  2. Working in music retail gave me a different perspective. We sold basses from the 3 brands you mentioned, and would pretty regularly re order popular colour combos, for example. It's not like we sold loads of US Stingrays, but I know for sure there would have been several examples of the same spec/colour in the same town, so when you expand that globally it's not insignificant! I do think more people hold onto quality instruments than perhaps we assume; being members of this GAS - inducing den of disrepute (Bass chat) I think warps the perspective a little 😂
  3. I use a Rumble 100V3 for small acoustic gigs. Fewer bells and whistles than the PJB mentioned, but still relatively lightweight at 22 lbs and cheaper too. Sound wise it’s fantastic, and will cope with even a not too heavy handed drummer. It’s great having headroom on gigs , and with both acoustic and electric basses in a duo and bands. Best amp I’ve used for a long time.
  4. That's a good point about high c string on fretless and eq'ing to account for it. If I plug in my 6er fretless with my normal settings the high c string is exactly as you described and I need to tweak my EQ Dave
  5. my first bass back in the day ..
  6. Gig cancelled as their boiler has failed and can't get parts till next week. 2 yes in a row our gig has been cancelled in Dundee. Last year health issue and now this. Not meant to be.
  7. Hi all, I have an as new boxed and unopened Allen & Heath QU6 for sale. Bought last year for a project which never took off. These are amazing desks, perfect for FOH duties/full band/recording studio. Collection preferred as quite large. https://www.allen-heath.com/hardware/qu/qu-6-qu-6d/
  8. Well... I am a bit of a heretic - I have a tone control on my Naim system! The problem with Hi-Fi systems which strive for getting the best out of the signal is that they can also bring worst out of bad recordings. I have one of these attached to my Tape in/output so I switch to that if the sound engineer had cloth ears. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bellari-Audio-Rolls-EQ570-Equalizer-Red/dp/B07PPQ3XWM
  9. Every 1's A Winner - Hot Chocolate
  10. I've already got a graphic equaliser, but I'm thinking of replacing my elderly Nad amp, so was thinking I could get rid of the equaliser if I could get the job done with an amp

  13. Heresy! It's well known that amplifiers must not have any sort of time controls, as this interferes with the Ultimate Goal, which is High Fidelity, or absolutely accurate reproduction of the original... 😁 I find that the best way to bring out the bass, is to have a large amp and speakers with decent low end extension, but if that's not an option get a graphic equaliser, as there's more control over other affected frequencies. Second best is something like my work Sansui amp, it's got a loudness button and 6 band graphic. Though I rarely use either as it sounds artificial and thumpy, apart from at very low level.
  14. Thanks and sorry for the confusion but that’s how I’ve got it set up. The issue is that it’s easy to hit the tiny preset button (next to the four red/green LEDs) when using the main foot switch as an engage/bypass switch. I just need to work on my foot technique!
  15. Hi , IS 4,7 Kilo
  16. My brain hurts after reading that. I may need to read it twice Edit: I read it twice - I think you made the right decision though i question the choice of Christmas as your preferred point in time ? curious also why “her dad insisted”? Did he know about your “special drawer”? 😛
  17. We Are The Road Crew - Motorhead
  18. Road Ladies - Zappa
  19. Given that a mod is involved, I say this with some trepidation, but you lot need to get a room, or start another thread. This is all way off topic (though much of what has been said is irrational).
  20. That would be the one I'd go for too. Looks beautiful!!! Seriously considering the Mustang too but the Lobster videos about them having bridge alignment issues has put me off a bit for now
  21. I'm not sure that I understand the difference, unless one is playing into an oscilloscope for measuring. All that counts is what is perceived, I'd say. The end result of any active or passive system is that any change of one element affects the whole, as for as human hearing is concerned. Peace.
  22. It looks and sounds great, I'd love one... but from Lobster's review it seems that again Fender are specifically prohibiting them from being sold or shipped outside Japan? Absolutely insane decision, I want to spend my money on their product but they've arbitrarily decided they're not going to sell it to me because of where I live. I honestly don't get it.
  23. On The Road Again - Willie
  24. I've been a gigging bass player for about 50 years, and have generally been ache and pain free in my fingers. Unfortunately, I've recently been getting a sharp pain in the tip of my index finger of my fretting hand when playing. The pain is similar to an electric shock. This is likely some kind of nerve damage, which I'm assuming is temporary and will improve by not playing for a while. Not playing is not an option! Starting 7th Jan I'm back on the road after the Christmas break and have a pretty busy year. My question: Has anyone tried any of the various fingertip protectors for guitarists that are on the market? If so - any recommendations, or those to avoid. I'm hoping that the extra bit of cushioning will reduce the pressure on my finger resulting in less pain. I want to try this option first before seeking professional help. Cheers
