I quite enjoyed that, had no idea he was a guitar collector mind, amazing 😳 I liked the way he tries to improve his collection by swapping out guitars with dings and dents for a similar model that's in better condition. Safe to say he's not a fan of the relic look then 😆

I'll not get a chance to listen to it until later, but is it more "Looking through Robert Smith's eyes..." or "She's got Robert Smith's eyes"? 😄

Ernie Ball Pino Palladino flatwounds - £90 a set
Beedster replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
Well they are precision polished, which perhaps suggests that the standard strings aren't precision polished, merely polished imprecisely -
This is what it boils down to. If you like the sound of 15s (and don't mind carrying them), the technical arguments are irrelevant, even if they are true. If you are happy with the sound you make, you will be more relaxed and confident and play better.

I've got a lot of time for this guy, even if he has a sign in his workshop which says "I DON'T BUILD BASS GUITARS"

How much better can they be than the tried & tested likes of La Bella etc? Are the silks made from unicorn manes? -

Really enjoyed listening to those. Both tracks sound great. 😎

Pure nickel, I would say.

LewisK1975 started following Loud pick ups ?

Yep - On PJ Basses, I've always raised the J pickup to be a little closer to the strings than the P pickup for this very reason.

Whole set still cheaper than a single decent DB string But, yeh, they seem really expensive by the standards of electric bass strings, at least with DB strings there really - or usually is - is a noticeable difference in quality and tone as you go up through the price bands, I wonder if the same's true here? -

P pickups generally have more wounds on the coils, increasing DC resistance, which increases output, the two halves are also connected din series, which again, among other things, increases the output. The J pickups only got on coil, and usually with fewer wounds on the coil than your typical P pickup. Finally the strings vibrate more nearer the neck, and less towards the bridge, which effects the strength of the "input" signal to the pickups. The signal the J pickup picks up is simply weaker to begin with than the signal the P pickup picks up. Other than that it is possible that the P pickups got stronger magnets installed, increasing the strength of the magnetic field, which again increases output. It's pretty common by the way that the P in a P/J Bass is louder than the J pickup. But they can be balanced, if one uses a weaker P pickup and a stronger J pickup. Often though in a P/J you just use the J pickup for adding extra upper range flavor to the P pickup, and usually won't solo the J pickup.

What are you listening to right now?

Well produced, beautifully played, and arranged. You can get so much from it, but it's not a great song IMO. - Today

What types of effect could be used in this solo?
Baloney Balderdash replied to kuetsum's topic in Effects
Oh, it is definitely an EHX POG in some form, yes looks like the Mirco, if OP should want to nail the exact tone. But just about any decent polyphonic octave up pedal should do. -
My money’s on a Micro POG. Pretty sure you can see it at about 7:02 if you zoom into the pedalboard…

Speaking of stands - and who isn't these days? - I have this 3-slot Tiger stand going spare to anyone who's interested - no money will change hands. I'll bring it along on Saturday.

Fair point although I was referring to the need to record detail not the specifics of the mic 👍

Will Basschat survive the Online Safety Act?

It's the online equivalent of trying to get served in pubs when you're underage - been going on since the beginning of rules/controls on the matter. You're never going to stop them trying, bless. -
What types of effect could be used in this solo?
Baloney Balderdash replied to kuetsum's topic in Effects
Well, the octave up would be blended with parallel clean signal, my best guess in about equal measures, just using the regular dry/clean signal blend on your octave pedal. And there is a keyboard playing too, which might confuse you. -
Much appreciated that, Does it sounds like a two channel to you? It feels like separated layer from the dry and wet signal in the video
