  1. Past hour
  2. I have got to keep my neb out of Facebook Marketplace. But it was too sparkly, and only 2 and a half hours away in the car. May I present this Burny (Fernandes) LSB-80 I just bought, simply because it was there, and I fancied it. I have plans for this bass. It's had a life, and it's been modded already (active stuff it would have originally come with is long gone, for example), so I'm going to be making some changes. It's not bad as is, but I think I can make it more to my liking. It plays really well (previous owner did a banging job of setting it up, recrowning frets etc) and it seems solidly made. Developments to come, stay tuned...
  3. Love that band jacket. Daryl
  4. Thanks Dave, Next week we have our first outside gig for the year. It's more of a festival crowd. I'm hoping we redeem ourselves. Daryl
  5. Seen him a few times but not for over 20 years so fingers crossed. The E Street Band are one of the best bands I’ve ever witnessed, and I’m a massive Steve Van Zandt fan too so expecting a good show. The superb Eddie Manion on baritone sax as well, another favourite from The Asbury Jukes.
  6. This is the board I tend to use for rehearsals.
  7. It'd be interesting to hear how you get on with overdriving the SVT, the post I read was that the model didn't distort like the real amp and just clipped.
  8. Hello - Im based in Chicago - though I spend a lot of time in the UK - and have decided to join this forum. I’m newly learning bass, wanting to make sure I learned enough to make my father proud while I could. He passed away on Wednesday, and was a legend bassist. (Corky Holbrook; bassist for Billy Ray Cyrus) With some of my parting words to him on Tuesday, I told him I’d track down his missing bass, his prized possession that was stolen from his studio in 2014. Now I know this is a UK based site, and his studio was in Kentucky (USA) but I’ll put the details of it here, and perhaps someone might know how to track down missing things. Very nice to meet you all. Summer —- Missing Bass Guitar: Custom Fender (One of a Kind) Model: Custom-built Fender bass Neck: Fender Jazz Bass neck Body: Fender Precision Bass body Electronics/Hardware: Identical to a 1962 Fender model Finish: Tobacco Sunburst (orange into brown into black at the edges) Serial Number: V061100 Unique Traits: Factory-built hybrid of Jazz and Precision components Vintage tone and look, made specifically for Corky by Fender Not a “Frankenstein” or modified bass — this was purpose-built by Fender Last Seen: Location: Local recording studio (specific name not given) Circumstance: Believed to have been stolen from its vintage-style case, sometime after being left at the studio Value: Priceless — custom-built for a musician during his time with Billy Ray Cyrus' band, Sly Dog Reward: $1,000 reward for safe return No questions asked
  9. Before Andrew started making basses under the name Anaconda he made other basses like this amazing Ostinato Jazz bass that I bought from the Bass Gallery in 2010. Emg pickups. Aguilar OBP2, Alder body Olivewood top. It was a fantastic instrument.
  10. Jokes aside, this is my current setup
  11. Club Tropicana - Wham!
  12. The SVT amp model is clean, but with all the SVT's tonal DNA. The remedy is to put one of the overdrive blocks in front of the amp block and just hotten things up a bit. There is also a gain stage block, but I haven't tried that to drive the SVT block. Anyway, it sounds way better than all SVT modeling devices I've tried so far. I also downloaded and installed the free IR's from ShiftLine; their B15 cab simulation is my favourite so far. It gives that creamy tone I associate to old school cabs. I used it on the Quad Cortex and HX Stomp too. I sold them; one was too complicated for a guy like me, the other was a bit outdated and felt like a modeler. This one feels and sounds like the real deal. So far I have made six presets (with scenes) based on the Noble preamp, the SVT and Gallien Krueger modelings. The poly octaver and envelope sound very good; all different octavers track very well. Chorus and flanger too. Better than on the other modelers I've used. Also I try to tweak all presets to unity level. I set a bus compressor at the end of the dynamic blocks, only leaving the delay/reverb and speaker sim's after.
  13. I think it may boil down to personal comfort and how much you'll pay to achieve it.The Anaconda will have a flatter radius, slightly longer scale and if we're talking 5 strings will have wider 19mm string spacing over Sires. That alone on paper at least puts them over Sires (I've had a few) for me. I tried a 6 string Ultra J Essence in Wunjos once and even though I have no use for the high c string I thought it was phenomenal.
  14. Yet another example, if one were needed, of clothes that look extremely cool on someone, but when I try it I just look like a tw*t.........☹️☹️
  15. Today
  16. I have a Tone City Matcha Cream, which is a green muffin type mini pedal. I don’t use it a lot, but it definitely has the fatness, though I have to keep the tone control dialed back or I lose low end.I’m not a fuzz connoisseur, but another I’m considering is the EHX Lizard King.
  17. It’d be good to hear one in a side by side comparison to the more common super jazz favourites like Sadowsky (US), Overwater or Fender Ultra. I’ve had two Sire’s and never had any issues with setup, electronics or hardware but understand I might have been lucky.
  18. A bit of a departure for me using a Rockboard, I found it much harder than my usual Pedaltrain builds (staggered cut outs really don’t help with uniform dual lock placement!)
  19. Welcome to the Jungle — Guns n Roses
  20. I bought a three set pack of 'd'addario' acoustic guitar strings from ebay a while back. They all had the same code number and were obviously fake when I compare the pagaging to a real set.
  21. Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed
  22. Going under the knife in a couple of weeks for wrist decompression surgery so this won't be getting played anytime soon. I'm dropping the price to £795 as it's too nice to be hanging on the wall gathering dust. This is a very playable, comfortable and great sounding bass, grab yourself a bargain!!
  23. Dude (Looks Like a Lady) - Aerosmith
  24. Today we kicked off the UK proceedings for World Goth Day (technically this Thursday but I managed to get our event listed) with a cheeky little in store record shop gig. I played mainly mandolin with some mandocello and a bit of a guitar (not bad for an old bassist). We had a pretty respectable crowd and I enjoyed the set. We even had a brief write up locally Deadlight Dance Devizine
  25. Thanks Sean, hopefully a good deal for someone, as it’s a beautiful example too. Yamaha are really consistent, but this lighter than my last one and is beautifully resonant and responsive to play.
  26. Relived... I thought the thread was gonna be about that bit on ya healing up after a bit of a YKK encounter...
  27. Another easy one in the main but there is a stunning little solo in the middle that requires a huge amount of sensitivity and concentration - don't be deceived by what you think you are hearing, this is tricky stuff. This is a Faberge egg of a performance from Steve Swallow on the 1987 Carla Bley album 'Septet'. The tune is called 'Lawns'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/lawns-carla-bley-septet/
