I remember trying to let the other three guys in our band down gently. "John, George, Ringo, I'm looking for something with more of a future," I said. Hung around until the new guy kicked in. Never seen any of them since, but folk who have, tell me they did a couple of albums, got played on the radio, etc. The new bass-guy even made a little bit of cash from writing some material. Maybe I should have stayed? Oh, how I long for yesterday.

This glue sounds great especially being able to clean up with a damp cloth. Definitely has the edge over super glue in that regard. I think I'll invest in a bottle!

Oh...and, you never know with such things, but based on the photos and where the crack actually is, I would be very surprised, if done as above and from what I can see in the photo, if the resulting mend was not strong enough.

High Quality 3/4 DB Gigbag - suggestions?
Duckyincarnate replied to Happy Jack's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Useful thread, thanks everyone. I have just gotten seven years of use out of this Roth and Junius bag which seems alright, given that I am schlepping it all around town and on the Tube, and not just in and out of a car like many. It's starting to fail in the zip now, and open seam around the neck joint and just general wear of the fabric. I did look at a Soundwear last time (£650 then) but it was too roomy for my bass, and they stopped making a 1/2 size one. Might try the fancier R&J this time around, or splurge on a TuffBag. -

The one in The Gallery is a nice thing. I tried it the other day. Thin neck, nice tone, looks the part. My reservation is that I think it might be a bit pricey for what it is. But I guess the gallery has overheads that we don't. Your shortscale will undoubtedly be nicer to play, and what with these both being quite 'thumpy' semi acoustic basses, I doubt the scale length will make any real diff to the tone. GLWTS!- 4 replies

Yes - this ^^^^ I've never used Super 'Phatic (it sounds great!) but you can certainly do the same thing with extra-low-viscosity CA glue (number of makers/suppliers but it is easy to get hold of and is a specialist 'super glue' that is much, much thinner than the standard stuff ) As @Stub Mandrel says, capillary action sucks the glue deep into the joint. Masking tape right up to the edge is essential with CA glue, though, and after peeling it off, probably would need scraping with a razor blade to clean it up - and this might be where the super-phatic may well have the edge if it is water-based. If you're fast with your fingers, you could even squirt the glue into the crack while the string tension is on, maximising the opening, then immediately release the tension when the glue's in there and, as @Stub Mandrel says, pop the pre-prepared clamps on.

I get Jon Shuker to do any work like that on my basses - I'm sure that he compares very well with the Bass Gallery, as will several other of the top guys around the country.

Hi again, sorry for the delay, that pesky little work thing sometimes gets in the way of being a speaker geek... 😒 I'd disagree with Bill about the resistors, assuming I'm right in reading that you want to pair that tweeter with a one x 10" box, right? On that basis, it's likely that the tweeter will be too bright on its own without some attenuation. As I alluded to before, if you can transfer over the associated wiring & switch in their original configuration, that gives you the option of using the switch to match the response a bit - obviously, assuming you were happy with the voicing that Ashdown used in the first place. By that, I mean you might find the high setting gives a good balance when using both 10s together and the low setting might better balance the sound with just a single 10. To that end, I'd try and work out what the switch was doing - it could be as simple as selecting which of 2 different value resistors is in series with the driver, giving different levels of attenuation for example. Re the ME15-2008, it's certainly worth a try if you get the satisfaction out of working on a project, the TSP's Bill found suggest that it might (depending on your taste) be OK with the original port, or might be better with the port sealed entirely. Here's the predicted response in 95l tuned to 50Hz (green), and the same volume sealed (blue): (I've used 95l to account for the volume of the backside of the driver and any other inclusions such as bracing etc - it'll only be making a few tenths of a dB difference though.) The vented box doesn't have a whole lot more low bass than the sealed, confirming that this box size is smaller than ideal if really deep bass were the goal. It's also got a bit of a baked in tone of it's own, due to that 3dB hump in the upper bass. That might or might not suit your ideas of good tone, it's entirely up to you. The sealed box will be a little lighter on bass overall, but may sound a tiny bit more neutral due to missing the hump. Neither one looks catastrophically bad in terms of "typical" bass cab low frequency responses though. Note that the cab mostly only affects the response in the bottom 2-3 octaves, as I've shown in the graph above - most of the rest of the character of a given driver is independent of the cab. I guess if I were you I'd go ahead and make up a new baffle to fit the driver and simply try it as-is, bearing in mind that if you want to try the sealed option that's as simple (for a quick & dirty test at least) as stuffing a teatowel or 2 in the ports to block them off. Cheers, D.

Thanks for that one, I’ve got a bit of a drive now so will check that out

The one on the core is very cool, you can set parameters like Pattern via assigns to oscillate through options etc to give a cool glitch effect

I decided if I was going to buy a piece of synth gear that was going to gather dust I'ld pay £50 more and pick up a Microkorg 2 or similar (I've no idea if it's any good, not spent any time on synthchat finding out)

I think it really helps that he comes from a different background. Same as Josh &co of JHS show - they make content as a side show of their online bass lessons company/pedal company so don't rely on clickbait to survive - like if he wanted to do a hour long video about some really dull bass related thing with no commercial side to it- say making a mute out of a bit of foam you could buy in Lidl, he could and it would appear just as genuine as if he was pitching some product he's involved in.

Fake your own death? If they're all sound then I'm sure they'll understand if you just have an (reasonably) honest chat with them, but I'd lean more towards it being an issue with you rather than saying 'you lot are going nowhere, I'm off'. It sounds like gigs aren't on the cards? So you're under no obligation to play x amount of upcoming shows and sticking around for too long but, I'd offer to stick at it for a month or 2 until they find a replacement just to keep it civil.

Nashville gigs are very poorly paid in general. Even tours with well known artists might only pay $200 per show (with all expenses covered obviously). Small fish in a big pond comes to mind!

Yeah the time I left a band through "not feeling it" was more due to the drive to their rehearsal rooms. In summer it was 45 mins through country lanes, a very nice drive in fact, but I knew once it was winter I`d get the hump with it in the rain and the dark with no lighting, so better to walk now. They understood, I stayed on til they got a replacement and played the first gig the band did, which was a great laugh.
