  4. Maybe not. But I was just pointing out that by 1988/89 house music and pop songs that were heavily influenced by it were anything but niche. Personally I'd love to see an 80s band doing S'Express, Yazz or Soul II Soul. There appears to be an assumption that 80s music is mostly synth-based pop from the first half of the decade, whereas the reality is, as I hinted in my first post, that there's a lot more to the decade. As someone who plays in an unashamedly 80s influenced originals bands, I'd be interested to know what's in the typical 80s covers band's set list.

  9. Genuinely think this should be in a player’s tonal chain. Took out on a Jazz/Funk gig and it was smooth as butter!! Almost has me changing my mind…..just too much a luxury with the other stuff that I own and use!!

Does an octave below and/or above. Also has an independent boost effect. Blurb here: Octavius tri-tone generator has 4 controls LO OCT, HIGH OCT, MASTER MIX and BOOST. LO OCT knob lets you set the volume of the lower octave signal produced by the pedal. HIGH OCT knob controls the volume of the higher octave signal produced by the pedal. The balance between the levels of these 2 knobs is what creates your particular octave-divided sound. Experiment with your mix, and you’ll be amazed at the variety of effects you’ll get. MASTER MIX knob lets you set the overall volume of your low and high octaves compared to your direct signal. Use the BOOST knob to control the output of your octave-divided sound. The boost function lets you dial in a solo level, whether the overdrive circuit is activated or not.

  14. There are lots of grey areas here but perhaps you've hit something key in talking about how you might "relate to" a song. All the ones you mention here are generally positive, feelgood songs and most people would be able to lose themselves in the moment (even if they were listening to the lyrics, which is perhaps questionable in itself) by having similar feelings of community, hope, nostalgia or whatever without having driven on the same road/lived in the same submersible/whatever. But if the song is born of something more negative (eg of racism, the politics of a certain area/era, past personal abuse etc) I think you have to be more careful in what feelings you allow yourself to indulge: you risk being anything from insensitive or crass all the way through to seeming to trivialize the original intent of the song. For me, I find dentists gurning through Chicago blues on PRS guitars a bit cringeworthy but hardly a hate crime, ditto John Power singing Redemption Song, albeit perhaps quite a bit more cringey. At the other end of the scale I think I would very much struggle listening to a privileged white youngster sing Strange Fruit or a current British political protestor (of whatever persuasion) sing Ohio. Which is not to say that I think you can only sing happy songs... but I think you can usually tell the difference between an attempt to share in some sort of cross-cultural community and a crass/cynical/tone-deaf attempt to channel someone else's experience.

  22. That's really quite restrained & conservative for a Wandre. I've never found any of their designs particularly appealing but live in hope that, wonky-looking & tacky as they are, one day one will turn up at the car boot for a tenner.

  27. Well, here goes... Just a loop recorded on to my phone, so quality is poor. Neck, middle, then bridge. It's wearing Thomastik rounds at the moment, so the tone is not as smooth as with the flats... Friday at 7-31 pm.m4a
