Ours was a bit different for me in that I played guitar - 1st time ever in a band. I was finding it a hassle to get guitar players when ours couldn’t do jam night, and thought bass players would be easier to sort out. So I decided to learn to play properly. So for the last year or so I’ve been doing on line guitar lessons. This month’s jam night became the “well if you are going to play live, it’s now or give up” time. It was much easier to get one of the bass players to fill in with us. It went pretty well. A few bum notes, but probably of the “audience won’t have noticed” variety. We screwed up “Don’t look back in anger” - the singer going to a 2nd chorus when it should have been the instrumental and me not sorting out how to fix it quickly enough. I think if I were MD on bass it would have been unnoticeable to the audience, but on guitar I took me too long to get back to the chorus chords to think about where to go next and tell the rest of the band. We managed to sort it and finish it ok. A learning / experience point. We got good feedback from the audience. So overall pretty happy with it.

Apples and Oranges and all that stuff, I suppose. I've used NI software for years and can't say I've had any notable problems with them. They are just part of the furniture for me, which is just as well, because a lot of my 3rd party VI sample libraries require Kontakt.

Hello, I'm selling this MXR Bass Compressor. It's in almost new condition, with the original box. I'm sure everyone knows what to expect with these now - a nice and natural sounding comp, that's easy to use, with great visual metering too. I'm asking £115, which includes next day delivery. Any questions, shoot me a message. Thanks.

Hello, Very cool little Boss modeller for sale. Sounds great but I'm just not a modelling guy, I'm admitting defeat. Boxed, also comes with additional Bright Onion switch. £350 delivered please. Would consider trades for bass gear - amps, basses (J flavoured), whatever... In good condition, a few scratches on the bottom as pictured. Album with lots of photos here: https://imgur.com/a/9pniK6g

I Have tried a few budget basses over the years including Harley Benton, J and D, Vintage , artist hybrid , Squier , Peavey, yamaha not yet tried the Budget Mark basses . thats probably next on my list to look at. all have been very good for the price point , i have actually gigged with these basses just to try them out and never had any issues with any of them if you go down the Fender copy route you can always upgrade the electronics etc if you feel the need as there are parts widely available.

so did you sack him just because of his drink driving? not very rock and roll

The bass player in one of my first funk bands in the late 70's had a fender jazz and a columbus copy, we used to do quite a bit of studio recordings back then and the producer/engineer always preferred the sound of his columbus. -

Not sure if anyone's mentioned them, but Italia were flavour of the month for about five minutes in the late 2000s. -

Yeah, another vote for keeping the thin pink line. This is coming together so nicely.

Well Ive had just about all of the Fender style P basses over the years and I'll end my days with my current CV 70 in walnut. Incredible build quality and playability and as with just about all of them, would benefit from a PU upgrade tho it doesn't bother me at all, but thats it.

We had to sack a guitarist because of a combination of serious substance-abuse problems (*), poorly cared-for gear (we never knew if it would work!) and erratic playing where sometimes he'd completely forget what he was meant to be playing, or launch into a loud and unrelated solo in the middle of a verse. After quite a while of tolerating this and attempting to get him to change his ways we saw nothing was changing and had to boot him out. He still doesn't understand what the problem was, despite having been told numerous times! * once we were playing in Manchester... About 30 minutes before we were due to go on there was no sign of him. I rushed out, and knowing what he was like, searched the nether-regions of Piccadilly station where I found him sniffing white powder with some ne'er do wells. He didn't play well either!
