  1. Past hour
  2. The last time I did that, when i bought a squier classic vibe P bass, I tried the Squer, an fender standard and a fender american - I certainly didn't *hear* that much of a difference between them (there was obviously a difference, but I mean in terms of one being better than the other), but the fender american *felt* better than the others, and the Squier felt better than the fender standard. The squier was certainly a better deal at less than 1/3 of the price of the american, so I bought that and played it for years.
  3. Indeed - almost like that is what novel means I wasn't arguing on definitions, just what that website was saying, which was stretching definitions to make their point. Indeed I sat a mensa test and got in (nothing like 162 thought) - that was in my 20s, I doubt I would get closer to my older score now, I feel thicker than I used to be. To be honest if someone has an IQ of 162 I would be surprised that they can cope in modern society, he would certainly need some help. High intelegence isn't a help in society, actually quite a frustration because most of our systems dont require and actively work against it. The average intellegence in prison is higher than in general society, and it should never be confused with what people call 'common sense' (which generally has the emphasis on the common). Wisdom helps to tame that. As I said, I doubt my intelegence is anything like it was at 20 but because my wisdom is higher and my patience is higher, I am actaully better at my job now, even if it takes longer to work things out.
  4. Yeah I`ve had the Classic Vibe and the original Player, the Player a better bass imo, though much of that could be my preference for a maple fret-board as do prefer it to rosewood. But the CV as a base for modifications such as pickups etc def worth considering especially if rosewood fret-board is a preference.
  5. I mean, if they are around £160 - it could very easily be black with a bit of work. Matching headstock too.
  6. If only there were a black/black/maple..........
  7. Its not possible to change program, no, the yes you quoted was an answer to "Could that be done using MIDI program changes or controlled via running the project itself?" where that was a quote to muting and unmuting several bass tracks.
  8. My lad did a Mensa Test (the proper one where you book in and attend, not something shonky off the internet) at 12 (he'd been mithering me for a while, so I took him down one Saturday), and that's always described as an 'intellgence test'. He got his results back (with an invite for Mensa membership) and scored 162 on the Stanford Binet, which is pretty much off the scale, so on paper he's very very very intelligent indeed. In the real world, however, I wouldn't trust him to sit the right way round on a khazi three out of four tries, he's as daft as a brush 90% of the time. There's definitely a limit to the usefulness of some 'intelligence'...
  9. Hopefully all those who hate the ticketing scams and booking fees will transfer to watching local bands. That said, we are doing a charity gig for free and Eventbrite keep £1.70 of the £7 ticket price… 🤔 I know they have to make a living, but…
  10. I`ve got tickets for Volbeat at Wembley Arena in a few weeks, at £50ish a very pleasant change to pricing, as most gigs are way more expensive. Volbeat are a pretty big band and I have in the past paid more for tickets for smaller bands so it`s refreshing to see a big band not try and max out their tickets. But then Volbeat seem to be fairly old school to me, release an new album/CD every couple of years and then tour it.
  11. Sixty-odd quid is fairly reasonable to see a "name" band these days. I don't think they make as much money from selling music these days, thanks to streaming services, so have to make it from touring, which can't be cheap to do.
  12. Heal up first. You'll remember more than you think when you return to the bass. I didn't play bass for two years during lockdown, and nearly quit altogether but thankfully I got back on the horse and it all came flooding back. Your bass playing will be fine and it can wait. Don't compromise your recovery by trying to do physical things before you're ready. I haven't ridden a bike for years, but I'm pretty sure I won't need my stabiliser wheels put back on...
  13. ....apologies if the post above looks a bit ridiculous. For perspective I'm ancient, a mediocre bassist and not exactly eye candy nowadays! I'm fortunate enough to have picked up a few decent gigs of late though
  14. I don't need a SS4, but that pink one is nice. For the right price, I might be tempted...
  15. Fingers crossed, there might be one added next week.
  16. Give an example of a novel problem... perhaps a room with twelve buttons and work out how to get out.* All problem solving is on a continuum between prior knowledge or trial and error. Solving a truly novel problem (where you have no prior knowledge ofwhat actions will achieve the desired effect) starts with trial and error Intelligence includes the ability to flexibly modify future behavior in the light of learned experience; anticipating future events; interpreting the behaviour and motivations of others; mapping abstract concepts onto reality and the reverse. And much more. *To be truly novel the solution should not reflect prior experience - something as simple as pressing the right buttons wouldn't be novel. Sorry just irrelevant musing... I'll shut up.
  17. I'm intrigued when you say more bottom end for double-thumb. How do more frets equate to less low end?
  18. Sonata Arctica on Sunday, and Battle Beast last night - both in Manchester. Sonata were still very good but I ended up drinking my way through their support bands. Last night was, however, exceptional. If you like cheerful metal and get the opportunity, definitely go and see Majestica, Dominum and Battle Beast.
  19. I love paulownia - I have 2 basses with that, and I have all the parts to put together a paulownia body telecaster too - when I get round to it!
  20. Bought a Kiwami from @Lunoxx - thanks again mate, superb pedal - which needed some TLC and a pot replacement. I’m no electronics engineer, but I know enough to replace parts like for like, and I’ve fixed a few circuit boards in my time. I jumped on the chance to get one of these mad filter pedals, and the repair was interesting. I detailed some of the job on here: https://www.basexperience.co.uk/new-frontiers-pedal-repair/ anyone else repair their own electronics? I learned a lot on this job, particularly about desoldering.
  21. Up for sale is my 2008 Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass This is from the first year of production from the Grand Reward Factory in China, there is lots of information about these online and don’t come up very often - there is currently one up for sale on eBay for £650. These are the more sought after models which were built to a higher standard than the later Indonesian models where they used Laurel fretboards rather than Rosewood and not such a high QC standard. They only made the sonic blue finish for over a year or so. The bass has been fret polished, strung up with new strings and set with a nice action. It has some marks/dints as can be expected for age of it from use and there is a paint chip through to the wood on the rear of the body by the neck this was before my ownership with it. There are no cracks around the neck pocket. I have a cheap fender soft bag I will include with it. Based near Stamford in Rutland.
  22. Looks good, definitely a Fallout competitor.
  23. Don't go to a lot of gigs now; ticket prices aside, I honestly abhor the inconvenience and associated costs of the journey in and back (generally Reading to Landaan), the cost of getting a pint etc. Anyhoo...on to ticket prices. Guess I'm a little behind the curve here, but interest spiked when I read the happy news that Sugar had reformed and are doing two dates in London next May. Got the mailing list presale, no prices, navigated through that, no prices, tickets in basket, no prices, get to the end £62.10 a pop, plus a ticket agency fee. (God knows how the 10p element was calculated out.). At which point, I just shut down Firefox and went and made a coffee. My head was reeling... You're probably looking at £200+ to see a band play for 75 minutes. Old enough to remember going to see Rush at Hammersmith and the ticket was under £4.00. Five bands at the Lyceum for under £5.00. These prices seemed reasonable at the time, even adjusted for inflation.
  24. I'm not sure it's possible to change a project with a midi cc message. You can certainly change a sequence with a cc message within a project It's a workaround, but it would quickly get very messy and confusing if you had multiple songs you wanted to arrange into a set within a project
  25. Today
  26. I've got 2 tour support gigs, 31st oct in Birmingham, 1st Nov in Liverpool if anybody wanted to buy it at those locations. Cheers Martin
