  2. Hi Folks, Really beautiful roasted maple neck built to 50s specs for Fender's 'Vintera' line - perfect for those who like a thicker neck. This Neck is in perfect condition and all the fretwork is immaculate. Unfortunately for me I find the Jazz style neck much more comfortable so I've swapped this one out. Neck Finish: Gloss Urethane Neck Material: Maple Neck Shape: Vintage "C" Number of Frets: 20 Nut Material: Synthetic Bone Nut Width: 1.75" (44.45 mm) Orientation: Right-Hand Full specs on Fender serial lookup using SN: MX21191736 Fender sell the same neck as a replacement neck new for £489.99 here: https://uk.fender.com/products/roasted-maple-vintera-50s-precision-bass-neck-20-vintage-frets-725-c-shape Worth mentioning here that the truss rod adjustment is placed at the bottom of the neck, staying true to the 50s design. If you have any questions or would like to see more pictures please let me know. Would prefer local pickup/dropoff in South London, but can discuss posting in the box that the replacement came in if you're really interested. Thanks
  3. Thanks. I've seen these mentioned a lot, I'll try them one day for sure. Thanks. Never tried DR, but heard good things about them. Added these to the list to try someday. In what other ways did you prefer NYXL to the normal XL? I'm after nickel rounds with as smooth a feel as possible, reduced finger squeak and a well balanced sound (ie not too middy, boomy or grindy), would consider anything that fits this description. It's a bonus if they don't take ages to get the new string zing out of them! I like a fairly bright sound (I play with the tone wide open) but perhaps slightly less than I used to - I used Roto RS66LDN nickels for a while, think I'd find them perhaps a bit too bright now, they seemed to take forever to settle in when now from what I recall. Not greatly concerned about lifespan, as I'll change them once or twice a year regardless (I imagine I play less often / shorter sets, than a lot of people here). Meanwhile I'll keep searching and adding to the shortlist to try out. If there was some sort of brightness chart / smoothness ranking for popular nickel rounds, that would be most helpful.
  4. Andertons price is £449 which is inline with the other Bassrigs. Am I right in thinking that if I wanted to have drive, I would have to stop playing, turn the drive dial to suit and then start playing again? There is no way to play with a clean tone and then kick in the drive to switch to a dirty tone on the fly?
  5. As you bring in more gain with both the Behringer and Soundcraft units, you can hear the noise in a quiet environment. It is much lower on the CQ series. I have not used the Ui24R from Soundcraft, but that has uprated preamps and is also reportedly very good. Dave Rat has an interesting video on the Behringer V Midas X32 mixers where he shows that the Midas version really does have better pre-amps and uprated A/D converters, sleight of hand on the specs of the Behringer show no difference, but in reality the Midas are a lot better. Whether this translates into a better end product is open to debate. I had a Soundcraft Ui16 for a while and the difference between that and the CQ20 is very noticeable. Whether all Midas consoles are that much better than the equivalent Behringer is unclear but seems likely.
  6. I've always wanted to play What's the Frequency, Kenneth? It's never happened and isn't likely to. I love that bass line.
  7. I want one but it will have to wait until after the expense of Christmas. And my youngest has her driving test tomorrow so car insurance might suddenly be mindblowing.
  8. I've retired from double bass playing, so this has to go. Bought in 2014ish from the US, it's seen lots of home use but hardly ever taken on gigs. I have little to compare it to, but it's always felt very comfortable even on long practice sessions. Small chip on the top side near the adjuster which I've done my best to photograph. Rehaired last month by Adrian Warrick strings in Byfleet. Ebony frog, abalone inlay, ebony adjuster, 69.5cm length, includes case. It's the satin black model on the Finale site : https://www.stringemporium.com/finale-bass-bows.htm Current new price is $480 including shipping, not sure what the import duty would be. I'm asking £230 delivered to mainland UK, if you want to come and try it then I'll knock money off for collection.
  9. The problem with crimp, especially those Faston crimps, is that they vary in quality. Some are too tight to fit on the blade and others are just too loose. At the speaker end, the issue is more that it is hard to keep the soldering iron away from the magnet. As for sealing the speakons, the speakons themselves usually form a reasonable seal with the panel. Jacks are a different matter. There are very few jacks that are sealed, and I once borrowed a cab the kept whistling. Of course, we all like a happy cabinet, but it was disturbing. The temporary solution was to put a jack plug into the unused socket. The long term solution, if you MUST use a jack plug, is to use the Cliff S1K Sealed Jacks. These can be purchased from RS, Cliff sealed jacks. Here is the PDF of the range. Cliff Data Sheet It should be remembered that these are rated at 5 amps. So 200 Watts into 8 ohms or 125 Watts into 4 ohms. OK for gig bag amps lie the Elf and Gnome but anything else use speakons.

  18. Demos sound good so far 🙂
  19. Thanks for that .🙂
  20. great preamp I use it a lot , good luck with the sale
  21. Sorry Dan, I somehow hissed your post. Just message me if still want to buy. Thanks.
  22. Thanks Al, the fact you could hear a clear improvement is interesting and helpful. Still interested in comparisons to the Behringer - at less than half the price and 10+ years older tech, I don't doubt the A&H has the edge, but how obvious is it to a discerning ear?
  23. That's interesting! I guess not quite your thing then. Out of interest how much did you sell it for?
  24. I bought this a couple of years back and did it up. It was professionally set up and restrung but I am just not using it. We were playing 80s alternative songs on folk instruments BUT I quickly got sick of taking several instruments to gigs and seem to have settled on using less. I added the fitted case, bought brand new from Gear 4 Music. The action is pretty decent and these are loads of fun / easy to play. I have it strung G-D-A-E but you can tune it C-G-D-A or like the top 4 strings of a guitar. Happy to meet Swindon - Newbury way which can be discussed via DM. Thanks for looking.
