  1. Past hour
  2. If the drummer isn't signaling changes for you he's probably another dep. Eyes on drummer, ears on rhythm guitar. The good ones will walk you into chord changes not even knowing they are doing it.
  3. Today
  4. Just back from Stourbridge town hall where I played with the Phil Collins tribute, lovely old place and the audience and atmosphere were brilliant, decided on the GB Spitfire tonight, put lighter gauge strings on as a bit of an experiment. Had to push the low mids on the Tecamp puma and dial off a bit of the bottom end as it was sounding a bit ‘flubby’ , not tight and punchy how i like it, but after a good sound check everything was fine and nicely cut through as the show went along. My LFSYS Monza was fab as usual. Not very rock’n roll but enjoying a nice cuppa and a couple of bits of toast after a long drive back to West Sussex.
  5. Boss have always been a odd one, somehow they've managed to be one of the biggest companies in guitar effects while rarely being anyone's favourite. I say this as a owner of the gt-1000 core. Maybe it's being based in Asia so being informed by a player market that's probably as far away form the Anglophone world as possible. Maybe it's just being such a big corporate beast. I really can't see this while licensed plugin formate taking. It will be interesting as they say these are brand new algorithms what their next iteration of multi's and modellers look like.
  6. Hate depping, was traumatised by a stressful experience sitting in with a blues band that played Robben Ford songs. They weren't straight forward I-IV-V songs, they had sudden key changes, stops and starts and changes in time signature. I had two weeks to learn 14 songs along with all the little details that they contained and barely managed to keep it together. Didn't manage to screw up enough to stop the rest of the band from playing or miss a key but it was a struggle. The band were really kind but I'm no Lee Sklar sitting in with Toto.
  7. It’s most definitely not how it goes. I would expect the set very shortly after I had agreed to the gig, if not before. Bands that are tardy with crucial info so close to a gig are to be avoided IMHO.
  8. I remember them coming out but I don't think I played one - it was a long time ago though. I did think it would be rather susceptible to fretboard wear though.
  9. Something to be aware of is that you need a USB power supply plugged into the other USB-C socket on the Chocolate Plus - it won't work as a USB host with just the internal battery.
  10. Well, better than last night, very little of the same problems of yesterday, but god was it hot! Luckily the club had some fans, but even so it was like a sauna. Not as well attended as some have been there, but for some reason the setup was easier, and I think we seemed to play much better. There were a couple of songs, Learn to fly, the singer decided to do the end part before the end which caused us an issue, and a few other fluffs, but nothing as major as that. At half time we found the guitarist that we had last year came to see us which was good to see him. I played the ric tonight, as I did last night, I really do like that bass live, apart from seven nation army, that is a bit shit for. Everything else it is great. Certainly going to feel it tomorrow though. And black Solovair boots, the broken ones. Oh I took the <£10 laser too..
  11. Forgot photos. Anyway not a bad night at a venue that is normally busy but slightly less so. Another band on the same circuit as us that generally seem to have a big pull were down the road a couple of miles, though apparently someone went and came back and said it was also quiet there so 🤷‍♂️ I had some major brain fade moments towards the end. Read the set. Saw the song. Thought it was a completely different song and was expecting something different to start which confused the 🤬out of everyone while they started and I caught up. As anticipated from the rehearsal thread putting a new song as the closer for its first outing whilst a bold move was not the best plan. It sort of worked but fell apart at the end and was a close run thing. IEMs worked well though the leads would not stay attached to the new moulds so I had to revert to the old set. Gear was: FrankenJazz Helix effects Darkglass Microtubes Barefaced BigBaby 2 shoes…comfy barefoot Took the Hardpuncher as a spare tonight as it had sounded nice at rehearsal but not so good against the Jazz so that needs some more thought.
  12. Added a Cali76 bass comp and finalised my MIDI controls to my Anagram. quick soundclip
  13. Yesterday
  14. Here I go through my basses and my pedalboard…
  15. Don’t see many of the new Sansamp’s out in the wild - how do you rate it?
  16. Played a wedding at a stunning venue, first outing of my latest bass that was kindly built for me by a colleague who builds furniture in his spare time (any resemblance to other basses is purely coincidental or a result of a series of router slips)
  17. Dead Flowers - Stones
  18. Aaaw, wow! Thank you for those kind words and I'm glad I could be of help 👍 Does that mean you can say "truss rod adjustment" without breaking out in a sweat? 🤣🤣
  19. These are great amps. EBS sent me one a few years ago which I gave back once I left to use Hartke. Very loud and portable for what they are, used it on a number of occasions where I didn't want to take my big amp.
  20. I’ve done a fair number of deps over the years, and enjoyed pretty much all of them. I enjoy the challenge of playing songs I maybe haven’t done before, along with musicians I maybe haven’t pleased with before too. I always check them out before taking the gig, to make sure there’s nothing I can’t play ( slap, modern jazz etc! ). My advanced years mean I’m familiar with a lot of old stuff, but not as much of the recent stuff - usually gigs where I’m depping do tend to centre around my skill set though, so no surprises. I always turn up on time / help with setting up / don’t play too loud. I’m also okay doing BVs on the fly so that helps get gigs. ( I also check that the fee is realistic and whether there’s any food, plus cash on the night 😄 ). My last dep was with a soul / ska band I’ve never played with, in someone’s back garden for a birthday party. Plenty of Madness / Bad Manners / Otis Redding etc, and I’ve been offered another gig already. Next dep is a week on Saturday with some mates at a great local music pub, so looking forward to that one.
  21. I wouldn't be happy with that. I would expect all details to be supplied as soon as I'm confirmed on the gig. The shortest notice I've experienced was 2 hours. I was in the first band on at a festival and a band who I know rang and asked if I could dep. They were 3rd band on. That’s not quite the same as I play with these guys a lot, but I hadn't played with them for a couple of months. They were happy, but I noticed the lack of prep!
  22. Anyone need a PA amp? Usual excellent Crown quality, this amp has only had light use and comes in a Chord carry bag. Not sure what the total weight is, but the amp on its own is under 4kg, so very portable XLR inputs, Speakon outputs for most users, plus various other options as per photos As well as standard Stereo, the amp can be configured as follows: Crossover Mode (CH1=LPF, CH2=HPF) – this mode enables a LowPass Filter on Channel 1 and a HighPass Filter on Channel 2 at the frequency chosen. LowPass Mode (CH1=LPF, CH2=LPF) – this mode enables a LowPass Filter on both Channel 1 and Channel 1 at the frequency chosen. HighPass Mode (CH1=HPF, CH2=HPF) – this mode enables a HighPass Filter on both Channel 1 and Channel 2 at the frequency chosen. You can also put it into 'Bridge' mode for seriously high levels of output (according to the spec 1.5kW into 4ohm) Pickup from Uxbridge area, or I'll courier to you at cost.

  23. Small cab, lightweight, but as discussed on many posts, produces a surprisingly big sound for a 10" 200W speaker (8 ohms) Some tolex peel/shrinkage, mostly visible on the back, but otherwise sound This version has the fabric front, so marginally lighter (6.7kg) than the one with the metal grille Roqsolid cover is as new Pickup preferred but I can courier this at cost if necessary

  25. Statistics are squirrelly little bastards with lots of squirrelly bastard friends. Your data is the last two orders from Thomman got messed up. Now you will get more data on the messed up orders. This is no way to assess the true proportion of messed up orders. A better question would be, how well was your last Thomman order completed? You still get confirmation bias but at least you aren't tee'ing it up.
  26. Agreed, just watched it. Keith Scott is a superb player, everything in the right place and tones to die for. No slouch at 71 either! Bryan was pretty good too. Didn’t drop a note as far as I could tell, his voice as strong as ever. Didn't quite understand what was going on when he swapped his Precision for guitar though? Watching on a small TV I couldn’t tell what happened to the bass - was it keys or on track? Always preferred Bryan playing guitar anyway to be honest, when he had a regular bassist.
