ladies) I find that any relatively well known song gets a good reaction as long as it's played with conviction and it's performed at a sensible point in the set. I once saw a band play Don't Fear The Reaper; a song that I used to regard with an almighty yawn. But the band played it so well, and sounded so good doing it and really enjoyed playing it and it had a great vibe about it which was infectious. Of course you wouldn't play that song at the arse end of the last set, but songs like that certainly have their place! Truckstop -
Fackin' hell! Hasn't checked the site yet, hopefully got a Trelicopter on the way! Truckstop Edit: yep, Trelicopter on the way and chose the free shipping option too! (takes 15-25 days though ) great pedal at a good price I think!

Amp and speaker config advice needed
Truckstop replied to Stephen Houghton's topic in Repairs and Technical
Basically, The head will send 250w of power to eachcab provided that the cabs are rated at 8ohms each. The 1x15 will cope fine, and the 4x10 will struggle if you turn up too much. The main problem with mixing cabs like that, is that the 1x15 potentially might not get enough power to sound good, and the 4x10 will have too much power going through it making it sound like it's being pushed too hard. Potentially! Provided you keep the volume at a responsible level and both the cabs are 8ohms, then you shouldnt notice any problems. Good luck! Truckstop -
D'oh! Gonna miss this one I'm playing Oxjam in Reading in the afternoon, then gotta spend the rest of the day shlepping up to Birmingham for a function. Break a leg! Truckstop

Jacques received this awesome bass off me in a trade (ESH is doing very well by the way!) and was very easy to deal with. Excellent communication and great English speaker. He's based in central Paris so it'll have to be shipped. I sent the TRB to him using Interparcel and it cost me £17 (I fudged on the weight a little) but whoever you go with should cost less than £20. Anyway, can vouch for the bass and the seller both! Cheers Alex

Er, do nothing. Sold as seen I think. What can you be expected to do? Where does it end? You pay through the nose for a new neck or a set-up? He saw the videos and the photos and made an informed decision to buy it. I reckon, his missus saw it, shouted at him and told him to return it and get his money back. Truckstop

My thoughts exactly. @lfalex

Couldn't agree more, Wayne!

I actually used to work in the St. Albans Robert Dyas (Bobby Dies we used to call it)! Yeah, you're all pretty much confirming what I was thinking already (except for Nigel; thanks again for your thoughts ). I've got the rest of my life to work at being a credible musician; what's wrong with selling out a little to make some decent money while I'm young? Thanks everyone! Alex

Decision one: Join a professional functions/cruise/party band. Excellent money, good band, management and contacts all sorted. Essentially the legwork's all been done. However, I'm not a massive fan of the material and I'd need to play guitar. Decision two: Develop current band into a professional cruise/corporate band. I'd get a say in the material, dress code, more money, and I'd get to play bass (which is always preferable). However, we'd be starting from ground zero. So far our biggest show has been at a beer festival for £400 (between 5). So, a lot more risky. Help please!!! Alex Edit: I'm 25 and work in the pub trade so I won't be losing a lot whatever happens!

Ibanez SR (avoid GIO range!) or Yamaha RBX. Why don't you want to go for a fiver? The RBX with DiMarzios for sale on here at the moment for £185 (I think) would be perfect! Truckstop

Well the thing is is we don't want a dep; we're after a family member who will stay with us for a long time as we build up our show and take it all over the place! We need someone that's willing to invest a lot of time and money turning this into a business. Can't do that with deps! Maybe in few years when we can afford to pay awesome drummers £150 a night then we'll risk deps, but at the moment, £50 a night doesn't get you very much! Anyhoo, we're auditioning a few tonight and we'll see what comes of them! Hopefully they can at least drive and own their own drumkit! Truckstop

Bassicbits. Also try FMCables. More expensive, but really really good! They use a type of cable that doesnt get twisted up or dirty and are excellent quality. Got a link in my signature if you're interested. Truckstop

Also I've had drummers in the past lie about their practice. They say they practice every day, when really they haven't even got their kit out the back of the van all week! Well it's a pain in the arse any way you look at it. We can't offer £100+ a gig (but we gig 5-6 times a month) so we're looking for an enthusiastic amateur and there are none about. At least none with any sort of skill level. Truckstop Trucksop
