G+L 2500 Tribute Versus Sire MM V7 5 String
Ben Jamin replied to Cornwall Steve's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, G&L all the way. The pre-amp and pick-ups sound ace and are really flexible and genuinely useful live. The bridge is indeed fabulous. Sires are great but it's just an active Jazz init. G&Ls will never be made again. -

Does anyone need something to do over the holiday period? Well here is your chance , as the December challenge is now at the voting stage we have the opportunity to commence for January. After a tie between @Al Nico @Leonard Smalls and @Chiliwailer I did a quick first past the post photo challenge this morning and the winner was.... Mr smalls , who has contributed the following to get your lips around ... "Tis a Raasay cask strength..." RULES ... β Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline. β No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on β Bagpipes, really! it maybe a wee dram on show , but be careful out there. β No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you.. Deadline-wise, we will keep the theme going and aim for breakfast time on Burns Night 25th January A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be grand. enjoy.

Trace Elliot - Rescue & Restore (and bargain finds)
Rosie C replied to SimonK's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for all the responses. To answer the various questions: I don't know if it's the right foot switch for the amp - it came with the amp, but it was an estate sale so there's room for error The problem seems limited to the foot switches, it works fine when I just use the front panel switches None of the switches seem to be latching, they are just momentary Our best guess is that as @Sparky Mark says, the foot switches need some switch cleaner and a bit of use In other news, I had a friend stay over Christmas and she's an electronics engineer, so we took the amp apart to look at the front panel illumination. Inside the amp: Confirmation of the age: It turns out it didn't need great electronics skill. The front panel is connected to this board, and there is a 2-pin connector on the board (yellow ellipses) which comes directly from the mains transformer (yellow arrow). So the panel AND its drive circuit have been disconnected all this time! I had worried that maybe the panel was disconnected but the driver had still been live and was possibly damaged. I re-plugged the connector, and voila! Mmmm! While we had the case open, I took a photo of the power supply capacitors. There's a bit of 100Hz hum on the speakers and we're suspecting dried out capacitors. There's a bit of work to do to remove them though. -
Even though I've now sold my gig rig and spare amp, I feel a bit reluctant to sell this bag, as it took me a lot of searching to track down at the time. A great, nicely padded bag. I used it for a few years but it's still in very good condition. All of the zips function as they should, there are no rips and as can be seen in the photos, very little wear. Size is approx. 30 cm x 30 cm. 34 cm high. Β£35 collected. If you want it posted, then I estimate that it will be an additional Β£7-Β£8.

I owned a later 715 peavey era GP7 amp with the BF-4 foot switch ( there was also a BF-6 for GP12's, both with the DIN multi cable). I seem to recall that the best way to set up was to connect the foot switch before powering up and also ensure all the switches or buttons were in the off/out position on the amp front panel and not to use the front panel buttons at all while things were powered on. Slightly off topic but the same thing applied to Ashdown's remote foot switch for ABM heads, always connect before powering up and leave all front panel buttons in the out position. -

I got the MXR Bass Synth! Chuffed! -
The BH250 was the first class-d head I owned and it's scary to think these have been around for over a decade now. Great little amps and featured packed for not much cost. Surprisingly loud as well for such a compact unit. Also make a great desktop recording interface and home practice amp with the headphone out. I've just bought another small class-d head or I would have jumped at such a bargain. Jezz is a top dude, buy with confidence! GLWTS.

Β£414.70 including buyers proetection fee. Thats a steal for at twice the price rig like this (with a proper foam suspended case for the head as well). Yes of course its too big and too heavy and you'll probably never need to turn it up anywhere past ten o'clock but still, what a machine. It's kind of like a Harley-Davidson. Utterly unnecesary but really quite wonderful. Or I suppose thats how motorbike owners feel about them? Not one myself so theres an element of speculation there... -

I tidy cales away using the 'figure of eight' method; I finish by lifting it up from each side (left and right...), and put a Velcro band around it to keep it as a loop. No tangles, no twists. Works with all types of cables, and garden hoses. Hope this helps.
