  1. Past hour
  2. Just wondering how the tension of these compares to other strings? Are they similar or lower tension than Spirocore Weichs? Not tried these strings before
  3. Valentine's day update! Dusty Springfield - The Look of Love | Douggie Reece Kem - Love Calls | Fred "Rodriguez" Robinson The O'Jays - Forever Mine | John Williams Scorpions - Still Loving You | Francis Buchholz
  4. I’m about a two hour drive from Chester so I’ll check in with the boss and see when I could head over. Any days that work best for you?
  5. I’ll have to check those out, didn’t know they did a Para Driver clone as well.
  6. TC Spark Booster pedal Excellent condition Boxed price includes U.K. shipping
  7. Absolutely fantastic amps. Wanted one for years after playing through one at a multi band line up gig years ago, but they always came up at the wrong time. When I did finally get my hands on one, it was even better than I remembered. Glwts
  8. I’ll see your BDI21 and raise you the ADI21. It’s behringer’s Paradriver clone and it’s brilliant. I also picked up a DHA VT1 dual custom in need of some TLC from the ‘bay for £50 that eclipses everything. Took me about 6 months of careful circuit tracing and building an active eq circuit for it but it’s easily my best £50 purchase.
  9. This is based on a message I sent to @JohnDaBass. My first outing at Open Mic night . I used a single Sub with two tops for an open mic on thr 12th Feb. I took one sub, it sounded good. I hade the sub set to 125Hz and in hindsight should have used 80Hz. I also had the HPF on 90 Hz on the Wharfedale’s and should have let the sub’s crossover take care of that. Over all the sound was good I did not want it Bass heavy but in the event had to boost a bit around 100-120Hz. In My band currently have no gigs until May at the moment so next outing is March Open Mic on March 12th. I will probably try feeding the sub(s) from an aux feed then. It was frustrating not to be able to just go and turn the sub up at times. Using Aux Fed subs means I can use the PEQ on each output to suite both subs and tops, rather than relying on what different manufacturers choose for crossover/ LPF/HPF frequencies. In a band setting, I would not be out front so the Open mic is great for learning what the gear can do. I did put the Kala UBass through it and it sounded nice, although I don’t expect bass will go though it that much at Open Mic. One of the performers had a Fender Acoustasonic guitar and it sounded great through the system. In reality I did. It really need the Sub, there was plenty of bass coming out of the Typhon 8 AXFs. However there may well be a couple of keyboards coming next month so will take one or both. On Thursday, I could have made do with just the Typhon 8s. There quoted response +/- 3dB is 65Hz to 20 KHz, enough to be used as a bass cab in all but Dub.
  10. Much the same for me but they regularly don't deliver on the date they email me let alone the time. Its ok if its my regular postie that delivers the parcel but when its Parcelforce van delivery its a bit vague but usually gets here the following day. Their tracking system leaves a lot to be desired tho. I like the tracking system that one courier uses where it shows me a map and where their van is and how many drops before mine altho that's been wrong too but at least i know the van is in the area. Dave
  11. Sure i heard this or something very like it in the late 60's / early 70's psychedelic / jazz fusion era. Nothing new here for me but have to admit i do like it. I guess for a generation it was different from the usual rubbish in the charts at the time. Dave
  12. Ashdown ABM 115 300w, speakon or jack x2 connection, and has served me well but no longer needed. Comes with a hotcovers protective cover.
  13. They always do… plus, I like the sound of my cab. The mix is 50/50.
  14. For me: Fender 2 MMan 0 ! 😃 Very well played, only one thing: a bit exagerate middle frequency on Elite slap: suppose its strings prbl; but i don't like MM sound: too personal (when Mr Fender created it...wasn't like this). Bravo !!
  15. Interesting that the sound team have put a mic on your cab. I guess it’s to-be-sure, to-be-sure? In all the years that I did live sound I never mic’d a bass cab, always DI.
  16. Behringer BDI21, a great pedal, not just for the money, sounds great, ideal backup to have in the bag for those just in case moments.
  17. Wax candles work well on stiff zips too.
  18. Did it not come out roughly at the end of Covid that Ernie Ball was keeping the price of instruments in the US low by price gouging everyone else? I mean, fair enough, if you want a new one go for it, but they're almost double what they were pre covid. I would imagine second hand would be best. However, if you want a better one. About 10 years ago I bought some pickups from Status. The shipping was £20. Imagine my annoyance at the fact they sent them royal mail for 2 quid. Maybe the screws are more cheeky as they cost a lot less.
  19. The irony for amplifiers is these numbers matter a lot less now that power is cheap and light. Just makes it even more confusing pairing with appropriate speakers. Having said that, subjectively these micro amps don't quite seem to match up to older class AB amps with nominally similar ratings. Whether that's because their power supplies can't sustain the demand for as long under load, or the older amps have more forgiving distortion characteristics at higher loads, or it's all in my head, I don't know enough to say (it's not all in my head though it's really reeeeeal :p). BUT, with my £150-when-new Bugera Veyron it's all immaterial. Weighs not much, fits comfortably into a laptop bag. Claims 2000 fictional watts, supposedly measures a hair under 800 watts, in reality it doesn't matter if that's not ultimately as loud as 'old watts'. I drive 2x 250w RMS 10" drivers and it's always enough. Played the Fleece in Bristol a few nights ago, it filled the stage easily and it sounds great, and the subs/PA take over for the venue anyway as is required in a place that size whatever you put on stage.
  20. OK, it's an aquarium hood, but I've not long cut all the pieces out of 8mm ply. Got fed up with the slowness with the saw dragging and remembered the trick my dad taught me when I was a pre-pubescent teenager. I rubbed candle wax on the saw. I roughly tripled the rate of progress. Kicked myself for not bothering earlier, 'it's only thin ply'. A waxed rip saw is faster than a jigsaw and not too far off a circular saw - and you can see what you are doing well enough to follow a straight line.
  21. … my fretted board, I thought the Fliptop would knock the Grizzly off, but it knocked off a HP/LP filter instead as I have a Sfx Microthumpinator on the utility end board anyhow! Now I have a clean and three levels of grit should I need to ‘ramp it up’ a bit at church 🤣 … I’ve currently got a Novation BB2 going into the second channel of the Red Pander 3 way mixer. I’ll shortly be putting together a board that has a tap tempo tremolo on it, should be great for that! 3rd channel will be for a fretless at some point also.
  22. Today
  23. Could also be if you have a MIDI channel open in your DAW.
  24. This week these two Master Effects pedals arrived from Canada - the Transmission, which mimics the EQ of Hooky's early Yamaha basses, and the Golden Ratio chorus, which is based on the original 70s EHX Clone Theory circuit. The latter is a little bit noisier than I would ideally wish but Tim (Mr Master Effects) said its inherent to the original circuit and it certainly sounds authentic.

  25. Mine - TC Electronic Spark Booster. Full size. (Acutally it was free because I got an Amazon voucher for Christmas!)
  26. My Peavey Dynabass 5 is lovely, but suffers from neck dive. I’d like to put some lightweight tuners on it, but also don’t want to spend more than necessary. Tuners are 4+1 and black. I could probably get away with only replacing the 4. Any thoughts?
