Always great classy pics you have. Dave

Superb and huge respect being able to take on work like that without regular rehearsals. Takes a good musician to be able to do that. Not sure I could do it. Dave

I might give our drummers QSC 12.2 cabs a we shot with my bass. He has the 12.2, 3 way 15 cabs and subs but we generally just use the 15's. Dave

So I've spent the last week rehearsing & playing bass for the excellent (and lovely) Whitney Lyman - a singer songwriter from the USA. I got booked a few weeks back and she arrived from LA last Monday. we rehearsed Tuesday, then played in London on weds, then a few gigs up North at the brilliant Focus Wales festival. Some recording got done yesterday and a little more later in the week, then she's back to sunny California. Had great time, band was sh1t hot and enjoyed it. Used my Jazz basses, Peavey MiniMax500 and my Barefaced 2x10 - good compliments on the sound from the sound engineer too (and the EQ was flat as a pancake). Plans being made for another visit and some festival dates all being well..... just need to get asked to do some USA dates now 🤣

Most that I've worked with pop up onto the stage whilst the band is playing a 'test' number, to check exactly that. It's more or less routine, towards the end of the sound check.

surprised that you're not getting playlisting or airplay, I last saw you at at last years Bearded Theory, you had a decent crowd, I guess the fact I see you get on at smaller festivals has skewed my judgement, just looked at your plays on Spotify, and yes they're not that great. You do do a lot of gigs around the country which is good for album sales, Verbal Warning have been stained by doing mostly covers gigs locally, we struggle to get any originals gigs these days, one comment for a local promoter when we asked about a support slot for a punk gig (999) he was putting on "Why would people pay to see you when they can see you for free in the local pub?" There are some local originals bands around but they struggle to get any gigs at all, a conundrum for sure

I can see both of the 'dl=1' images, not the other two. Hope this helps. -
I guess they are just checking everything is working ok and you have some sort of decent level. The presumption being that you will let them know if you need ‘more’ when the band is playing?

Jazz bass body, Fender Vs Harley Benton Vs Squier
nige1968 replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Bass Guitars
I think Squiers are usually “correct” size and shape, but possibly less depth. HB I don’t have direct experience of HBs but they don’t have to conform in the same way so you’d expect them to be differenter. -
Stillingfleet Beer Festival, Saturday afternoon. I've played there probably half a dozen times in the last 15 years and the weather has always been glorious! The band's first proper gig, albeit with a stand in drummer - kudos, he was great! We went down well and were happy with how we sounded, with some lessons for future bookings.

Thanks! We've been toying with the idea of a vinyl version of the album, but as we'll be funding it completely ourselves, it's difficult to justify the cost when it's 2-4 times more expensive than CDs depending on the quantity and packaging. And as I said previously I still have 300 copies of the Terrortones album that right now are unsellable, plus the fact that for our audience CD still seems to be the most popular format.

Marketplace: anybody using dropbox links to display images?
mcnach replied to mcnach's question in Site Issues and Questions
By default, the link you get when you "copy dropbox link", ends in dl=0. Originally (talking maybe 2010 or so) I noticed that those links didn't seem to work, but changing it to dl=1 fixed it. Of course, that was on a different forum software too. When I was trying to include the images, I noticed some didn't show initially, but if I resized the image to around 30% then it displayed when embedded in a post, at least for me... but from other people's comments it seems that only I was able to see them. Which is odd and unfortunate as I have no way to give or not permissions, by default a link is public. I'm going to try a few things here, please somebody tell me if they can see any images. 1) Dropbox link (dl=0), small image, under 200 Kb [well, I can't embed this one, the link appears highlighted when I put it on the box for the url, and it just won't be accepted] This is the link directly, "as a link": https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/na3xcu0vzkiigrm1g58ib/IMG_20250511_141711_s.jpg?rlkey=mk6oj71ipdi3due4g4wd5d8dd&dl=0 2) Dropbox link (dl=1), small image, under 200 Kb This is the direct link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/na3xcu0vzkiigrm1g58ib/IMG_20250511_141711_s.jpg?rlkey=mk6oj71ipdi3due4g4wd5d8dd&dl=1 Embed (at least I see this one!): 3) Dropbox link (dl=0), large image, a bit under 5 Mb embed: doesn't work direct link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/196kf8s2h7ymkuhyxv6u0/IMG_20250511_141711_large.jpg?rlkey=9or3g2y47pkv0eojjz49pvvc5&dl=0 4) Dropbox link (dl=1), large image, a bit under 5 Mb direct link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/196kf8s2h7ymkuhyxv6u0/IMG_20250511_141711_large.jpg?rlkey=9or3g2y47pkv0eojjz49pvvc5&dl=1 embed (I can see it): -
The album is going to be distributed physically through FOAD Records, not sure what the deal is there but I think they made the vinyl. 100 each of 3 colours. CDs are through a company called Birnam https://www.birnamcd.com/ I'd guess we went for 1000 of them and it'll take 18 months to shift them all - that's been the case for the last few albums I'm not sure about costs sorry, as you can tell, I don't get involved in that side of things.

Agreed with several others on here, with these cheap Chinese wholesalers you never quite know what's going to arrive. (Often not what you ordered!) No need to go expensive, Graham - Keep an eye on the classifieds on here - There are often bargains to be had. A lot of us recently bought the hell out of the SoloKing basses from Andertons, which they discounted to £150 from £300. They were a lot of bass for the money. There are several really nice cheap instruments on the classifieds if you have a dig. For instance, I've got a nice Ibanez BTB on there for £350 (negotiable). There are often instruments available in the classifieds for under £200. If you're after seriously cheap, have a look at the Harley Benton range on Thomann.co.uk. They always offer great playability for practically no money. Hope that helps

I’m glad you’re liking your cab, whilst I don’t play double bass, i have a pair of the Monza 10” cabs and can confirm they are fantastic little units too. . One does me for 90% of gig situations .Stevie is very easy to deal and has great products. It’s nice to support small home grown businesses. For the record, I’ve owned loads of different barefaced cabs too what served me very well.keep enjoying your sound! 😊x

That's excellent. Can I be cheeky and ask you who you are using for the CD and vinyl production, how many of each you are having done and what it is costing? You can PM me if you don't want to share that info in public.
