Having my first bass lesson today after 44 years

I've no advice to give, but congratulations on getting a JT Dingwall, and on starting on lessons! John Taylor inspired me to take up bass, though I've never really been able to play his lines -

Very good condition, comes with box and power supply. Excellent for guitar, very good for bass. They usually go for a lot more but I'm selling this just to recover what it owes me. Really good pedal, used it for my last gig. Bass gear is well covered, 7x usable amp Sims, cab Sims, Darkglass distortion, plus all the other guitar effects and amps. You can do parallel processing, add external pedals, endless possibilities. I love it for the touch screen editing, only use the PC to backup settings and a firmware update when I first got it. Collect from St Albans area or will post for a fiver.

Behold my collection of vintage Peavey basses! I’ve had most of these for a long time now but I’m moving into a stage in my life where I no longer play in a band, or gig at all. So realistically I no longer need these. Gulp. I’ve sold so much of my collection over the last few years, to buy things to use for home recording. Somehow these keep avoiding the cull!! those who’ve seriously trimmed down on their collection of splendid things… did you regret it?!

uk_lefty started following Boss VE-20 Vocal Effects pedal
-
Boss VE-20. You can Google for all the details but here's my view after a fair while owning it... It's superb for finessing and evening out vocals for performance or home recording. Like any pedal you need to get the gain right if going through a PA. It can do some nice stuff like adding a second and third part harmony to your voice. It can "double" up your voice to add extra presence, it really doesn't sound like there's any delays, it's just a good thickening of the sound. Overall its great, if I did loads of home recording I wouldn't be selling it. As it is I'm just not getting the use out of it and was really only using the "megaphone" effect for the mid 8 in one song while playing live. I just need to get back the money it cost me as I've already spent the proceeds. Collection from St Albans area or I can post for a fiver. PM me with any questions. Pretty sure I have the original box.

I got a big cheese Musikding kit for Christmas - which is exciting. ive got a few other things that I would like to try, but kinda want to do another pcb design and assembly again next year - any ideas what it would be good to do? Last year was the mini prunes and custards - and I ended up selling 9 of them … kinda want to avoid that again, but equally pcb A is expensive if you end up with 9 unused and populated boards! not sure what to make, my guidelines would be interesting on bass not in current production prob not something that I can easily get from Musikding as a kit. I don’t mind developing have mods or tunings for something. one suggestion was a mk2 octabvre which someone has and said I could trace in a non destructive way - would have to work out cap values on breadboard though!

It’s worth having a good compressor in your pedal chain, especially if playing with fingers. Experimenting with dynamics is fun. Like everything, you’ll make rapid progress with structured practice. -
My final gig of 2025, with the Elton John tribute, at Bibi’s in Leeds. The usual matinee and evening gigs, both really well attended with the audience up for singing and dancing. Its a long day with travelling and a gap between sets so I came prepared and had a nap in my car between sets. As ever, plenty of good food, good vibes and a lovely way to round off my year musically. The usual rig of P bass and Yamaha basses (for the different 70s and 80s sounds), Markbass Traveller cabs, Little Mark II head and effects board. Just about managed to cram it all, along with the drumkit (and drummer) in my car. Long live old Volvo estates.

Owned from new for around 12yrs, I bought this from Thomann and had it set up for Rockabilly. It definitely feels a step up from the entry level basses and I have used it live a lot. Most of its life has been more of feature in my living room though. The last couple of years I have been coming to terms with the fact that I need to sell it. Space is at a premium, it rarely gets used and I am of an age where the EUB seems the easier option. The specs are here Thomann link if anyone is interested. I added a pickup which has been useful. I can’t recall the make but it was quite a decent one, Shadow, I seem to remember. There is a tatty (by my high standards) gig bag and the strings are currently Gut-A-Like vintage ones Gut A Like strings You’ll see I added a few stickers. These should be fairly easy to remove. I’m happy to do it, or I can leave it. Equally I am happy to add more pictures. It’s currently lent against the wall in my place in Hungerford, where I am Sunday to Thursday evenings. Postage looks too hard to do so it would be a collection. I have gotten it in a Peugeot 107 before - not comfortably, so perhaps don’t bring the family if collecting!

not bass related but got a real tie it yourself bowtie this is so I can untie it, after dinner, and look a bit more like Daniel Craig's Bond Mum sent me 100 quid which I've put towards my Dingwall Just like @NancyJohnson we tend to buy what we want, when we want it but this year Christmas was about having friends round for lunch, wine and games -

well I'm glad to report that I'm not too far out with what my mate has told me but after my playing 2 days ago, my plucking fingers are sore, so I need more playing hours to build up calluses on my fingers shorter nails works for me too -
Asllan Pizzatto started following Badass Bass II peeled saddle.

Good evening, friends. One of the saddles on my Badass Bass II has peeled and I'm looking to replace it. All Parts sells saddle kits on their website, but since All Parts acquired Leo Quan, I've become somewhat concerned about the quality standards. Do you know if the quality standards remain the same as before? Is it worth replacing just the saddles or the entire bridge? The bridge is practically new.
