  1. Yes I do. It appears to be in its designed position. The bass is a rather battered Vox White Shadow; the top horn is pointed and I'd be quite uneasy about putting the button there. The bass does have some neck dive. I'm thinking of sidestepping the whole problem by adding a strap rail instead, a bent-up aluminium strip attaching at the two button locations and extending the upper position up the neck (with some padding to stop it scarring the back of the body). It wouldn't be terribly pretty, but it's not a terribly pretty bass.
  2. I have a bass with a strap pin on the back of the body. I'd like to replace it with a straplock, but not something which digs into my beergut. What's the lowest-profile straplock I can get? Thanks
  3. Thanks, gentlemen. A BBOT would be adequate for my first hack at it - I foresee this being one of those things which I spend far too much money on for very little practical return, and my ignorance means it will probably require a couple of goes.
  4. I have a project in mind. Can I use a six-string guitar bridge for a bass, or do basses need a different design (weight, strength, size, ...)? Thanks in advance
  5. Maybe it's just me? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266841131451?itmmeta=01HZD20Z2QS163J5DPR3EANT8X&hash=item3e20f889bb:g:MGAAAOSwTyJmXC9Z
  6. I haven't run across these before. Looks to be a cut above the fairly basic ones which pop up now and again. (Also an interesting feedback entry, if anyone reads them.) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226170883704?itmmeta=01HZ7XZDTMXKR84NFXQP6S053K&hash=item34a8d5ce78:g:tYMAAOSwFIVmWe1Z
  7. Perhaps he's trying to sell to someone he already knows, but it has to look like a random punter? Which probably means he's not really selling.
  8. The necks on these are fab; wide and flat. They make good defrets, too.
  9. It's medicine, it's not supposed to taste nice
  10. I've also been recommended cherry juice (or just black cherries) to stave off an attack. But some people only ever get one attack of gout anyway.
  11. My father's second wife trained as a ballet dancer and had fairly nasty arthritis issues by her 40th birthday. She swore by a teaspoon of cider vinegar daily.

Many thanks to Pete; he's one of the good guys. Pete gave me some flatwounds; delivered very fast, and wouldn't even accept postage for them.
  13. Hi Adrian What's the width at the nut, please? Looks as if it might be fairly chunky.
  14. I don't usually like 'bursts much, but that looks lovely. It's a shame I don't get on with the deeper body. GLWYS!
  15. I bought Joel's bass uke. All went nicely (he even agreed to post it), and here is happy feedback to prove it. Thanks Joel
  16. Good thought, but not an option, for reasons too complicated to explain. Thanks.
  17. I have four sets of short-scale (30" scale, 760mm) roundwounds, bought second-hand a decade ago when I had something which probably fitted them - I never got round to it. The Rotosounds, the La Bellas and the Newtones appear to be stainless steel. The Optima Golds are, um, gold? I don't know what the actual metal is. They've all been opened; the Rotosounds and the Newtones have never been fitted; the La Bellas have been partly fitted (2 never fitted); the Optima Golds are cut 2+2 and there is some wear to the silks. I have little idea how to price these so my preference is to sell them as a job lot. £75 for the lot, posted, within the UK (outside the UK, let me know but probably there would be tariffs). PayPal without charges (preferred), or bank transfer.
  18. Kiddie trailer is the method I've arrived at after the helpful comments above. It's not that far indeed. I'm not in a position to do it at the moment (shoulder issues and recovering from a fairly major op), but by the time I've sorted the bike etc. out it should be OK. We'll see.
  19. I've wanted one of these for ages, didn't buy one when they were available easily, and can't justify it now this one's come up. Bah! GLWYS!

    bell emulation

Free form. Live play will follow, probably.
  21. Seldom wise, on a pushbike.
  22. Given it's less than two miles, I'm not hugely worried. But yes, point taken.

    bell emulation

A church bell or hand bell. Something a bit less cracked than the Black Sabbath bell, but that sort of bell.
  24. Good thought, but no, sadly.
