Matt Sorum of Guns N Roses/The Cult/Velvet Revolver, I just love the attack that he gets on the kit, plus he’s rock solid in his playing.

Up until last year the words of No 14 would have been alien to me as it was hit hard at all times relentlessly, but I`ve been learning - after 40 years of playing - to back off a bit and let the amp make the volume rather than me, and have really enjoyed it, makes learning newer complex material a lot easier. My fave on the list is No 6, many a time I see bands where they have great players on either guitar or bass but I just wonder, why did they choose that sound for that band.

I love the feel of nickels, with the most comfortable nickels I`ve found so far being Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, which die too quickly, and Elixirs. But I just prefer the sound of steels, and am really liking Elixir steels at present.

We did that too, enabled us to take many opportunities that bands which split the money at the end of the night & went on the fosters couldn’t.

Agree, and it always seems to be music venues/shops/areas that are chosen as the casualties in the name of this “progress”.

Further on from my earlier post, my old band are still writing material and are looking at buying recording equipment so as to get stuff worked on properly before going into the studio. I suppose it’s all down to the individuals at the end of the day, some see and take an opportunity to work further, which I dare say is more likely in an originals band as there’s more of a goal there.

My US 2015 Fender Precision. I’ve done so much with that bass, recorded the last three albums, did my first Rebellion Festivals, first European Tours. It has so much sentimental value that I won’t gig it or take it out of the house as I’d be heartbroken if it got nicked. Here it is (and me) in action at Rebellion:

It is strange that when the masses are angry about something their way to make it right is destroying other hard working people property, not to mention the inevitable stolen trainers & widescreen TVs that come with that. Poll tax, police brutality, you name it a new pair of Nikes and a 56 incher makes it all better.

It sounds to me like a problem, I have an Ashdown 15 watt combo with an eight inch integral speaker and with all eq at noon it’s too loud to have on max volume with a passive Jazz bass, wouldn’t be considerate of my neighbours. It’s in my spare room, approx 10ft x 10ft.

Always had good experiences when visiting Wunjos. A bit meh re BD, no attitude or anything, in fact nothing at all, no acknowledgement or can I help you which in some - make that many - respects is better than over eager pushy salespeople, but given they’re a bit off the beaten track I’d have thought you’re only there for a specific reason, rather than just passing through and popping in to pass time.

For me the main issue that I’ve found is the not being able to return to the Romford branch, a situation that hasn’t been brought about by the B word.

Re Darkglass, not sure about the pedals but the bassist of The Cockney Rejects uses one of their amps and doesn’t get the typical metal tone at all, more like a regular bass amp sound so I’d assume the same can be achieved with the pedals.

I’m the same, my 2015 US Precision is the bass I feel most comfortable and familiar with, unfortunately the Precision sound is a bit too full for my current band so it’s taking a back seat at present.

I’ve practiced a lot more. A lot of this is to do with having a new band/project so want to keep on top of the much more difficult material that we play, but I’ve also learned a fair few songs that I’ve always liked but either never had the time to learn or didn’t have the confidence to have a go at. Luckily as the material for the new band is more complex it’s given me more faith in my abilities and so far I’ve been ok with them. So yes, these lockdowns have helped me become a better bassist.
