Welcome Reiver.

Was that the outboard preamp Chris? Buying an outboard Sadowsky preamp would makes good sense for a lot of reasons. That bit of kit makes most basses sound better, cheap and not so cheap, so it may well stay useful if someone upgrades to a more expensive instrument. Even if the Sadowsky preamp doesn't make your cheaper bass sound good enough to satisfy, you can keep it for the next bass. Sooner or later it will be useful and money well-spent.

Exploring the world of bass playing, in the distant past played drums and a little rhythm guitar. Currently researching different basses and will check out information on this site. Be prepared for some daft questions. Thanks for having me. Reiver

Wow these are amazing photos! Great work! The photo of Neil checking his watch to see how many more songs we could play before getting kicked out for the disco made me laugh!

My wife says she's not lending me these again though! So I would have to invest in a proper acrilic heater!

Ear Protection - What's really decent & off the shelf?
cdog replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
I agree Chris, but I do get great protection from the foamies, it's just that the top end gets cut much more than on fancy plugs so I am sacrificing on my experience of the quality of the sound rather than protection for my ears. Foamies will cut up to 38db which is more than any of the fancy ones could last time I checked. -

I know what wood sounds like when I bang my head on a door frame. I wouldn't call it musical.

My Lockdown Project......... Although I love the white finish, I have been thinking of painting it "a la Guy Berryman" style just for a change!

Why am I struggling to make bass sound good through PA?
Al Krow replied to mrtcat's topic in PA set up and use
Hi Bill, excuse my ignorance but could you elaborate on what you mean by "rising mid range" for me please? -
Not possible to say. It will vary from instrument to instrument (even the same make/model). No two are exactly alike. You'll just have to experiment to see what works for your instrument and gear. I would say there is unlikely to be a specific frequency, but a spread of them. The way they interact is important.

She's extremely good, but there are plenty of red hot young players around.

Not even all Aria Pro IIs were very good to play, but Maya, Marchis, Greco et al., no thanks. Zerosette (07) has probably been the most non playable instrument I have tried.

Just got this used today from Bass Direct and it's put a massive smile on my face. Not a Fender or Sire (which to me is a plus)
