  1. It would probably have required a full rebuild of my personality at the time but I do wish I'd been more inclined to practice my DB when I was 15-18, instead of just doing enough to get by what my teacher gave me. Ended up as a big fish in the small pond of the local authority schools orchestras, and promptly got eaten when I got the chance to venture outside it.
  2. Yeah fair enough, he's got such a distinctive style I guess I thought the bass might also be distinctive. He probably sounds like himself on any bass though. Anyway, it looks very nice and it's nice to see him getting wider recognition.
  3. Hanks, but no hanks
  4. It's nice but isn't it just a regular BTB spec but fretless and with a nice top? I was hoping for something a little more out there.
  5. Neat, although the value proposition seems a bit wild to me. It seems like a tiny slice of a Stomp's functionality but at 50% of the price?
  6. Love a pointy headstock. What scale length is it?
  7. The opposite of a bright sound, obviously 😬
  8. Yeah, to me it seems like they need to slim the body down a bit to match the, er, more cut-away cut-away
  9. Like I said, not one for the purists 😉
  10. Ha, it's definitely quite a specific niche... some people are ok but it is largely aggressive young American metal guitarists with too much time and money on their hands.
  11. Possibly a stretch to get one in budget but my (unlined) Metro Express has the dots where the lines would be.
  12. They're doing 4s and 7s only this time round, so far anyway https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_4000_ii_nt.htm
  13. Probably twice as much material in the neck and hardware on the 7 too...
  14. My guess is that it will be pretty heavy...
  15. I reckon their demographic is: - one third aspiring fusion shred masters - one third metal dudes who can't afford a Dingwall but want to tune to low F# - one third a bit of both ( I do own a 7 string bass, and would fall into the last third fwiw). There is also a 34" scale 4 string https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_4000_ii_nt.htm
  16. Probably not one for the purists, but a 35" scale neck through 7 string for just over £500 new. Looks pretty cool, and while the headstock is still a bit clunky looking the string pull looks sensible. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_bz_7000_ii_nt.htm
  17. There must be some sheep in that 10m who fancy themselves as the next Steve Baah-ai who might have one (...I'm sorry I'm trying to delete it)
  18. I know you don't want to be a shredder but there's probably someone selling an Ibanez RG somewhere in your neighborhood, which tend to have very fast (shallow and quite flat) neck profiles.
  19. Not quite as posh, but here's my pair of Conklin Groove Tools 7s (and their bastard offspring from the same factory)
  20. My experience of Elixirs suggests that they probably will not protect you from the metal 100%, they tend to flake a little, especially if you're playing a lot.
  21. Depends if it's a problem with the nut itself or if the slot isn't cut correctly. Might just need a bit of sanding?
  22. No that doesn't look right to me -- on my fretless 5 the nut is flush with the bottom of the slot
  23. I have a fretless 5 string which is pretty good. I upgraded the pickups to the higher spec version since they came up used but frankly it didn't make much difference.
  24. It reads to me like the 40th anniversary thing is just coincidental timing, and I'd guess Fender might be more impacted as they often make up a large proportion of shop stock compared to other brands.
  25. Nice job, did you have to chisel out space for the 5 string pickup too?
