Another big fan of wireless and the freedom to roam. Audiences seem to love it, right?! (And also super useful for sound checks, too). What a great performance reminder: "people listen with their eyes" - I'm making note of that one!

Yeah a few rig rundowns I’ve watched have shown speakers being under the stages.

Be careful, I did a walkabout at a wedding and some lady started hugging/dancing with me so the strings got muted - I had to stick my bum really far out to get a gap so I could play 😂

My really nice Fretless Bass with a solid Alder body, Maple neck & a beautifully figured Slab Rosewood lined fingerboard, plays like the proverbial dream and sounds great with oodles of mwoarrrrr. In excellent condition with just a few light play marks. Suitable for either the seasoned Fretless player, or due to the low action and fret lines this would be excellent for a beginner or an inexpensive way to try a Fretless if you’ve always fancied one, but didn’t want to spend a lot of your Great British pounds in case Fretless is not for you. Set up really nicely with a low action all the way up the neck, a lovely rich ‘woody’ sound & the bridge pickup provides instant Jaco when required, otherwise it can be played without the Mwoarrr. Nice and light at 3.7kg or a tad over 8lbs in ‘old money’ according to my digital scales. The lines thankfully extend over the sides of the fingerboard making intonation a doddle, even for an old duffer like me. In excellent condition, with just a few play wear marks, but nothing serious. Specs……. Solid Alder Body Maple Neck Lovely Figured Rosewood Slab lined Fretless fingerboard Yamaha Soap Bar neck & bridge pickups with individual volume and Master tone control. La Bella Flats - if memory serves. 38mm nut width, so very Jazz - esque + nice and shallow. Stagg padded Gig bag included. Any questions, please give me a shout. Can post to the U.K. Mainland via Parcelforce 24 delivery, or collection welcome & knock £25 off the price.

We already know it’s a fake.

I'm not quite as sceptical about this bass. I like to refer to Geddy's Big Beautiful Book of Bass as a starting point on these occasions. There are examples of similar tortoishell around 65/66 in there, but I agree it could be a later replacement. The machine head design is the part I cannot find examples of around that date, but their condition/finish looks much more authentic than modern Road Worn parts. Photos of pots/wiring/cavity/pickup assemblies/windings and neck pocket are also essential evidence. The neck plate is correct for the neck date. Torres started with Fender early to mid 60s, so I'd expect his stamp to be nice and defined after only 3 or 4 years use. The Torres stamp looks in line with many other examples found via online searches. The neck decal looks correct to me for a 65 to 69 according to The Fender Bass (Black and Molinaro). Other than the machines, the neck looks genuine to me. I'd ask the Talkbass community about the machines in particular, as there's a lot of knowledge on there too. I'd be surprised if someone trying to create a fake of this quality cocked up by using the wrong machines. The body also looks correct to me. More photos as above are required, but I'm leaning more towards genuine overall. "What's the price?" is also relevant for a CBS Fender. Why bother faking a CBS era bass, when pre CBS commands much higher prices?

I have a spring reverb that I bought about 40+ years ago when planning to build a guitar combo. Always fancied using it... is it a worthwhile effect for bass or does it just add mud?
-
At one point everyone thought you had to have a V8 in a sports car to be fast and cool, then they started designing 4 cylinder engines that were faster and more efficient. In cabs, the size of the speaker is the wrong way to measure volume and tone.

Ah thanks. yes! Looking at it, that could be a good future upgrade/replacement.. I like the idea. is this a peddle to be added in between the bass and amp. Or in the effects loop?

The future of amps & cabs - stage props only?
Bill Fitzmaurice replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
Don't assume that if you can't see them that the amps and speakers aren't there. They may be back stage or under it, in isolation booths. -
Yay, a week to go! Today is planning day - do I have enough stands? EDIT - EEK, I do not! Glad I checked!

I know, right? I only went wireless last year - dunno why I didn't do it years ago, it's so much fun! People listen with their eyes, so you bet I go on walkabouts during easy bits in songs

Lozz196 started following Depping for my old band Knock Off
-
My old band Knock Off have decided to part ways with their bassist so have asked me to help them out until they get a permanent replacement. Am looking forward to it, though coaxing that old aggressive sound out is a challenge as now playing Fender JMJ Mustangs rather than Precisions for my backs sake, plus my hands can’t take that battering playing style anymore, am sure I’ll find a way though. Some good gigs lined up (Cocksparrer on May 31st in Islington being the first one up) and will be nice to catch up with a lot of people I’ve not seen since I left at end of 2019.

Sometimes I go direct and use wireless IEMs, sometimes I plug into an amp. If the latter, I use a light weight cab and good quality earplugs. In either case, freedom for me comes from a wireless link from my bass rather than a cable.

ambient started following Mono Vertigo gig bag - brand new in the box
-
This item is brand new and unopened. I purchased it about a month ago, but then I bought a new bass that came with an almost-new one. As a result, I now have two. I only opened the box to take these photos. The gig bag hasn't been taken from its wrapping. These have really increased in price recently. They're now £240, so this is a bargain.
