1.
Since the majority of our gigs in London have supplied back line, I literally go with my bass in Mono gigbag, with tuner, VT Bass pedal and two leads in the big pocket. If one lead failed (never happened yet), we are usually on the bill with at least 2 or 3 other bands so I know I could borrow one. If we are supplying back line, then my Mesa Walkabout comes with me as a one-hand lift, with the rest of my gear slung over my back as above.
Pretty similar for me- gigbag, bass, a lead, tuner. Done! If I was getting paid for it I'd be a bit more thorough in terms of spares though.
2. For checking bass only, I'll just pedal some notes in different registers for a while. As a band, we usually do a bit of one of our songs that has as much variety as possible.
3. Alan from ACG (posts as Skelf) is a Hipshot dealer I believe.
4. I really like Peaveys so the grind would be my choice; £200 in a private sale will likely buy you more than the same amount in a shop. They should both be solid instruments though as both companies make good quality instruments that punch well above their weight IMHO.
5. ^It's a DB, so no compensated nuts or adjustable intonation here!
6. I think the inputs on modern laptops are more robust than you guys are giving them credit for. FWIW I made no changes to the setup (preamp/FX-> 4 track-> PC) or the levels I use when switching from a "proper" soundcard on my desktop to the onboard sound on my laptop. Anyway, I'll stop flogging this particular dead horse now
7. Just checked the audio config panel and it's listed there as a mic/line in. I don't hear any noticeable issues with it, and for the OP's needs it should work fine. Again, YMMV.
8. No, but 1) I have more gain stages in my signal chain than I know what to do with and 2) I think these are designed to be pretty flexible. I very much doubt that it's like plugging into a mic input on a mixer.
9. If it's a laptop it's unlikely to have separate line/mic inputs- I record everything through the input marked as mic on mine (and run the monitors from the headphone output). If you have a proper interface it's a different story obviously. I guess YMMV.
10. Wizbat is the member I think.
11. Not a lot of info about pickups/electronics...
12.
Ah, well that's different. "The frets are in very good condition and the neck is straight", yeah right. Straight compared to what?
Its entirely possible that the neck was straight when it was sent- I would expect to have to give any bass that had been sitting in a post depot over a long weekend a good setup when it arrived.
13. To transfer from minidisc to computer you'll need to connect the output of the MD player to the mic input on the PC and use something like Audacity to record it. I'm sure there are all in one devices for doing it but I have no experience in that area. Hope that helps.
14. If you can determine that the truss rod works I would keep it. I quite like the post-apocalyptic aesthetic.
15. Dethklok and the Ibanez are real. Dunno about the last one but there are microtonal players out there, although I've only seen guitarists using it so far in metal.
16. ...that was weird...
17. I actually quite like that- obviously T-Bird inspired but without the bits that make actual T-Birds look stupid.
18. A Precision is 34" scale. You can get extra long strings but there's not a consistent standard for what defines long/extra long scale, and it doesn't take into account factors like whether the bass is strung through the body or not. If you can get extra longs with the strings you like that's probably the best way to go. Hope that helps. Kyle
19. Can you not take it up with the Gallery?
20. Have you tried the 1/4" output next to the XLR?
21. You'll occasionally see a US Cirrus here, and I've seen a G-Bass (graphite neck) a couple of times, but the other models (US made Milleniums for example) are very uncommon IME, and much more expensive than they are in the US. The prices they go for on TB, even with shipping and taxes taken into account makes that a better deal in general. One of these days I'll get one from TB and find out how good they really are- I'm a big Peavey fan.
22. I'd like to see the full specs/options/pricing before making my mind up here. Let's not all rush to judgement on the basis of a few protoypes.
23. Any 5 or 6 strings with 36" scales on the horizon?
