That's The Way I Like It - KC & The Sunshine Band
-
There's always time for other bands later on mate, you're going through some far more important stuff at the moment and you need to give yourself the space and capacity to deal with that stuff from a full hand so to speak. Playing bass should always reduce stress, not add to it. Band or no band, you will of course need to ensure there's a bass within your reach at all times however. Good luck mate 👍

Ramirez started following Mic for live and quick recording?
-
I've been playing and recording my double bass much more often lately, and would like a mic to accompany the Krivo magnetic pickup I have installed. There are two reasons for this really: 1. The Krivo works well, but doesn't sound particularly like a double bass. It would be nice to have a mic for the quieter gigs. I don't use an amp, and I'm usually always on IEMs when I play. Resistance to feedback isn't paramount, but it would be nice to have something that could be used alongside a quiet drum kit. 2. I work at a studio with a well-stocked microphone cupboard so the recording options are well covered, but sometimes it's useful to do a quick take on the DB in the control room when the band are in the live room. I'd like something quick and easy that sounds good enough to be a 'keeper' under the right circumstances. From what I can see, the main options are: *DPA 4099 - We have a couple of these at the studio and they're very useful. I've used it a few times on the DB and it pretty much does what I need. I don't want to constantly borrow the studio mics though so I'm looking to purchase something myself. It's also useful for other instruments which would give added value to me. *Neumann MCM 114 - Interesting and fairly recent addition to the Neumann line-up. Seems to be competing head-to-head with the DPA. *Remic D5400/D5400LB/D540 - I've heard a lot of good reports about these, but they seem quite hard to find in the UK right now. My plan is to hire the Neumann and a Remic and test them alongside the DPA we have, but would like to hear opinions/other options. Thanks Aled

I have a Pau Ferro fretless but it's never had rounds on it , so I'm not much use there

I think I could fix one if I got the chance, I do have a background in electronics and I’d love to have a go and bringing one back from the dead so let me know if you ever find one.

RhythmJunky started following Bass to travel with (on Ryanair)...
-
I've been going through all same concerns, but I want to fly with a keyb0&rd. I've spoken to Ryan Air customer service ( yes, there are people who have that as a job title 😆), and they recommended buying a seat which is probably what I'll do when I travel next year. Don't forget you'll need to pay for assigned seating for both of you, and you'll need to carry it through the airport. Not such a big deal for a bass, but it is for a 15kg keyboard.

Looks great! And you’re never getting your Mk3 one back, sorry, I love it too much!! On the plus side a few people have tried my amp out at gigs and they love it, so at least it’s being used to spread the GK joy around. I use mine with a modern GK CX210 and it sounds glorious. I used to wonder why you owned so many but I am constantly on the hunt for another GK, but I’d actually want a 700rb just to have a bit more power available - not been short of it to be honest but I’d like to try one and it’s always good to have spares!!

Do you think of yourself as a musical 'artist'?
Bassassin replied to SumOne's topic in General Discussion
Yes I do. It's not something I feel there's any ambiguity about - I play musical instruments to create music that would not exist if I had not created it. It's not for me to judge whether or not the music I make has any 'artistic value' - but I like it; since I first started dabbling in composition many thousands of years ago, I've always been motivated to try & make music I'd want to buy or go & see if I heard it. I didn't start out with any ambitions to be a composer/songwriter - I just wanted to play in a band because I loved music, and wanted to make the sort of noise my favourite bassists made! I doubt I'd still be playing at all if I'd never got beyond just playing other bassists' lines, though. -

What's your set up - Rusty Box into a Sansamp or straight into an amp? Which Sansamp do you use?

Ok, I've not posted in this thread for a while, but today I picked up my first 400RB MK4. It's in good nick, working fine, and sounds very nice. It doesn't sound exactly the same as the earlier MK1 and MK2, but it has it's own thing going on and I do like it. The settings on the amps in the pic are the ones which most make the amps sound like each other. Notice the lower setting on the Boost pot, as the MK4 seems to have lot more boost on tap, and also slightly more Treble and High Mid is required to make it sound like a MK2. The Mk4 also has a more pronounced bottom end, like it's extended in the lower frequency range vs the MK1 and MK2. I do perhaps regret selling my MK3 to @Minininjarob, because if I hadn't I would now have the full set!

Yeah - do you know, everything will work out as it’s meant to. starting to realise we have zero control over much.

Sorry to hear the above, Andy. Never rains but it pours.
