Given they have the same neckpocket-interface, I tested it via a neck swap. That maple cap makes it way more raunchy, even on the warm PV-pickup.

I use the NUX Mighty Plug and am totally happy with it. Yes I'd like the complety wireless option of the more expensive options @tauzero mentions but I don't want to spend that much. I just use a short wire to my headphones so it doesn't get snagged on stuff, it just goes under the neck and up to my headphones without much spare. The Mighty Plug has an app which let's you set up 6 (I think) different patches with amp/cab/effects etc on each patch. You don't need to use the app to use the Mighty Plug, just to edit the patches. You can bluetooth music into it to blend with your basses output. I really like it.

My Jazz was probably strung with flats, hence me trying black nylon tapewound (they looked cool, but burnt my fingers when I slid on them).

I presume the My Generation solo was played using flats. I know it was a Jazz and likely to be before rounds had been invented. I have a recollection that the strings were only available on new basses and he used more than one. That could be my memory playing tricks on me.

I haven't jumped in on a few posts inter-related but I will now because this perfectly answers your question. My first bass was a '72 Jazz Bass. I don't know what strings were on it, but at some point due to advertisments in Bass Player Magazine I tried flats, black tapewounds, picks... A shift in influences led me to Rotosound Roundwounds, the Holy Grail and in the US half the price of my Jazz, so... Ernie Balls to the rescue, then D'addario, then roundwounds on my fretless P bass also. So you have to shave the neck once in a while. Roundwounds.

Vovox look excellent, though if venturing into that kind of territory, Evidence Audio also offer an exceptional range. The Lyric HG is very stiff and I wouldn't recommend it for general live use (though superb for recording). The Forte is a heavy cable, but perfectly flexible and again, characterised by exceptional build quality and robustness. Lots of good advice in the posts above too.

Why would you not try it? A proper pickup is worth the money they cost. 🤷

Well, the flats/Jazz combo was good enough for John Paul Jones on the classic Led Zep stuff, and in recent yerars Flea has been sporting flats on his Jazz basses, so at least you're in good company.

I'd consider it for practice or in the studio but on stage I have an irrational (heh see!) fear of using pedals during a performance. I'm just paranoid that cables will get tangled or me or someone else will step on it by accident or unplug it. My tuner and distortion pedals live in front of the amp at the back of the stage and I strictly forbid any of my band mates from going anywhere near them lol
