Played at the Cart & Horses in the East End on Friday night with the Zep tribute. If you didn't know, this is the venue where Iron Maiden cut their teeth, which of course you would never guess from the complete lack of memorabilia around the place, Maiden themed beers and wine at the bar and everything on the familiar IM font...! 😉 A bit of an odd gig, as we had a dep drummer for the night, which as you might imagine is a tough gig for a drummer to dep. The guy we got in had been struggling at a couple of rehearsals we managed to get in, but he did fine. Not perfect, but not a disaster by any means!

Yep i'm a big fan of Guy Pratt ever since seeing Delicate Sound of Thunder original video tape which for me had a better mix than the re-release they did. His bass solo was outstanding in that vid. Dave

I bought an Encore Precision a couple of years ago in a charity shop and it is genuinely one of my favourite basses, among some much, much more expensive ones. It has some amazing grain on the body which is solid wood, the neck also has some nice grain and quilting, and a lovely piece of rosewood for the fretboard. A bit of love and a Tonerider pickup and it sounds and play fantastic. Link to the NBD thread below if interested.

Ooohh that's nice. That would look great in my Glam band. Dave

Gorgeous bass tone on this new Sven Wunder disc from around 35s. There must be more going on here than just plectrum & flats?

A bit late, but I thought this might be useful if anyone else is in a similar position - the Dunlop ECB004 worked a treat. Noiseless.

It depends what you are doing and what your band is about. Are you playing covers of tracks where the performance is more important than the song? If I'm playing something like Hot For Teacher, I want the guitarist for nail EVH's guitar part note for note. Same thing for a Rush tribute, the performance is key, so play it exactly like the record or don't bother. It's a bit different covering many other types of bands, where the bass player(s) might have developed / changed the parts over the years, or never played the same thing twice. Then you have to get the feel and spirit of the original, rather than just play the part as the record. Of course, it also depends whether you are playing the song, or covering the a particular version of the song. Remember that often keeping it simple is the best option and not settling for less at all. The thing is that you should be playing a simple part by choice, not because you can't play anything different!

Having a bit of a streamline of my pedalboard and looking to let these beauties find a new home. Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver DI You know the deal, industry standard preamp/DI functionality - this one has 3 switchable channels allowing you to vary your tone/drive as required. A great pedal that's been a key part of my board but no longer required due to my GK 700RB amp. Excellent condition comes with the box. Looking for £160 posted MXR M85 Bass Distortion A flexible bass distortion based on the famous RAT circuit this one has both the original RAT and Turbo RAT circuits switchable via a push button. Sounds great and in excellent condition apart from a few small chips in the paint. Looking for £90 posted Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor Really versatile workhorse compressor that gets great reviews on sites like Ovnilabs - https://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/vicegrip.shtml. A few battle scars to the paintwork but apart from that it's in great nick. Looking for £110 posted EHX Bass Clone Chorus Bought this last year looking for a Peter Hook kind of sound as it's a modern version of the original EHX Clone Theory. Hardly ever used, comes with the box. SOLD Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver DI Cheap clone of the famous Sansamp Bass Driver DI, does a fantastic job considering the price differences. Looking for £15 posted

Have some unused valves knocking around that aren't going to get used. They were purchased a while back as spares for the Fender Tweed Deluxe kit I built. I have tested them this morning in my amp and all are working fine with no noises of any kind. The EHX preamp valves are 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 12AY7 - one has the original box the other one doesn't for some reason, but both are unused and have been sat in my drawer. The 12AX7 is now sold Looking for £12 posted for the 12AY7 please. The rectifier valves are 2 x NOS Brimar 5Y3GT and 1 x NOS Pinnacle 5Z4GT - The Pinnacle can be used as drop in replacements for a 5Y3GT. I bought all of these as New Old Stock and they come with the original boxes but do have signs of wear on the cardboard. The Brimar valves have a corrugated cardboard and tissue paper protective cover that come with age appropriate smell 😂 Looking for £15 each posted please. Happy to arrange local meet-up with price adjustment if needed.

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
tauzero replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
Friday night's open mic featured an appearance by the 14-y-o guitarist's mother to sing November Rain. She got a bit panicked and it all got somewhat rearranged on the fly but Phoebe managed to get her soloes in. And it was the last night that the 12-y-o singer was a 12-y-o singer as her birthday was the day after. Another guy put in an appearance - the first time Mrs Zero and I had seen him since well before lockdown. He used to run an open mic night in Coventry which is where I first met the keyboardist-singer that I'm now playing bass for. He had a series of mini-strokes but has recovered and is trying to get out more. -
I write the dots out. I learn it.

If you get a chance to try a double bass with a lower action, higher tension steel string setup you might find that easier to adjust to. I'm used to playing double bass with Spirocores at a medium/low height, and it takes me a while to get much out it if someone hands me their low-tension slap setup bass.

As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £12.90 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears these seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

Are there 34 and 35 versions of it? It only said 2016 Ian Hill signature bass, so I assume it is the 34 one.
