Defret a favourite neck or buy a fretless neck?
alyctes replied to Grooverjr's topic in General Discussion
That's the one. It deserved more playing than I was giving it, poor thing. -
It might not be AI, but that's how it reads; "these are the things which are part of bass guitars", with no conception of a corporate style, just a random assemblage of features.

Hard to see fretless fret-line markers. Seeking a solution.
alyctes replied to Steve_M's topic in Repairs and Technical
Black tape and Tippex. Works for me. (My band-mates may disagree. I couldn't possibly comment.) There are two tricky bits: Lying the tape accurately along the edge of the board, and marking the lines. The Tippex I get comes with a wedge-shaped foam brush, so you can put an accurate line on with it - buy a new bottle. Doesn't affect the bass itself; if you want to return it to original, it's just a matter of taking the tape off. -
Ciarán bought strings from me. Good communications, prompt payment, let me know when they'd arrived. I'd be pleased to deal with him again. Thanks!

Today Kim dug me out of a hole I made for myself, and I am very grateful. I really need to check that I can actually use the contact numbers people give me *before* I start on long journeys... Thanks, Kim. I owe you one.

I've got one. Not really my taste; I much prefer its cheaper cousin, the Standard.

I don't think I've ever seen that advanced as a reason before... "The upper body horn has been shortened to prevent neck dive during live performances." Um, what?! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/326418943134?itmmeta=01JJHQ4DGQ4F5NKCCBDEVWN74G&hash=item4c0015cc9e:g:UNUAAOSw13dnljBL&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwCodCO1vSDjg2xNOt8By6oCstqPg90z%2FTYt6I5XkaiBKBiYXmC4HbNaYj7FRS1JimcTulcXw6ChWIU%2F15JZJkI4--53qaaMSW%2BJAF8och3TzfdUg01FolKPsTxaXAPd2fZckSHubNP4KTA5rpXuNIQsXX%2BcjoasyWgJHEeJJv5InJ35DhNQiW5plHgSyYLlbLzzxKwEyXrVeaPvCJukDiIU%2BArFQjZDBf2e3xBOeiVLU1xMUAFFbxdoFmeJDlrJVQA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR77YkbeUZQ

I bought a gig bag from Andy. Nice guy, all as advertised, and his feedback here speaks for itself. I'd be happy to deal with him again. Cheers Andy

Never seen one of these before. I have to say, I'm not that sorry... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256782077282?itmmeta=01JHJSPNXNFSVX2V66W7X4WEF5&hash=item3bc9678d62:g:mscAAOSw2VtnhT4E&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4CodCO1vSDjg2xNOt8By6oCYFSMWSBY4OSKR%2FCmJiMn7iQ67Xt%2FaB5%2FjjvFXYlYGfXL60oK427nNElFSGv5Ft%2BqlYdHRbBVSkj1mmlqce4USsH9Cr%2FPnBq3kYkmy2bQLPL6Vp7IhmwWRXcW0oH5QinJHjLQDcCwFBStNeAsX6NMnreBHIUjaeNH0aWu3%2Bveq3nmNuk5qpKUMNagzNXcrRAhlb9trGyoRmUrPKn%2BT9vuhZpfKrAnA9PWA9tuBFhPp8zTIeTxi7PqkT%2B6rse57mx7thgGDy7ihKX5w2l%2ByQ9Ic|tkp%3ABk9SR_re2tmMZQ

Hi. I've been wondering off and on about this. I'm thinking that a certain eBayer Who Shall Not Be Named would benefit from one, for instance. Do these exist? I've had a desultory poke about on eBay and found nothing. Allparts do this but it's not really what I'm thinking about https://www.allparts.uk.com/collections/miscellaneous-tools/products/tuner-pin-drill-jig

Same. Not conventional, but it has a certain something, for sure.

The bass is not very interesting, through no fault of its own, but damn that looks odd. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196914147733?itmmeta=01JG6V2JJZ0YEZ4S0Q4RSS97QY&hash=item2dd8ff7195:g:2uwAAOSw9gRnbdf-&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwMxmj%2BiGvOveHXEBClPb29gyb0L%2BGLNvGkQLQEuWd8NUBoST47PQCjHvOQHtHyvh467%2FDMQ%2F%2BDBHKgZIwFQK2NlMZpdxzPx9yPJfiYAVpHRfHAAIpxwEuu%2FL23%2FIy9gw6DARt%2FOpqB3CZ9OmQVr948bAqaOwZl0Ligr0GSGM6fbg3owZaJw7hsJSl6xVpEHywSGc%2FSW16%2Fn%2BXm7Zi8ew18swUkkk3TVmFZrZp4UBslERGuOuMdydqwOQEnMWXMJDRA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8ypituBZQ

Three pictures for this... only 1500 euros. It might well be a great bass, but someone needs to work on their advertising skills. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156440495251

That wonky tuner and the asymmetry of the headstock end is the reason I suspect an accident.
-
Looks as if the J pickup has an earth strap running to the loom (or it might have all the wiring there). I'd definitely want to be asking about that. I'll guess the headstock has been bodged after an accident. Though given the tuners, that might be deliberate?

If there's a reappraisal, the prices will go up...
