  2. That’s my choice, they suit my voice better than an SM58 as not quite as “middy”. Ideal, they sound good and are cheap as chips so not a disaster if they get damaged.
  3. Similar for me, I found that Ashdown cabs gave me the coloured sound I was after, in conjunction with my trusty Tech21 Para Driver.
  4. I’d say for anyone intending on playing in a band with drums have 300 available watts on hand into either a 1x12 or 2x10. You might not need all of that but better to not be pushing an amp as they can sound a bit rotten if pushed beyond capabilities.
  5. I’d take a look at the Vintage brand, their basses are much better than the price tags would suggest. I used to read up from pro players who said “I used to play so-and-so brand but now only play my Vintage” and think it was a paid marketing ploy. I then bought one of their Tony Butler Precisions as a backup and found it was the nearest bass in sound and feel I could get to my US Fender. From an instrument that’s a fifth of the price.
  6. Nice one, glad I could help
  7. Having had Ampeg PF500, Ashdown RM500 and Orange Bass Terror 500 I’d put them in that order for volume. That said who knows if that’s because the pots are set up to look that way, I know Ashdown set theirs so the volume increases all the way round (so not cheating) to the end. Who knows about the others but out of the three the PF500 although not quiet just didn’t seem “loud” even when it was sitting perfectly in the mix at the right volume, but then that’s an Ampeg thing imo, sitting perfectly in the mix with a Precision.
  8. Bassdirect are currently showing that gauge in stock Danny, or at least they’re not marked up Out of Stock like most of the other gauges. From what I’ve read they’re now going to be back sending them out which is great as my preferred gauge is 45-100 and not been able to get them all this year.
  9. Good point Stew, when the younglings at work talk about R&B I tell them I liked that in my youth and play them some Dr Feelgood - you should see their faces 🤣
  10. I’ve gone for yes they were, based upon what they were doing at the time when they were doing it. Of course now we all say they were classic rock but did that label exist at the time when they were doing Smoke on The Water?
  11. Although I’ve found that me & Stingrays aren’t that good a match they’ve sounded best to me with Ernie Ball Super Slinky’s on them.
  12. There’s an ABM combo on here at present, and a thread which includes details about a bloke who delivers safely & reliably, in case said ABM is too far away.
  13. As much as I love Ashdown and will recommend their gear all day every day I’d probably pick up a used Rumble combo, see if it works for me, if not then move it on after having identified the areas/aspects where for me it was lacking.
  14. Many people seem to rave about the Sires, similarly with the Yamahas. Have to be worth a look.
  15. Edge did a darn good job on bvs as well, to be honest I thought he was better than Bonio who’s pitch was fluctuating a bit
  16. Just watched a very interesting clip from The Tube in 1883 where AC is playing guitar on a song called 40, as well as playing chords he was doing harmonics etc. Im sure that the haters will say it’s cos the bass line in that song was too difficult….
  17. Thankfully I don’t have a washing lube or that would be added to the list. You’re right it doesn’t matter, but it would bug me rotten until I’d dealt with it.
  18. You are very fortunate, CDO (I have to put the letters alphabetically) is a rotten affliction for some of us.
  19. After years of 110s & 105s I now use 45-100s. I find these match with a Precision better due to the pickup placement, having the thinner E & A, and thinking about it yes, the thinner E does fit better sound wise. With most strings it always seemed the A, D & G sounded like part of the same gang with the E being a new prospect that was nearly in the gang but not quite.
  20. That’s exactly what I did with my Para Driver @Tech21NYC, enabled me to always have my sound irrespective of what amp I was using, made gigging so much easier combined with always being able to be certain of having a great sound. Great pedal btw, am surprised more bassists haven’t found out about them.
  21. I had one of their Tony Butler Sig Precisions and it was a very good bass indeed. Well put together, played and sounded great. Out of all of the more budget range basses I’d tried in order to find a backup to my US Fender Precision it was the nearest in both neck size and sound. I got mine cheap (though spent a fair bit on it afterwards) but £50 is an absolute steal. Vintage imo make very under-rated instruments.
  22. Probably is, Orange gear is very heavy, I’ve had Ampeg & Eden 410s of similar weight, and Peavey TVX 410s are/were probably heavier still.
  23. Def, I’m sure if I end up gigging again my Ashdown RM500 and one ABM PRO-NEO 210 would be enough but the ABM600 and both 210s will get the gig!
  24. Looks great Rog, I’ve always found the same re Stingrays and likewise wondered if the HH config might sound more “me”. And now it looks like you’ve found the answer, which will set me on a quest no doubt.
  25. Must admit I always go for Roqsolid covers but for what @BassAgent is looking for Hotcovers fit the bill better imo. The padded pvc/leather cover would be ideal.
