  1. Past hour
  2. The instrument I've had for longest is my first ever bass, this '64/'65 Höfner Artist 2 that I bought from my metalwork teacher for £20 in 1982. Pretty much unplayable, at least one of the pickups is fubar. I really should get it going again, if only for old time's sake.
  3. I really liked the demo video so will be keen to hear your thoughts once you have played through the cab.
  4. It's a cracking product and I wouldn't be without mine on any gig now.. The only thing that ASI need to sort out ASAP is the facility to make silicone moulds here in the UK. I chased up the UK distributor, 3dwaveaudio, and they told me they need a specialised 3d printer do do this that they don't have. If I get ASI in the US to make them it'll cost me $175 plus shipping and import duty too. @Dood - have a word in their ear please
  5. I bought a brand new Gibson J50ADJ acoustic guitar in 1967 and have played it in hundreds of environments and venues from gigs in posh hotels and restaurants to campfires and house parties. In late '67 you could still travel by ocean liners(NOT cruise ships) and I took a ship from Vancouver to Sydney and spent 5 months in SE Australia on a Honda 175 Srambler (!) with my Gibson strapped on the back. I had great fun on the ships both ways playing at parties in the bars and cabins and playing at the various amateur nights. The guitar has survived all that abuse, the only repair was just after I bought it when the bridge developed a crack and had to be replaced. I don't play it much these days but it always feels and sounds good and the narrow fingerboard works well with my small hands. My next oldest is a Baldwin Ode tenor banjo that I bought new in 1975 to play in a nostalgia/trad/20's-50's trio. We played a lot of club gigs and parties for the 8 months the band lasted including two month long house band stints, one in Toronto and the other one halfway across the country in Regina. No repairs and I still play it, in fact I used it just last weekend in the trad set that the swing/trad band I have been in for 7 years includes in most of our shows. It's tricky going from DB for the swing to that little skinny banjo neck but it's fun to play and adds some sparkle to the music and an authentic sound. That banjo was $CAD 1100.00 when I bought, a huge price at the time. I also have a 1988(?) Yamaha RB 750A bass that was bought new and I gigged (jazz, blues, pop)with that until I went upright with EUB and the DB in 2015. EUB (Stagg then Yamaha SB200) in 2015 and the to DB in 2018 after I travelled over to the Basschat DB Bass Bash in 2018 and that started me down the DB path. As you can see I am not one who wants to keep buying and selling and luckily managed to find instruments that work for me and have given me thousands of hours of enjoyment over the years.
  6. Still got my first ever bass… bought new in 1982. An Aria Pro 2 SB700. Fabulous bass. Still love it and sounds great. Playing it in a university musical around 1985.. Playing it last November for an “80s” set…
  7. Sometimes it seems the best solution is the simplest.
  8. As i remember - Fender 2003. Jaco signature jazz bass.
  9. This is my experience in a nutshell. The first time I tried IEM’s on a non-silent stage was a massive disappointment. OK I was using the Basschat favourite KZ non-custom in-ears, but I had the volume maxed on the aux and the receiver and still I wasn’t getting a clear improvement over my custom ACS hearing protection with way to much spill from the drums in particular. Running everything at high volume rather defeated the point of the IEM’s in the first place. Despite having upgraded my in-ears to Sennheiser, I still find myself reverting to the ACS solution as it works and I don’t have to suffer the post-gig tinnitus.
  10. Still owning: a Chines bamboo flute called Dizi, which has a hole that you cover with a membrame, this creating a nasal sound. Instrument owned the longest but now sold: probably my Yamaha TX802 - an FM synth. Behind those few buttons are like a 1,000 parameters to adjust, if one wants to. Building just one sound could take me eight working days. Stellar synth, though, and one learned how to be quick at editing. Bass owned the longest: probably my beloved 2007 Bongo 4HH Dargie Delight - the original olive green version with martini glass fretboard inlays. Have to admit those inlays charmed me.
  11. I couldn't possibly go back to mono now, at least not unless I really had to. When I'm playing keys I get a really nice stereo mix. Guitar's panned, backing vocals panned, stereo spread on the keys etc. its like listening to a recording.
  12. I specifically asked about the second bass, and the owner told me earlier today there's only one available.
  13. I didn't say they played bad, just sounded bad. The mix was very unbalanced. I'm sure we have all stood on stage and can gauge how loud we are compared to the rest of the band, and make a pretty good judgment call as to how it sounds out front and make adjustments. We use our ears for this. When you have a full band that are all listening to personal mixes in their ears, they lose a sense of what it sounds like to the audience and can't make these judgement calls. Both bands were very tight but the second had a pretty poor mix. EDIT: to add to this, ive experienced the same thing in my band. When one of our guitarist went over to IEM's, he more or less gave up on settings a volume to match the other in the band. We would all be telling him we couldn't hear him and had to get him to take them out for a song or two so he could set his amp level a but better. He has now stopped using them for really small gigs like the one I posted last week, so he can hear his amp and gauge if it's too loud/quiet etc.
  14. I wouldn’t contemplate trying to hack into something I could use live, but for practice it’s ideal. Excited to have time again tonight to practice.
  15. Cheers, if it wasn’t for my EBS Stanley Clarke pre being necessary on my board (as I double on EUB) then this would be staying with me.
  16. The guy in the shop on Saturday also mentioned that they had a second Wal too, that wasn't on display yet. He thought that one was already priced higher, so I'd guess that'll go out at north of £6k if so!
  17. Jeez - did you get the impression he'd put the price up? I mean, as opposed to me being quoted an incorrect price in the first place on Saturday (the person in the shop at the weekend wasn't the owner)?
  18. I have a comp in front of the Stomp and never had an issue. That said if you put it in the loop you can move it for different patches at the cost of a block.
  19. I was going to jump in the car tomorrow for £3k.... But £5.9k sorry no.
  20. Few recent posts on pickup swaps etc... so though this might be worth a bump!..
  21. We snooze we lose. I was tempted at "just over £3k", but even then couldn't justify such a spend.
  22. Genzler Nu Classic 210T Padded Cover £55 Posted. One of these would cost you cost £95 + shipping if you wanted one for your cab, this is totally brand new and unused.
