  3. Funny, I was thinking about posting some love for HB flats and searched first! Basically I concur with all of the above 😄 They have a mid forward sound which I found close to TI jazz flats - albeit a bit more mellow. Not much in the way of thump or low bass, very different from LaBella DTF voicing - possibly a result of being light gauge? They feel smooth but not highly polished. No “grabiness” like I’ve experienced with TIs. Basically an affordable, easy to play flat with low-ish tension and a general purpose voicing that sits right where you’d expect. I read somewhere (not sure if it was here) that they might be rebadged Olympias. Olympia do sell a 45-100 flatwound set for £19.99 on eBay but I’m too tight to risk the extra £7.89 to find out whether they’re the same! Anyway on the back of these I tried HB “HQS” steels and they went straight in the bin.
  4. Perfect for the start of "Blockbuster"
  5. Seems more complex according to this diagram:
  6. Beautiful fretboard wood doesn't need spots on it. That bass looks so wonderful.

    Vigier Porn!

This French lady just jumped to my bed.
  8. @neepheid It's nothing taxing Matt. Instead of pairing white/red as hot on the Vol pot you stick red on Tone pot lug 3. Just minded, I gutted one and stuck a preamp in it 🤣
  9. cheers Mark , it’s lovely just needs playing

  11. Just seen this on a fBook thread: "I was just playing on my studio, as usual, suddenly I hear a few loud pops. a few minutes later, again but much worse and for longer, I look at the CQ-18T screen and it was like all the channels had very loud inputs and the screen was flickering..." Those symptoms seem pretty identical to what I've been getting. Which is kinda worrying that this might be a design flaw. However, he did follow up with this: "Update - I think I've found the issue!! I've moved some cables recently and I left one of the outputs cables running in parallel to a power cable. Once I re-organized the cables it didn't happen again." No idea what he meant by "running in parallel to a power cable" or whether that gives any wiser folk than me a clue as to what might be the cause?
  12. I think I was referring to the electrically clever nature of it. Obviously too clever for me to implement (I hear you, I think it's (functionally) daft too)
  13. Pernambuco French frog double bass bow. Nickel Silver mounted, fresh new white hair, Lovely balance and feel in the hand. Ideal for theatre, shows, orchestral and particular great value for students or persons at the beginning of their career or music college. 14. It was never clever. You have some tonal variation with the humbucker through positions 1 - 7. 8 - 10 is your single coil, with little variation. Dan Armstrong used the same method on his London guitar/basses around 1972, he quickly saw the folly in it so added another pot, 1 did the coil to ground and the other was the tone pot. I always snipped the red wires on mine, gave the humbuckers a slight boost plus you have more control over tone.
  15. As I’d rather not take the hit of pxing I’d consider a Dingwall SP-1 five string, or a GR Bass combo or small cab in a trade plus cash, if anyone would like to swap?
  16. I owned this bass for a while and the build quality is exceptional. Glwts
  17. Bought new, kept it in pedalboard since forever. Actually I’m not even removing it until it sells don’t have the original box though (I moved between places since buying). It has 3M Dual Lock Velcro underneath, and naturally is in full working order. Wasn’t stomped much - I was usually engaging it through paired DMC Micro. And on rare occasions it was - it has the button cap! Highly recommended. I can post through Royal Mail Tracking24 for 5 quid or we can arrange local pickup in London

  18. It's a 14 year old thread but here's where it started: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/darkglass-pedals-are-going-to-be-made-in-the-usa-now.892646/ The relationship didn't pan out - don't know the specifics - but these Built in the USA units are Spencers redesigns. Anyway - great pedal (mine is still on my board). GLWTS!
  19. The very last pub gig we did with our Renaissance-rock band was 18 months ago - as well as the usual early stuff we had a few of 20th century covers on the set list - Moonlight Shadow, Lightning Tree, All is Found, Meet Me on the Corner, etc. Once we'd played those the audience were asking for more songs that they knew. So we stopped taking any pub bookings as I'm not doing it as a job and I want to play music I'm interested in. We get fewer bookings, but they've been awesome - historic buildings, medieval fairs, etc.

  25. I once played a charity gig for extensions to a local church. It was for a dinner and dance at a local 5 star hotel. We went in for £1600 and got 'knocked down' to about £400 after the organiser laying it on thick. We found out tickets for the evening were £100 each. There was an auction of promises after the meal - it went on and on and on. We had been there at 5 to set up. The Auction made £20,000. We finally went on at 11:30, played for half an hour! That was about £60 each for 2 hours travel, 2 hours set up and pack down, 6 and a half hours sitting around and 30mins of playing. After that we were very careful to do our research for all gigs.
