  4. Versatile Overdrive pedal specifically designed for bass, with an onboard two-band equaliser and a Balance knob for blending dry/overdriven sound. Very Good condition (a bit of velcro residue on bottom). Only £50. Collection from London E2 preferred, but may post at buyer expense.
  5. Nice one, really clever solution. Lovely instrument too.
  6. The Roundabout club in Sandy, Bedfordshire. Decent gig in the end. We don't often use our own PA and we have this digital system that none of us really understand. Worked fine last week. This week, full of gremlins. We also managed to blow our sub somehow so I was trying to play to the venue through a 100watt amp I was planning to only use as a stage monitor, plus a bit of bass in the tops. Regardless of those and other sound issues the actual gig was good. We were really relaxed so no starting at 200mph or messing up of songs. Decent venue, good little crowd who seemed to be enjoying it. Played my "new" MIM Precision throughout and was very happy with this through my SWR Working Pro, good job that amp has a built in limiter considering how much I was having to push it.
  7. 100% correct about the bass in active mode. Bass/mid/treble is now bass/low mid/hi mid. Since its a modern sounding bass anyway there is plenty of high end available without having the treble knob, and the hi mid control is lot more useful to me. I find the same with my dingwall, which has the same preamp installed. I will double check about the tone control in passive mode.
  8. I recently acquired this cab in a trade but I have no need for it myself. It's in great condition and the sound is impressive. It comes with the Genzler branded soft cover too. These cabs are £899 at Bass Direct (reduced from £1,099) so I think I've priced it competitively and at less than the trade value I took it for. Here's a really comprehensive article on the cab which gives you everything you would want to know about it - https://www.bassgearmag.com/genzler-ba12-3-slt-bass-cab/ Collection from Kinver near Stourbridge or I might be able to meet you on my gig travels. As for trades, I might be tempted by a Maruszczyk P or PJ5 or similar or a Limelight or similar 60s-style P or J with a rosewood board. Basses should weigh 9lbs or less. Cash to be added by me of course.
  9. I’m sure this preamp is long gone by now, it’s an old thread. But I agree. If it isn’t good stock, a preamp won’t alter it. @NickA I spent a while fiddling with where I want the treble tone to come from, it’s a cool option to have. As it turns out, though I preferred the treble signal coming from the neck before, now I seem to like it coming equally from both pickups. I must admit some frustration today with the bass, though. I am finding it hard to reproduce some of the sounds I was getting last night. It is quite finicky to adjust. The thought of trying to do this on a gig is a bit of a problem. I did a jazz jam this week where I literally was told the song about 30 seconds before we played it, then the key about 15 seconds after that (!!). Knob tweaking time was really minimal. This is too finicky for that…I’ll keep practicing with it.
  10. Seems like a reasonable price, good results can be had if you can do the work: I'd just buy the cab I wanted though, the world isn't exactly short of old, heavy Ashdown cabs going for a song.
  11. I'm glad you've found a solution to the problem. That's a beautiful Lakland you have there too!
  12. Hi would you mind sending me as well? My email is [email protected] Thanks
  13. Seems highly illogical to me to get rid of an otherwise awesome bass because of unsatisfactory electronics. It's like selling a car because you don't like the tires that is on it (yes, I know nothing about cars). If you can't get the current preamp to work for you turn the bass passive and see how that works or get a different preamp.
  14. Back to the pubs for me last night with a dep gig with my old band Isabelle at The Brave Old Oak in Towcester. Drummer really struggles with loud bass players, so I took in ears to supplement my rig so I could be fairly quiet on stage. Next step with this band will be to go amplesss for me. Anyway, I remembered all the stuff, decent crowd and went down well, home by 0045. Happy Daze!
  15. I’m also pretty pleased with my fret job on this one….. like I say, they weren’t bad, but I’ve tidied up the ends and polished them. Super comfortable to play now, especially with flats. Also, note the fretboard has been treated with Monty’s relic wax, darkening it slightly, and then a coat of boiled linseed oil. Super comfortable neck now.
  16. I bought one of his yellow 51 P bass shorties a couple of years ago. What a lovely bass it turned out to be. It won’t be my last Retrovibe.
  17. Ashdown ABM 500 watt EVO 111 bass head. The usual ashdown bells and whistles, i.e. valve preamp/drive, solid-state power amp, compressor, octaver, flat/shape button, footswitch out, effects send return, tuner out etc. I bought this fairly recently but I was originally looking for a 2x10 combo and now that I've used it at half a dozen gigs, I'm thinking that I'd prefer a 2x10 combo after all. Collection from Whitley Bay or a possible meet up within a reasonable distance.
  18. The Loui looks so much tidier than it used to! Not hard, but it's nice to see a bit of an effort has been made. Haven't played/been there in years now despite it being in walking distance. Ought to rectify that.
  19. Ooph. There is no limit. Think I'll stick with brass. 😁
  20. When I retire ....I'll map out the frequency responses. Meanwhile, Life is too short and I'll stick to tweaking the knobs. It's an amazing preamp tho.. that treble stack is great; it's supposed to be a variable "pick attack" but does so much more. You can even choose what blend of pickups to put through it (internal trim pot).
  21. That seems a good ball park price for what you could be getting. So long as it has the original driver in full working order then you have a quality piece of kit where the only drawback is cosmetic. For that price you aren't worried about re-sale value really, the most you can loose is £65 or whatever you pay and in reality the driver is probably worth £45 on its own and you can use the cab until you decide to upgrade and probably get nearly all of your money back, you might even make a profit
