    Can confirm tape, as mentioned by stringray boy, works fine - you just need to be careful how you wrape it around the finger/s so that the end does not catch on strings when playing. One careful application will last a two hour gig and avoid blisters. Has saved me some sore digits many times when over rehearsing too close to gig or had daily gigs . After application, take a few minutes to get used to the "new" feel of the wrapped fingers on the strings - then it won't feel quite so odd when the gig starts. Also second advice above re volume - try and let the amp do the amplifying !

    Maybe give the Ampeg Venture a go? They can nail the SVT sound (and the B-15 sound) and they go all the way from a little 300W version up to a 1200W beast. Personally, as a former Ampeg user, I'm wary, just because Ampeg's last range of Class D heads had some major reliability issues, but the Ventures are supposed to be much better. But, once bitten and all that. Failing that, Ashdown. Maybe Aguilar. I've been using an Ashdown RM800 for years and it's been reliable, sounds great and, if I want to go down that slightly fuzzy road, it can do that, although its character is a bit different to an SVT-3.

    BEST BUY I would also like to add these to my best buy list. I started a thread - The Flats are off. Stating i have moved away from my Deep talking La Bella set on my CS 62 Precision. Well I have now traded it for the Bass above, but now discovered La Bella low tension flats, a completely different feel and lovely tone and guess what, they are now on all my basses. crazy world ain't it.

    Yes agreed, but the right degree of finishing (I went fine but not too fin with the sandpaper), and the right oil and wax and even a linear and relatively low contrast grain can look good, I'm about to do the same to this walnut body, although as you can see, I've been slightly more fortunate with the grain.....

    Having sanded a similarly finished bass - and regretted both the time and the results - I'd recommend a stripper, it will take a few coats and some elbow grease, but it will be a whole lot less hassle and will significantly reduce the risk of over-sanding

    it doesn't bother me at all, weird isn't it. I've got two Adam Clayton basses (for my U2 tribute) a Slash Les Paul, JMJ mustang and recently added a John Taylor Dingwall to the arsenal. But the Adam Clayton jazz bass looks lovely

    Hard to give a rational reason but it puts me off too... Not an issue with Adam Clayton, I like the bass but I'd want it to look more 'vintage' - like the Flea that just has an engraving on the neck plate.

    I'm reminded of the old Arion effects that were all 'stereo'. Fine for the Chorus, but a stereo compressor? As far as I could see it split the signal into wet and dry channels. Wish I still had it, I used that pedal live for years. It was probably crap... But the point is the three easiest ways to make a mono source stereo: Use the pan control to position it on the sound stage. Use a true stereo effect to split it into two close but different signals in each channel. Use two microphones (or di and one mic) to record so one is close up and one is 'roomy' with more ambience.

    With this circuit, centre position on the blend control means both pickups are connected direct to the master volume and tone controls, so that would be equivalent to both volumes maxed in a VVT setup as you say, needed to reject RF interference. Neck full / bridge 20% should also be achievable.

    Reduced to £325. This is more than worth it for the fuzz and filter circuits alone before all the bells and whistles!
