Yes, I tried the limiter a bit last night; ultra quiet and very effective when needed.

martthebass started following Roasted vs Standard necks - Stability?
-
Just coming from the Short Scale Bass appreciation thread and noticed some comments coming up regarding roasted necks and stability of roasted, caramelised and standard necks. Rather than hijack that thread I thought a separate thread to discuss might be beneficial. For myself I've got 2 basses with roasted necks (EBMM DarkRay and EBMM Shorty Ray), 1 bass with a graphite neck (Status CW-1) and one with a standard maple neck. Of these the most stable is the Status (no surprise there), which was adjusted when I bought it over 4 years ago and never touched since, the next are the Sandberg and the DarkRay which I've tweaked twice in the last year and the worst is the shorty Ray which seems to move a little bit from month to month. A small sample group but not seeing a major difference which makes me think there are a number of factors at play....

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

There's a guy who "busks" in a local underpass who's guitar is well out of tune and doesn't sing. He obviously can't play it, and just strums the open strings. He uses his gig bag to collect money in, and has now kicked the bag into the centre of the underpass. He's been doing this for the past four years and has stayed exactly the same Years ago, me and the singer of the then current band used to go busking on a Saturday with acoustics Sometimes it was freezing and hard but Hifi Video recorders needed to be paid for 😁 -

Caramelisation is also a thermal treatment, and should not just a layer of caramel-coloured lacquer. That would be rather deceiving. I see the words roasted, baked, caramelized and torrefied used depending on the manufacturer, and usually they all indicate the wood has been heated / thermally treated. -

I have some - still have them in the bag as a backup, they do colour the sound a little but worse was the compression on them - if you use a compressor anyway you might not mind it (or you might like it for reasons that people use compressors) but it wasn't what I wanted.

For sale (no trades). Now discontinued. Markbass dual channel 500W bass head, inc Carry case / bag. I'm a fan of Markbass gear, and this head is really superb! The 2 input channels are separately EQ'ed and controlled - which is useful. Also, each channel has 6 individual preloaded amp tones. It's also possible to mix the sound of both channels, for real flexibility. It's in mint condition, as it has lived in the padded carry case since I bought it. It hasn't been over-used or abused and is a really reliable head which is great for all genres. I even used it for upright, and doubling up with bass guitar. I'm only selling now, as I got a brilliant Stanley Clarke Acoustic pedal, which also has 2 channels, so this is no longer being used. It's just too good to keep in a cupboard. The carry case / bag is also in good condition, and is really well padded - protecting the head well. It's simple to use, as the head stays in the bag while gigging (the fan is at the rear). It has a large pocket on the front / top - which you can fit several leads into. It also has the option of a carry-handle or shoulder straps. The case itself cost around £60. My one criticism of the head, is that it would be even better if the panel was illuminated... but my small clip-on light did the job. As ever, I prefer collection with expensive items - and I like to know the buyer is happy with the sound. Based in Barry, South Wales, and you're welcome to have a tea or coffee whilst giving the amp a whirl. I can post, at a push - if the buyer arranges a courier. (I'd prefer to insure).

In my experience, all DMX controllers need both the manual for the controller and the DMX protocol for the individual luminaires. I once bought some moni PARs where the factory had changed the DMX protocol in the MK2 but left the protocol for the MK1 in the user manual.

For sale, Moving on this lovely EBS HD350 as I have just bought a TD660, mainly due to my seemingly, increasingly loud drummer! I cant imagine too many players having that issue as it isn't a shrinking violet by any means. Offered in very good used condition and perfect working order. Anyhow, great construction and quality as you'd expect and lots of easily accessible eq variables, built in drive and compressor. I found it hard to make it sound bad, i dont usually have any issues in that department 😂 runs right down to 2 ohms so many cab arrangements are possible. Bought from BC and the seller stated that it had been serviced in the last 12 months, no documents but I have no reason to doubt him. The only thing I have noticed since getting my 660 is the mesh behind the front panel appears to be missing (presumed perished)? I guess this would be able to be replaced from EBS if you felt the need. A nearly new hard rack case, and uk postage included, completes the package. Cheers.

I can't see any explanation of caremelised on Harley Benton's site, but the cheap ones appear caramelised, and the more expensive are roasted. In all the press about roasted neck instruments, they mention the neck has been roasted to give extra stability, in all the caramelised ones they just mention it is a nicer colour. If I was to buy an HB with what I see on the net, I would assume that caramelised was just like the presidential tribute spray tan version!
