  2. Gorgeous bass tone on this new Sven Wunder disc from around 35s. There must be more going on here than just plectrum & flats?
  3. A bit late, but I thought this might be useful if anyone else is in a similar position - the Dunlop ECB004 worked a treat. Noiseless.
  4. It depends what you are doing and what your band is about. Are you playing covers of tracks where the performance is more important than the song? If I'm playing something like Hot For Teacher, I want the guitarist for nail EVH's guitar part note for note. Same thing for a Rush tribute, the performance is key, so play it exactly like the record or don't bother. It's a bit different covering many other types of bands, where the bass player(s) might have developed / changed the parts over the years, or never played the same thing twice. Then you have to get the feel and spirit of the original, rather than just play the part as the record. Of course, it also depends whether you are playing the song, or covering the a particular version of the song. Remember that often keeping it simple is the best option and not settling for less at all. The thing is that you should be playing a simple part by choice, not because you can't play anything different!
  5. Thanks Mark, certainly is a whole lot of amp for the money. Flexible eq and enough power for most of the gigs anyone's likely to play.
  6. Having a bit of a streamline of my pedalboard and looking to let these beauties find a new home. Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver DI You know the deal, industry standard preamp/DI functionality - this one has 3 switchable channels allowing you to vary your tone/drive as required. A great pedal that's been a key part of my board but no longer required due to my GK 700RB amp. Excellent condition comes with the box. Looking for £160 posted MXR M85 Bass Distortion A flexible bass distortion based on the famous RAT circuit this one has both the original RAT and Turbo RAT circuits switchable via a push button. Sounds great and in excellent condition apart from a few small chips in the paint. Looking for £90 posted Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor Really versatile workhorse compressor that gets great reviews on sites like Ovnilabs - https://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/vicegrip.shtml. A few battle scars to the paintwork but apart from that it's in great nick. Looking for £110 posted EHX Bass Clone Chorus Bought this last year looking for a Peter Hook kind of sound as it's a modern version of the original EHX Clone Theory. Hardly ever used, comes with the box. SOLD Behringer BDI21 Bass Driver DI Cheap clone of the famous Sansamp Bass Driver DI, does a fantastic job considering the price differences. Looking for £15 posted
  7. Have some unused valves knocking around that aren't going to get used. They were purchased a while back as spares for the Fender Tweed Deluxe kit I built. I have tested them this morning in my amp and all are working fine with no noises of any kind. The EHX preamp valves are 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 12AY7 - one has the original box the other one doesn't for some reason, but both are unused and have been sat in my drawer. The 12AX7 is now sold Looking for £12 posted for the 12AY7 please. The rectifier valves are 2 x NOS Brimar 5Y3GT and 1 x NOS Pinnacle 5Z4GT - The Pinnacle can be used as drop in replacements for a 5Y3GT. I bought all of these as New Old Stock and they come with the original boxes but do have signs of wear on the cardboard. The Brimar valves have a corrugated cardboard and tissue paper protective cover that come with age appropriate smell 😂 Looking for £15 each posted please. Happy to arrange local meet-up with price adjustment if needed.
  8. No, it was mine you played at the SE Bash.
  9. Friday night's open mic featured an appearance by the 14-y-o guitarist's mother to sing November Rain. She got a bit panicked and it all got somewhat rearranged on the fly but Phoebe managed to get her soloes in. And it was the last night that the 12-y-o singer was a 12-y-o singer as her birthday was the day after. Another guy put in an appearance - the first time Mrs Zero and I had seen him since well before lockdown. He used to run an open mic night in Coventry which is where I first met the keyboardist-singer that I'm now playing bass for. He had a series of mini-strokes but has recovered and is trying to get out more.
  10. I write the dots out. I learn it.
  11. Sadly I didn't get to play the actua service as this Lurgi is getting the better of me. Especially gutted - this is a bit of what I missed: 💃 https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxlefBzSV-1qGvE5SpIrUt91kmbbISTSwC?si=Fe32n0kqr1c6uDXe
  12. Hi everyone , I have this lovely little combo, I dont know much about it . you can come and test it its good as a practice combo but think you can line out to a p.A. with it. Offers are welcome Not Sure of Value so started on what i paid for it . Pick up from essex , SS7 kindest regards Ziggy
  13. If you get a chance to try a double bass with a lower action, higher tension steel string setup you might find that easier to adjust to. I'm used to playing double bass with Spirocores at a medium/low height, and it takes me a while to get much out it if someone hands me their low-tension slap setup bass.

  15. As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £12.90 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears these seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

  17. Are there 34 and 35 versions of it? It only said 2016 Ian Hill signature bass, so I assume it is the 34 one.
  18. Oh thank god, I thought it was just me.
  19. Agreed! no updates, and no trade offers at the moment sadly but I’ve had lots of messages on FB and eBay asking me to split it up and sell various bits…. I could but… Maybe I’ll just keep it!
  20. Kinda reminds me of discussions I've had with bandmates and deps around playing a part that fits the song vs playing the bass line / guitar riff / drum pattern of the song. Must admit I really appreciate working with drummers who include the fills and nuances of particular songs we cover vs simply bashing out a rhythm and tempo that fits the song. Maybe that's equivalent to us just playing the root notes? Sure it can be "fun" to keep things simple, and horses for courses, if that is all we want to be doing with our music - getting out and gigging can be massively fulfilling in itself! But equally if we don't have to settle for less, then why not aim to be the best musicians we can? And I'm saying that knowing I've got a very long way to go...

  22. Thanks again for all the replies. It was an auction house through their online portal. They have T&Cs that cover forgeries. If the buyer can prove it's a forgery then they'll refund so I'm not too concerned on that front. It was described as 1975 Fender Precision with no real caveats apart from condition. It came from the estate of a working musician who'd passed away, so I don't think there's anything devious going on - just the potential that the family didn't really know. Based on the feedback, it seems likely to be genuine, thanks @MrFingers especially. Definitely nothing conclusive to say otherwise so I have to pick it up to investigate further. I'd like it to be a player. I have an early 80s P bass that I love but I played a 78 at a studio recently and it was very nice. I'd probably try to restore it a little with original parts if I can. Expect a future question on tackling the bridge situation! How much did I pay? .... £1150 including fees. If it's mostly genuine I think that's a good price. It doesn't seem uncommon for these to be around £3K but Rich Tone Music has one on eBay just now (a 76) for £2K. I'll post some updates once I've collected it.
  23. Was it 34” or 35”?
  24. I agree with that approach if you are trying to replicate a Jamerson, Billy Sheehan or Geddy Lee part. For something like the Black Crowes (who I love BTW), I would be aiming to get the feel right, rather than playing it note for note.
  25. Fun morning with my buddies half remembering songs, having a chat and a laugh, and making noise. To be fair we haven’t had a get together since last November, this being a bit of fun blasting through our old new wave songs from 40+ years ago. Drummer was using a newer kit that he normally uses as a cut down set so had a chance to use the whole thing. Guitarist had a new big birthday guitar and refined pedalboard. I stuck with the FrankenJazz, usual pedalboard, and the studio’s Hartke rig. All sounded pretty good where I was stood and generally pretty tight - until it didn’t 🙄 Some songs fell apart when one or other of us forgot where we were in it, but much fun and hilarity all round which is what we’re after. Not really looking to gig, just make some different noise to what we all usually do in other bands. We were the only band in this morning and the youngster that let us in and hung around to lock up after made some nice comments (probably just humouring the old farts! 🤣)
