1. I think you are actually certifiable.
2. No I think separate threads is fine. Easier to manage and is it really that hard to deal with skipping past a few 'for sale' threads? Anyway, good luck with your sales and good luck with your emigration also! Could I also ask for more detail as to what the mod to this pedal does please? Cheers! Alex
3. Hello all, Looking at getting some mics for my PA rig and struggling to understand exactly what is suitable for my needs. What's a condenser microphone? What does cardiod mean? Why do I see mics that can be used for snare and toms? Wouldn't they require different types? What is a windshield? For the vocals I have a couple of SM58's. I need to mic a kit and I'd like to have some mics suitable for guitar and keyboard amps too. Cheers!! Alex
4.
From 2.20 it sounded like a one man band falling down stairs.
Ha ha! Made me lol a little. Truckstop
5. There's a brand out there called Ekho. Seems ok for the money. Have a quick search on eBay, I remember seeing a pack of 4 cans on a T-bar with a stand for £99. Don't suppose you can go much wrong? Truckstop
6. I actually think the bass itself looks alright. The case is revolting though. Looks it was designed by Peter Stringfellow for Jimmy Saville. Truckstop
7. Unbearably sexy! My one gripe with super-p's is that 4 knobs is just too many! What's wrong with stacked controls to tidy it up a little? Gorgeous though. Very jealous! Truckstop
8.
Adding bass to chords often spoils everything by rooting the harmony in the most bland way and often destroying interesting chord sequences and harmonic colours. It really is the most unnecessary instrument of all. I'm convinced!
My thoughts exactly! Luckily I play the wrong notes all the time anyway
9. I don't give a sh*t if bass is disappearing from regurgitated manufactured tripe. There's a thousand musicians out there making incredible music out there and the bass is the most prominent instrument going! Look at young guys like Tom Vek, Willy Moon and Bruno Mars and they're really pushing bass forward. Kids develop their listening tastes as they grow up; they start out at 10-13 listening to MTv and then as they look to develop their identity, they pick up on 'proper' music. That's where they really start to understand how music works and why some songs sound good and others sound sh*t. As for the whole 'phasing out bass for mobile phone speakers' thing? I don't know, I want to see some citations! Truckstop
10. Hear hear
11. Having been in a similar situation myself, I would say that you should grow some balls (not in a bad way!) and just vocalise your concerns andale sure that the band know that this level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable to you. Offer some solutions to the problems you have identified. For example, get the guitarists amp pointing at his head which should help the volume issues. Also suggest some earplugs for everyone to help negate the effects of hearing fatigue. There's no point in criticising the band without offering some sort of solution to the problems. Don't do this by email. You'll come across as whiny and condescending. Do it at band practice because then the band can see how serious you're being. Also, try to think of direction you'd like the band to go in. I left my band because I wanted us to try and hit the functions Market by upping our professionalism levels; they said they did, but didn't follow through. Offering an ultimatum is a way of showing them that you take the band seriously and you're only going to continue taking it seriously if everyone else is pulling in the same direction. Either way, it's important (I think) that your honour and integrity remains intact! Do the right thing and give them a chance!
12. If anyone ever wants to get to grips with what GK are about, they need to buy this combo. The RB range of amps are awesome; Loads of volume, grit, clarity and great construction. Paired with the top of the range RBH cab it really is an awesome bit of gear. If I didn't already have an MB210, I'd be after this. I think the price is just fine. Stick to your guns, someone will see what a bargain this is eventually! Truckstop
13. Nope, can't do it. It's far too nice to get rid of! I'll have to raise some cash another way. Withdrawn. Alex
14. Stuff like Dakota (Stereophonics) and Sex On Fire (Kings of Leon) are great for developing your picking technique and great for timing too. Slightly more complex, but should help teach you a little about groove and rhythm, are Brown Eyed Girl (van Morrison) and Gimme Some Lovin' (Blues Brothers). Keep a diary of new songs you learn and keep notes. These will help as you're learning and help to develop a sort of riff library in your head. Keep us updated with your progress!! Alex
15. Pricedrop! Don't forget, trades for Precisions! Thanks Jacques! ^ Alex
16.
Regardless of the Blink 182 association, it's one of the only ways of getting an affordable, off the shelf bass with the body of a jazz and the sound and neck of a precision. So if you're looking for a jazz neck, the hoppus isn't for you. I think the blacktop jazz bass has a jazz body/neck with two sets of p-bass pickups so maybe that would suit you better.
Oops, I meant jazz body/p neck!! Truckstop
17. That is the first Gibson bass I've ever liked! Not keen on the down-tick headstock though, looks weird without the up-tick one. Id still buy one though, can't wait til second hand ones crop up for sale. Truckstop
18. Those black dots look lovely on that fretboard. Like the pup covers also, a very pretty instrument! Truckstop
19.
heres all my stuff
Bloody f***ing love those 'Jetkings'. The only basses I have ever seen anywhere that give me actual pangs of jealousy! Truckstop
20. I used to have one and loved it but after a while I started to miss having a tone control. On paper, the only reason to think to own one is for the Blink 182 connotations; otherwise just go out and get a precision with a jazz neck! Mine had a lovely sound and looked great (salmon pink with an aftermarket mint p'guard), but sometimes I just like being able to fiddle with the tone! Truckstop
21. You may aswell buy a big rig second hand and not have to worry about upgrading in a few months. Peavey cabs are very highly regarded. Great tone and great value for money; but with it comes great weight and bulk. If size and weigh isn't a problem, then go for it! You can pick one up for £75-£125 easy peasey! Amps however are a slightly different kettle of fish. Again, you can't go wrong with Peavey. I've seen Peavey Firebass 700's go for £100 and they are awesome amps! Hartke is also a good brand to look out for. The LH350 and LH500 can be got for less that £200. Have a look around, and if you see something you're not sure of, start a thread here and we'll give you an honest opinion. There are a few combos worth getting. Ashdown make decent 2x10 combos that go for around £250 second hand and they'll have enough grunt for a rock band. Gallien Krueger used to make an RB400iv combo. If you can score one of those, you're laughing! Truckstop
22. Hello all, Need to buy a Precision so selling my recently acquired ESH Jazz. Made in Germany to an extraordinarily high standard, this bass features ESH's own famed piezo bridge pup and electronics. The bass is passive and also has a phase switch installed (I think of it as a bright switch though). Controls go: neck pup volume, bridge pup volume, piezo volume and tone control. The piezo is simply incredible; sounds exactly like a double bass. Shame it's not fretless really! Plenty of output here and a really nice sweep on the controls. A nice little touch is recessed control knobs. Not sure what brand the pickups are, theres very little information on the Internet about this one. No serial number, and no identifying marks save for the ESH logo on the headstock. I'm far too scared to take them out and have a look! There's nothing like this in the ESH website, so I'm guessing it's either an old one (certainly has the dings and playing wear to support that hypothesis) or a custom build. 9.5lbs on the scales, 34" scale on the tape measure. Also, it's currently strung E-C, I'm sure B-G offers no problems at all. It'll come with a lovely hardcase. I live in St. Albans. Collection preferred so you can try it out, delivery at buyers expense. Also happy to deliver myself if you're not too far away. Trades only for Fender Precision basses! Sunburst preferred, other colours considered. Pictures in the morning, on the phone at the moment! Cheers Alex
23. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I'm slighty annoyed actually because a simple GK combo isn't really worth posting up on here is it? Ha ha Truckstop
24.
No what I'm saying is that I'm seriously worried about the financial health of a company that considers investing time and money in such a poorly thought out instrument. The La Bella strings that I use are already hard enough to come by in this country - last time I enquired of their distributor one of the sets I wanted had been discontinued and the other was out of stock with a least a month's wait before any more would be available. I'm just covering myself so I won't be completely disappointed when the strings I like to use are no longer available.
Ah, I see. Apologies! So out of curiosity, which strings do you like to use? I'm perfectly happy with the bog-standard stainless steels! Truckstop
25. Buy a lighter bass, a wider strap and get some lessons to learn correct wrist position. A poor right hand technique can affect your entire uppe body due to having to overcompensate and put yourself in odd positions. Try yoga and pilates (I get a lot of aches from playing rugby, pilates helps big time!) and don't forget to warm up before gigs and rehearsals! No offence, but at your age everything needs to be done carefully. My mother recently turned 54 and she struggles with knitting now; I've put her onto a good yoga therapist to help with her knitting posture. Hope you feel better soon! Alex
