  2. Thanks, that's what I was thinking. The only makes that offer the exact gauges I fancied had hit or miss reviews though. Just ordered a set of Daddario, that I usually play, medium scales with 45-100 gauge. We'll see how they go.
  3. imho it will go quicker in Effects for sale, and I would have that, if I had not just got one there 🙂 glwts

  5. Outdoor Gig Saturday. My glacially slow progress to find a bass tone that I'm happy with both on stage and front of house continues ......... Spent several hours prior to gig playing bass outside via my PA plus Bass rig, just to get the FOH tone sorted. Took a fair amount of time!!! And it didn't rain! Took the set up to the Gig, and was happy enough. Quiet on Stage, Loud enough out front, NO boominess (possibly because it was outside??) . Had a few sorties into the audience whilst playing and was surprised!! The combined Kick Drum /Bass via the PA was really good .... punchy as I've ever heard it. And the balance was great! We'll see how we get on in a indoor venue next weekend!!! The other major difference was that the stage volume was much lower ......... so I'm going to persist with gradually reducing on stage-bass levels and putting it via monitors for the members of the band who notice and would like more bass. Next steps are; 1) Custom-fit IEM's 2) Deploy my new Mixer (CQ 18T) live, so that I have a dedicated monitor mix, 3) Buy a Helix/Zoom B6, and if all works well, 4) Downsize my bass cab (to, in all probability, a LfSys Monaco.) And all this will probably change after next weekend's Gig 🙄 PS I've followed with interest the debate about having 1 or 2 subs, and was in the 1 Sub supporters club. However, The tonal balance, with one sub under one PA top, is noticeably different on the sub side of the stage, from the audience point of view. MUCH "better", fuller/full spectrum/less bright and just "nicer". (RCF 932's over a single RCF 705 mk II). Will try Sub centrally when I get the opportunity .... but the 2 sub solution is tempting ........
  6. Farm mechanisation made agricultural labourers redundant. IT did the same for the thousands employed in typing pools. Factory robots are rapidly replacing manual manufacturing jobs. Supermarkets and self-service took away most commercial staff needs. Driverless cars will soon make taxi and bus operations automatic. This 'ere A.I. is set to push intellectual and management out of work. It seems that the future is bright for everyone, with all of their time free to enjoy all the leisure time they'll have, from the cradle to the grave. We'll all be sharing the immense wealth this 'progress' is generating, won't we..! Won't we..? No, seriously; we will, won't we..? Please..?
  7. Just to bolster your confidence... I did the drill out and plug with dowel version of the fix, admittedly on a very cheap neck, and made a horrid job of it. For someone who likes woodworking I was ashamed of myself. However, it's been fitted to my office beater-bass for several years and has been completely solid. No problems with movement or strange sounds coming through the pickups or when played unplugged. Have a practice run on a bit of scrap and go for it!
  8. Stick the Spectracomp on the Toneprint if you haven't already, the Chorus effects and Comp 'n' Drive are good too.
  9. A bit like a pint glass that`s never empty then - best have two!!
  10. Id say yes maybe you're right. Ive been looking up MIJ pickups from that time, and some had a ceramic bar magnet. It would explain the tone, which is quite bright with a strong output.
  11. Funny: a mate has a Monaco; he was round at my place collecting some speaker stands and saw I had a second Monza. His reaction somewhat incredulously: Why do you need two? I think that sums up the capabilities of these cabs. It probably sums up my character as well: one pint is nice but two is even better!
  12. Ironic that business is pushing AI and for users to learn it when one day, it will replace them and their jobs.
  13. Not so sure about parting with it.. But I'm reorganizing my gear and for my current needs, I'm not using this instrument at the moment as I also have other 5 string jazz style instruments. I might consider a trade, or exchange, for a different instrument, maybe something more modern, or 4 or 5 strings.. with active preamp This Olinto is a sensational instrument, maybe the best passive jazz 5 I've ever tried.. a very woody and organic voice.. it doesn't sound like the typical maple fretboard instrument.. it sounds very 60's.. it even has a sound that seems older than my 66 jazz!! As for the characteristics of the instrument: Olinto J5, Production year 2023 body: alder maple neck, birdseye maple fingerboard, custom Mas Hino hand wound pickups 34" scale Carbonetti Sunburst nitro finish hipshot hardware weight around 4kg original hard case available a spare white perloid pickguard Other pics and samples available on request price for a new one, around 5200$ plus shipping, plus taxes I set a trade value of 4800€, open to discuss depending on the offers no issues on the bass.. really near mint conditions

  15. Easily the best speaker cabinet I have ever used: am downsizing to lighter Genz Benz cabs as I rarely play live now. The Eden D210XST Cab is loud enough to be heard and yet still small enough to be used at home or in a small studio. For those players who need a portable, high-performance rig with even more low end than the XLT, Eden has designed a 2 x 10" cabinet for their XST woofers. Punchy and clean, the D210XST produces a full and clear tone through its two 10" speakers. It's excellent for delivering articulate bass lines with volume. This 2 x 10" cabinet handles more power than many 4 x 10" cabs on the market. The D210XST offers huge bottom end with its cleverly-designed tuned and ported cabinet construction and speaker selection: the low end is full but tight, the mids are open and well-defined and the highs are clear and crisp. Durable build quality makes this ideal for touring and live performances. All Eden enclosures are constructed with 5/8" thick void free plywood with full dado and rabbet jointing. Massive internal bracing prevents vibration and keeps the sound deep, tight and clear. Exclusive Eden Cast Frame loudspeakers and Eden Cast Bell low distortion tweeter horns are designed, hand-built and tested in their own factory in the USA. Very Good condition. Comes with an official Eden cover. Power Handling: 500 Watts Impedance: 8 Ohms Speakers: 2x10" Eden-spec Eminence EC1060XS speakers Tweeter: Eden Cast Bell low distortion Crossover: 3.5KHz @ 18dB Frequency Response: 30Hz - 14KHz Sensitivity: 103dB SPL Connections: Parallel 1/4 Inch and Speakon Dimensions: 23" w x 18" h x 18.5" d Weight: 59lbs / 26.8kg Only £325. Collection from East London preferred, although happy for buyer to arrange a courier.
  16. With the shorter scale tension will probably be less so 45-105 on a 32 should feel similar to 40-100 on a 34.
  17. The split path is good, can use as a simple A/B switch or as a blend, and the blend can add more complex stuff like dynamic sensitivity and cutoff frequencies for each path. I found that it isn't really necessary for most compressor/drive/effects though as the 'x comp bass' is multiband compression and has a clean mix (although Boss like to confuse things wherever possible so call it 'direct mix'). The same with distortion like the 'X-OD Bass' and in fact with all the amps and all the bass effects e.g. the Bass chorus has clean mix as well as cutoff frequency (high cut/low cut the effect). I often use the split path just as an A/B switch to make it visually simpler to see what is going on for turing a few effects on/off together. The split path things is useful for the Royal Blood type Guitar/Bass amp split - but even that you can do very similar without the divider just in series with with the Bass going through as a clean mix (clean blend basically creating a parallel split path around that one effect block). I've found the split path and dynamic sensitivity things most useful for nerding out with effect stuff like slicer+delay etc.

  19. Given the goth style makeup she went out in last night I beg to differ... 😊
  20. I guess a ton a bass lines I play are influenced by something I've already heard somewhere, I wonder what creativity AI will bring to the world of requirement for session players.
  21. They flew 117 drones into an airbase and systematically targeted and destroyed specific individual planes carrying cruise missiles. Reportedly 34% of Russia's cruise missile capability was lost in that one attack. That's not setting off a bomb and hoping you do a load of damage and scare people. And while those drones were each piloted by an individual operator back home in Ukraine, you can bet there's a ton of AI being used to assist and identify targets.
  22. Sounds like you’re sorted and if you need to look again I think the Fender Rumble Combo 500w would be the way to go
  23. Made in Japan, well used with plenty of scratches (see photos). Plays and records really well. No whammy bar. I’ve used it for home recording and it sounds fine, good variety of sounds. Only my playing lets it down.

  24. Thanks for your comments-yes a truly beautiful looking and sounding bass.
  25. So I tried the speaker at home, couldn't get it to go wrong. I took it apart, and checked the switch and the socket, they were fine, very solid. I disconnected, tested and reconnected the power terminals, and they are also solid, so I put it all back together. Had a gig on saturday, also open air, but also one we put the whole drum kit through so just in case of issues, I brought my BC speaker and an amp to drive it instead of the bam, in case there is a drop out. And it was rock solid all day, so who knows what that was about, the sound was great.
