I'm down to 1 band from 3 last year. I'm not even sure if this band is functional. We played 3 gigs and it was like pulling teeth to get some rehearsals together beforehand. Drummer, Singer and Guitarist all leading very busy lives. My life is quite busy but I have Monday blocked out for rehearsals. "I can't do Monday this week, can we do Tuesday instead?"...

Talk to him and talk to the band. Your current drummer is already appearing to become a flake. You're not going to lose anything.

if i'd seen that bass in a shop i'd have not given it a second look and assumed it was a B-grade instrument. I'm not surprised with the reaction from GuitarGuitar in Newcastle, I've given up even going in (and it's now the only music shop in the city centre) on the few occasions i've popped in, every time with the intention of buying something the attitude of the staff has been awful, on one occasion i went in looking for an acoustic amp, with a 2k guitar in my hand and a budget up to 1k and they just seemed to have no interest in helping me at all. the Newcastle shop seems to be an exception for guitarguitar, the reports i've heard about their other shops have usually been pretty favourable, at some point i'm going to go and try the Edinburgh and Glasgow stores. out of interest @BigRedX - as well as getting it to work with your setup - how do you find it sounds?

I had the Mesa Subway D800 and it didn't seem particularly oomphy compared with my Quilter and a Magellan 800 that I had at the time. I found it a bit dark and flubby sounding. Gigged it twice and moved it on. But everyone's ears are different 🙂

This is usually the sticking point for a lot of bands. The other is getting the middle aged blokes with instruments to believe in the end product. It's frustrating if the end product is slick, but is let down when the drummer has a scowl on and is thinking his time would be better spent drinking pints of Carling down at the Spoons. Personally I would do a dry run. Get a mate to come to an rehearsal room. Get the band to wear what they're planning to wear. Video a 'live' warts and all performance. Mistakes don't matter. Then watch the resulting car crash back and work out how to improve it. At this point aforementioned drummer will realise how good even a rough video is and get his wife to iron his best shirt. There is nothing worse than looking like a bunch of misfits having paid a lot of money for the privilege.

A really great Mexican P bass from Fender! Bought new from Andertons in 2021 for a handful of gigs, and has been my backup P bass for a couple of years, but has spent most of its life on a guitar rack or in a case. All original apart from the Schaller strap locks (black). No case. Collection only from SW London.

Guitars? I thought everyone associated Hofner with this. Never saw anyone playing a Hofner guitar.
-
On the other hand I've never seen a 'name' band toting a Dingwall, for example, and the only Warwick player on my radar ever is/was Zender. Before the inevitable deluge, yes I'm sure there are multiple examples to prove my ignorance but that's the point But Hofner is a brand I'd associate more with guitars, more with jazz, and more with players on the continent - not so much the Anglosphere.

Now priced at £275 until midday Friday (my cut-off for going to the Post Office before Christmas). I've been collecting and pedal-testing solidly since COVID but a lot's been happening this year and, as my priorities are changing, it's time to start letting some of these pedals go, including those that six months ago it would have been unthinkable selling. I'm selling a Doom 2 in Jade Metallic finish. It's from the September 2023 release of 100 pedals and has been given the 'high gain' mod by Spencer at 3 Leaf Audio. The mod makes it a little harsher and more abrasive than the standard gain units but it gets synthy and still has the Doom 2 magic. The mod was originally aimed at guitar players so I'm pricing it at £320 £300 on here. Cosmic Metallic pedal sold. Original ad retained for transparency: Up on the block are a couple of Doom 2s, one being the standard gain unit (in Cosmic Metallic (the purple one)) SOLD and a high gain unit (in Jade Sparkle)). Both units are from the limited runs of 100 in 2023 and are the latest spec. £360 each (including UK Royal Mail Special Delivery postage). Neither has been used on a pedalboard and they're basically mint in box. The Wicked theme was not intentional. I'm not really looking for trades at this point but there are a handful of pedals I'm curious about: COG T-70 v2; Hamstead Subspace GE, and Chase Bliss Spectre.

Yeah, I was looking at the Ashdown RM 500 EVO III but wondered if the Mesa is on-brand and punches above the 350w rating on an ear test.
