Used to regularly visit Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road as a kid, but the shop I remember most fondly, and the cause of my Peavey T40 gas was Nolan's in Forest Hill, South London. Run by two very friendly Irish guys. Had one of their own amps, a very good, but very impractical copy of a Fender Twin.

Lol don’t you find that when you start learning a new phrase then leave it for a while it makes much more sense and feels natural? I didn’t know about the nux or valetron. I’ll look into it.

Two others. Light coloured basses. They look huge on me. I'd love a white precision, a la Pete Farndon etc, but I know it'd look daft on me. Buyers (not sellers) who give no indication of their approach to the seller. It raises a level of expectation if there's no recorded interest, and you find the item sold.

anyone here with any skills want to check a schematic I've bodged together?

It looks like the very worst attempt at a 'custom colour over another colour' I've ever seen. And the fretboard looks filthy. Personally, there's no way I could own that without refinishing it, even if it's just back to natural. At that price, once you factor in the £500 for stripping/refinishing and a good setup, you're looking at around £1800-2000 all in. You see decent condition original 77-81 Precisions for those kind of prices all the the time now at places like Bass Bros, so not really worth it.

I don’t normally go for the late 70s ones and usually i like as original as poss but I’ve got a strange attraction to this 77, I was looking for an early P bass to just leave at the studio , been watching it for ages https://ebay.us/m/wkghNy

I suspect this is a redundant post, butbI bought something from Jack and it was all good. No one is surprised.

Saturday we played our much-hyped (and I mean much-hyped, I don't think as much effort has gone into promoting a gig since I've been a member) gig at The Hop in Wakefield. Our guitarist Jen is a local to the area (three of the others are all from over Bratford way) so had been going mad with excitement for the last month and there had been a great many posts on "the socials" including from her employer. She had gathered a huge list of shout outs that she wanted to do but which we had to quite sensibly curtail - I made the point that with the amount she wanted to do we may as well ditch the set list and just do shout outs! The venue was reasonably compact but a nice size, and the stage was a decent size. It was a warm evening so we managed to get the AC turned on above us, but it was pretty useless and so it was a pretty sweaty one. I decided to go with my Sire V7, Ashdown ABM and the trusty Barefaced cab, with the Elf on standby just in case. During soundcheck everything sounded OK but the on-stage sound during the gig was very hit and miss - there were a few songs where we were relying on some sequenced drum tracks to keep the drummer in time, and thence to keep the rest of us in time, but there were a few songs where he could barely hear it and so we went a bit wrong on a few occasions, notably during the bass solo of Club Foot where I made a right hash of things. For the most part though things went pretty well, playing-wise, and our newly-prepped track Shout was amazing to play live, as well as giving me a chance to break out the Mooer octave pedal I got for Christmas! The atmosphere in the venue was absolutely tremendous, and playing issues aside one of the best gigs I've had with the band. Our guitarist's husband even went so far as to say he thought it was the best one he'd seen of us. People were up and dancing and singing right from the start, and the number that did so only increased through the night. We played two encores and left them wanting more - I was at the bar getting a drink afterwards and two lads were talking to each other about whether we were coming back on or not, and were disappointed when I told them we were done. My next door neighbours came to see me and looked like they were having a great time, possibly too great as they left immediately after we'd finished. We'd priced ourselves as low as we'd normally go to get the gig, but from what I was told they took almost double behind the bar what they'd normally take on a Saturday night. We hope we'll be invited back after that, and we'll definitely be pushing for a bit more in the way of fee. It's an Ossett Brewery pub, and we were told that they would pass on our details to others owned by the brewery, so fingers crossed. I think someone from another pub may have been in that night because we got an enquiry over Messenger during our mid-set break. Hopefully this will lead to us getting a few more diverse gigs for next year.

In one band I get a lift to gigs with the guitarist. Lately I've had to ask him to turn down the volume on the satnav. It's so loud it's hurting my ears!!
-
Always used one, you can still wander like 0.25mm if the step drill head "grabs" the holes on left and right sides, and then these add up to 0.5mm... 😀 And I have no room for a press drill so just have to steady the hands.

+1 Bassgear was a great place. Played my first Fodera basses there.

This one on eBay is inviting offers for his 78 P bass. I wouldn't know where to start putting right what ever the hell he's done to the paint job. Apart from that, I dunno. Its got an old Badass, which I think is pretty cool, but apart from that there might be a decent bass in there, even if it currently looks like a dog's dinner. It's not silly money, but still too much for the condition (to me): https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267360313595?mkevt=1&mkpid=2&emsid=e90001.m161799.l174482&plmtId=700008&mesgId=3015&mkcid=8&ch=osgood&bu=43398990830&trkId=047e9bb3-4020-33a3-9807-5e8107c4e99f&cnvId=700003&recoId=267360313595&recoPos=1

Most of the deaf guitarists I know are in denial. They wouldn't acknowledge they have a problem if you paid them. A couple are wearing hearing aids as well. Their hearing is obviously shot they're still playing way too loud.

Hi kiat, more than happy to give advice but not really any need for me to travel to Bass Bashes out of area because a) one a year is enough and b) people tell me that I have the best in the country on my doorstep. (Sorry if that sounds immodest, it's not meant to 🙂). My best suggestion would be for you to come along to ours. That will tell you all you need to know. Otherwise, just jump on at the bottom of the learning curve in the way you've already suggested. I'd say you need between 10 and 20 attendees bringing lots of gear to qualify as an 'event' rather than just a few mates getting together for a chat. However, you may need to start small before you can get bigger. From memory though, our first Bash in 2017 was very well attended and that's been the case ever since except for the pandemic year. We've found that presentations like our amp and cab shoot-outs and diy cab-build workshops have generated a lot of interest but you need people who have the knowledge and know how to present it. The other big seller for ours is all-day catering laid on by Mrs. Scrumpy and the Scrumpettes. That part of it is damned hard work by an excellent cook for a couple of days though.

Nice one. Learn to love it. It’ll pay you back in spades.

It looks incredible. I've noodled on a few in between Bass Direct and BassBros and think they're incredible. The unfortunate thing (for me at least) is I don't get on with Bart pickups. I know what you mean about the string spacing. My Fender Player Plus Jazz V has 19mm spacing and when I tried its newer replacement I could feel it even though we're talking a fraction of a millimetre.
